The Ring

“Kiss me, please.”

Rufus studied her, looking for cracks in her resolve. What he saw was determination. She didn’t totally understand what she hoped to achieve, but he wasn’t getting in the way. If she was going to change or evolve, he needed to be part of that process if he expected to keep her. If they produce another offspring, he wanted to be there with her.

 “Kiss me, like you love me, Everleigh,” The words left his throat as a low command, but she must have sensed the yearning behind it. He wanted to erase the awful nightmare he saw in her mind. She stepped forward offered her mouth and he took it hard, too hard, her hunger violent and greedy.

He lifted her off her feet, wanting her to wrap her legs around him, to open to him so he could push inside her.

She didn’t.
