Chapter 4

Penulis: Anna
Fred’s brow pulled into a thunderous scowl, but I was already stepping into the elevator, the doors sliding shut on his guilt.

For the next week, I became a ghost, pouring every ounce of my energy into the legal severance. I ignored Fred’s frantic calls and his staged, worried texts. Meanwhile, Cynthia’s social feed was a masterclass in psychological warfare. Sunset silhouettes. Interlocked fingers. A man—his build unmistakable—carrying her through the surf. She was practically shoving the camera into Fred’s face, daring me to look.

Seven days later, I went to the Pack clinic for a routine follow-up. I rounded a corner and stopped dead.

Fred was there. His mother, the former Luna, stood beside him. And between them, looking like a cherished prize, was Cynthia.

"My proudest girl," the former Luna crooned, her face etched with smug satisfaction. "You’re already carrying the Alpha bloodline this family deserves."

I pressed my back against the cold tile of the wall, watching as Fred lifted a hand—the same hand that used to stroke my hair—to cup Cynthia’s cheek.

"You’re going to be a remarkable mother," he murmured.

The words were a physical blow. He had said that to me, in that exact, reverent tone, when I carried our first pup. The fury and the bitterness rose in my throat like bile. I turned to bolt for the elevator, but the doors slid open and Cynthia stepped out, blocking my path.

"Sister," she sneered, her voice dripping with venom. "You’re truly pathetic. You’ve seen everything, yet you’re still clinging to a bond that’s already dead. What are you waiting for?"

She lifted her chin, eyes flashing. "You swore to protect me when we were kids, remember? Are you really going to let my baby be born a nameless bastard? Fred’s own blood is growing inside me right now."

I looked her dead in the eye. "Why? Was I not good enough to you?"

"Good enough?" She let out a sharp, jagged laugh. "If you actually cared about me, you would have walked away the night you followed us to the cabin. You would have handed me the Luna title and never looked back."

My pupils contracted. She had known I was outside that night.

"Why do you get the strongest Alpha?" she hissed. "The first day you brought him home, I wanted him. I’ve been out of my mind with it ever since." She ran a hand over her still-flat stomach, a sick smile spreading across her lips. "There’s one more thing, Sister. That dead pup? I swapped your prenatal herbs for Wolfsbane. Every single day. That’s why it rotted inside you."

The world went white.

I remembered the agony of the seventh month. The Healer telling me I was too weak. The blood on the operating table. I had spent years blaming my own body for murdering my child.

It wasn't a tragedy. It was a hit.

Red flooded my vision. I lunged, my fingers locking around her throat with the strength of a true Alpha daughter.

"What the hell are you doing?!"

Fred slammed into me from the side. He wrenched my hands back so violently I heard the bone in my wrist snap. I cried out as he threw me aside, shielding Cynthia with his body.

The former Luna screamed, swinging her heavy designer bag directly into my temple. "How dare you!" she shrieked. "How dare you touch the Alpha's heir!"

I went quiet, the weight of her words settling like lead in my stomach.Because I was strong, my mate was allowed to be ridden by another woman? Because I was capable, the people I loved most had the right to poison me and butcher my child? They had mistaken my resilience for a lack of feeling, and that was the last mistake they would ever make."The fact that I’m not sending you to a cell alongside her is the only mercy you get," I said, my voice dangerously calm. "Hire the best advocate you can find. Try to get her sentence reduced. But I will ensure she is punished to the absolute limit of the law. My child did not die for nothing."The Elder Council handed down their ruling: eight years of exile for Cynthia. For the woman who murdered my unborn pup, it felt like a slap on the wrist. She lost eight years of freedom; my child never even got to open its eyes to see the sun.I walked out of the council hall, the biting wind of the North hitting my face. I pulled my coat tighter, ready

