Chapter Four

Anna.

"Fuck! I'm almost there!" I shouted desperately at the phone to Clary before ending the call to continue running down the street to school.

After the whole episode with the..you know.., that embarrassing moment at home before I fainted. Yeah that. After I woke up I hurriedly went to the bathroom to change and started running to school. It was past eight already and though I couldn't do the project anymore, I still wanted to be in time for Mrs Williams period, and it was the first one.

"Sorry!". I bluttered to a random stranger I had hit and continued running.

Now people were outside, opening shops, walking dogs and even the sun was smiling down at me. I had vowed to never leave home so early again to avoid meeting people like Drew, and to never go home so late to avoid meeting people like Noah. This past night had been like a movie and in the last 12 hours I had brought a random stranger to my home and treated his wound. I had also met the leader of the most dangerous gangs here.

I still hadn't gotten over the whole early morning episode but at least I wasn't shivering anymore. So I tried to bury it at the back of my mind. And Noah's face too.

I didn't have time for that. The National Robotics competition was next month!

I got to the school gate and stopped, resting my palm on my knees and taking a deep breath. I looked up after catching my breath to see the signboard of our school.

West High School

A learning facility of disciplined students.

Yeah right!

Most parents and teachers of other schools always thought our school was the best in the town, and it was all a lie, a facade to deceive parents to bring their kids, or transfer them here.

The kids here were horrible and it was a divided school just like the ones in teen movies. Honestly, while all high schools weren't like the ones in movies, mine was!

I walked into the school compound immediately seeing the guys in the football club. While I wasn't the biggest fan of sports I could admit they looked really cool in their Jerseys. They weren't empty heads like in the movies. No they were actually smart and if they didn't meet up to the school work they were kicked out the team. I've done homeworks for a few of them, definitely for cash because my aunt never paid me for working.

What was it with parents or family members not paying each other when they were working for them?

I sighed, turning away from them towards the sound of laughter. Of course, the cheerleaders.

Ok, I know how every movie portrays the cheerleaders to always hate the nerds. Yeah in my school, they just didn't care about anyone but themselves, oh except for the football guys. And while they weren't exactly mean they weren't the nicest either, they always fix make ups after each class. I mean this is school not a runway fashion house.

They laughed again with their high-pitched voices, twirling this hair and raising their already short skirts higher. I turned away quickly before they decided to discuss me today. Bunch of gossips!

As I looked away the air around me moved swiftly and I stepped back to avoid getting hit by the skateboarders. Ok this bunch were the most annoying because they just came out of nowhere!

Many times they have hit me while walking in the hallway, or on the tracks and always at the school entrance. And it's totally visible No skateboarding in the hallway! But no they did whatever they wanted oh and they moved in groups, so imagine five guys speeding in the hallway. How annoying!

"Watch it, fuckers!" A girl shouted. She was wearing pitch black all round, with dark eyeliners. And huge headphones on her head. They said she was crazy so I just tend to avoid her.

And though there wasn't any group of bad boys here like in the movies, we still had a few boys who smoked and took drugs at the back of the school. The back of the school was a no go zone.

While our school wasn't the best like I said earlier, it was still better than East High. It was the complete opposite of our school, bad guys. I'm sure members of Snake and Ladders attended there.

It wasn't any of my business, I had a chemistry class to attend.

"Anna!". Someone shouted, I looked to see Tom, he was usually hanging around Clary. He had huge glasses hanging on a huge ear. He has freckles all over his face and while he wasn't ugly he dressed terribly and Clary had a good fashion sense so it was a major turn off for him.

"Oh hey Tom" I waved, he adjusted his glasses up his nose and looked behind him.

"Clary's over there, she's been looking for you" He said before walking away towards the library.

I made my way through the sea of students and the smell of cologne, body spray, after shaving cream and other smells assaulted me as I got into the hallway. Many students were at their locker getting ready for their class.

"Where the hell have you been? I've been standing outside the Chemistry lab for about an hour and didn't see you. You said you were gonna be here early so we-"

Clary came to view putting on a black dress that fell to her knees and pink boots. Her hair was dyed pink and fell across her face. Her hazel eyes like mine were glaring holes into my head.

"I know, I know. Something came up I swear" .I interrupted, walking past her to go to my locker. She scoffed, hurrying after me. While I hastenly brought out my textbooks from my locker shoving them in my bag.

"Something came up?" Clary asked unbelievably and I grimaced. I didn't want to tell her what had happened this morning. It was a murder not some high school gossip that needed to be told. I was still scared and the last thing I needed was someone hearing it and spreading it all over school.

"Look, Clair". I started placing my hands on her shoulders. "I can't tell you right now, but I will"

"What is it you can't tell me I'm your best friend!" She said, dropping my hands from her shoulders before glaring harder at me. "We are supposed to tell each other everything. Did something happen at the clinic?". A look of worry flashed across her face before glaring back at me.

"No, honestly. You have to trust me. I'll tell you when the time is right, pinky swear". I raised my pinky finger to my best friend which she totally ignored, turning away from me.

I was about to speak when I noticed the students running towards the entrance, with eyes wide and a smile on their faces. Some girls even shoved at me a little, whispering to each other.

"Uhm...ok what's happening?" I asked

Clary shrugged before speaking. "Please don't tell me this is like those high school movies where a new hot guy comes to the school and everyone rushes to see him"

"Nah it can't be". I answered, turning back to my locker to close it.

"THERE'S A NEW HOT GUY IN OUR SCHOOL!". Someone shouted.

I spoke too soon.

Those that aren't rushing to the entrance before started shoving each other around rushing to see him.

"Come on" . Clary grabbed my arm taking us to the entrance to see the new hot guy. Not that I cared but she was already pissed at me this morning and I didn't want to annoy her more so I followed her like a lost puppy through the crowd that was already forming.

"Damn. He's hot!" A girl whispered beside me.

"Check him out! He's like a Greek god" Someone else said.

Ok people needed to chill for real.

"My ovaries are screaming!" Another girl gushed beside me.

Really?

I couldn't help but turn to her, giving her a disgusted look, so I didn't see the person in front of me and hit them causing both of us to stumble and I fell towards the small circle that had been created. Everyone fell silent.

Oops.

This was obviously a cliche. I've been set up people!

I opened my eyes to see a pair of black boots, and a black jeans trousers, I followed it to meet the eyes of the stranger.

Dark hair, green eyes. Forehead wrapped around bandages. He was wearing a jacket so I couldn't see his injured arm.

Noah Bricks stood tall in front of me and upon recognizing my face, he smirked.

Good one Anna. Good one!