Fred dragged both hands through his hair, the weight of his collapsing world finally bowing his shoulders. He walked down to the holding block and stared at his mother through the bars. She looked hollowed out, a ghost of the formidable Luna she once was."Fred, you finally came." She clutched his arm, her fingers like talons through the iron. "It was that Beta girl's fault. I was only protecting your honor! You have to go back to Maya. You can’t sever a bond that deep. Bring her home, Fred. Make this right.""I’ll find you an advocate," Fred replied, his voice sounding like gravel. "I'll get you out." But even he knew he was lying to himself. The severance hearing opened before he could make a single phone call. In the council chamber, my representative laid the evidence out piece by piece. Each photo, each recording, drained another drop of blood from Fred’s face until he looked like a corpse. When it came to the territory division, the "Alpha" was surprisingly submissive. I was awar

Fred’s voice was like a dead weight, hollow and exhausted."Give the medallion back, Cynthia.""No!" She clung to him, her voice rising in a frantic pitch. "I haven't had mountain elk in weeks. The pup needs it. I need it!""Enough!" Fred’s eyes flared with a dangerous heat. "I have no resources left for you. Maya has frozen everything."He shoved her away—not with the gentleness of a mate, but with the frustration of a man at his breaking point. Cynthia stumbled, her midsection catching the jagged corner of the heavy stone table. She let out a piercing scream, clutching her stomach."The pup... Fred, it hurts!"Fred didn't move. He just looked at her with cold, dead eyes. "Stop performing for me. I’m empty. If you want to fall apart, do it outside my house.""You monster!" Cynthia hissed, lunging at him with her claws out. "No wonder she fought to leave you. An Alpha like you deserves to die in the dirt alone!"Fred’s hand connected with the side of her face in a sickening crack. In r

"What?" Cynthia stared at him, her voice rising to a shriek. "I’m carrying your heir, Fred! You’re seriously trying to cut me off now?""Terminate the pregnancy," Fred said, his voice devoid of emotion. "I’ll compensate you. Land, coin, whatever you want. Just name your price.""I don't want a price! I want you! I want to be your Luna!"Fred’s voice dropped into a lethal, low-frequency growl. "Cynthia. Don’t make me repeat myself."His Alpha dominance slammed into the room, heavy and suffocating. Cynthia stumbled back, trembling. She bit her lip, turning to leave, but I saw the look in her eyes—the desperate, calculating glint of a woman who knew she still had one ally left: the former Luna.In my hospital bed, I watched the high-definition surveillance footage my Rogue team had just uploaded. The photos from the South Coast were damning—every touch, every kiss, every moment of their "secret" getaway captured in agonizing detail. This was more than enough for the Elder Council. I wasn'

The voice cut through the room like a gunshot.A group of broad-shouldered Warriors filed in, flanking an old man with silver hair. He leaned on a cane, but his eyes were as sharp as a hawk’s, locked onto Fred with a predatory intensity. The sheer pressure radiating off him made the very air in the room feel thin."She has the full weight of the Dark Moon Pack behind her," the old man rumbled. "If you want to come after her, you’d better pray your bones are harder than my patience."A man in black combat gear followed close behind, sparing Fred a single, lethal glance. "You’re an outside Alpha of low standing. You have no right to even breathe the same air as her. Get out."Fred’s instincts flared; he tried to push back with his own dominance, but the moment his eyes landed on the Dark Moon emblem on the man’s chest, the color drained from his face. He couldn't even manage a whisper. He simply turned and walked out.I stared at the man in combat gear. His features were a mirror of my m

I turned my head just in time to avoid the brunt of the blow, but I didn't see the former Luna’s foot coming. She kicked me squarely in the stomach.I lost my footing and tumbled backward, my body slamming against the stairs. I rolled down the flight, the world a blur of pain until a sharp crack in my ribs signaled I’d hit bottom. Warm blood began to mask my vision, trickling from a gash on my forehead.I forced my eyes open. Fred wasn't rushing toward me. He had his palm over Cynthia’s eyes, shielding her."Don't look," he murmured, his voice thick with a tenderness that made me want to vomit. "Too much blood. It’s not good for you or the pup."The Pack Healer and a swarm of nurses rushed in, hoisting me onto a stretcher. "We need a family member to authorize emergency surgery," a nurse shouted over the chaos.I looked at the doorway. My Beta father had treated me like a ghost for years. My Alpha mate was too busy protecting his mistress's sensibilities to notice I was dying."I have
