5- A Scent so Sweet

TWO WEEKS LATER

Anastasia slammed her back against a car, gasping for air as she took a closer look at the gunshot wound on her left arm. Shit! She needed to take out the bullet before the wound could even begin to heal but the damn silver must've already dissolved in her blood. It was a special kind of bullet that if not taken out in the next thirty minutes would only dissolve faster and weaken her werewolf core.

The sky was dark and her senses were all over the place. She needed to get out of here-

"Find her quickly!"

She went silent at that order and she knew she couldn't stay here any longer. This has been going on for two weeks now. Ever since she escaped from Noble Hunters Pack, the news had spread like wildfire.

She had been labelled as a rogue who was to be brought back dead or alive.

She saw her poster everywhere on the walls, the newspaper stand and even on the billboards. The werewolf government was serious in her case- if only they had taken Weston's investigation seriously but they insisted on blaming her.

But now it was up to her to find his killer. Why were they trying to kill her when she had finally found a stronger reason to live?

It wasn't just the government that was after her nor the Noble Hunters Pack, there was a much bigger association and those were the ones who managed to land a hit on her.

They had moved so silently and attacked so quickly. She didn't see it coming.

She ripped the end of her T-shirt, one she had stolen from a wire and she wrapped it around her wound, tying it with her teeth to stop the bleeding.

"Come out, come out wherever you are," one of them said in a sing-song voice. He was having a lot of fun and she could tell.

Bastard! She wanted to rip out his head.

"Shit! You think she got away-"

Anna pushed herself up and poked her head out, aiming the gun at one who had lowered his weapon, she fired once and watched as he fell to the ground.

Bingo!

"Over there!"

"That crazy bitch! She got Number 3!"

"That's his problem. He talked too much anyways."

She could agree with them on that one. She picked herself up, ignoring the pain and she dashed towards another car. She ducked when bullets came flying, missing her other arm and only grazing her skin.

"Give it up, ma'am!"

She crawled under the car, luckily she had lost weight and her ass wasn't what it used to be so it was easy to fit to the other side. She froze when she saw black boots slowly walking by the side of the car. Good thing she had concealed her scent a long while ago. She would've been found out.

"It's over. That first bullet is going to shut you down-"

Not if she took him down first.

She crawled with her bad arm and rushed to push herself between his legs, twisting her body that she laid on her back, she aimed the gun at his chin. "Over here, stupid-" he looked down in shock but it was already too late to react.

Bang!

He collapsed next to her and she quickly took over his weapon and checked his bullets. She ran her hands over the gun and she cursed low under her breath when she felt the two bumps on the gun.

There was no mistake.

"The Creed, huh?" They were what anyone would call a 'legal assassination organisation' and they worked for both the human and werewolf governments. It was strange and while some tried to question why this was allowed, no one knew who to ask.

The leader was unknown but they commanded a lot of power in both races.

If the Creed was on her tail, it simply meant that someone had submitted a request with a huge sum of money to see her dead and they would chase her to the ends of the Earth.

How long did she think she would last now? This just ruined her plans because no one had ever gotten away from the Creed- at least not alive-

"Ngh!" she groaned as her head began to throb and her heart squeezed for a second. The poison had already begun to spread.

This was bad. This was really bad. She needed a hospital. She couldn’t afford to die in the parking lot on a cold and dark night.

At least not now when she had something to live for.

She staggered to her feet and the gun slipped from her hand. She wasn't too concerned about that.

Ariel's last words as she died rang back in her head; live.

Her first purpose was to live. She had to be alive to avenge him.

Anastasia dragged her feet with her visions doubling and failing. She was losing consciousness fast. She grabbed her injured arm, squeezing it to stop the blood that was seeping through.

She could already see the gates. Just a little more and she would be outside. She could see the busy streets and how taxis and cars moved to and fro. She imagined hailing down a cab and the driver would be so kind as to rush her to the hospital where a kind doctor would attend to her.

Levi's smile flashed in her thoughts and she frowned, gritting her teeth and growling. Her hatred for him was uncontrollable. She wished she could live a little more to kill that bastard with her own hands.

Her feet came to a stop when she saw a figure standing before the gate with his gun pointed to her. Judging from his overall black outfit and his mask, she knew he was one of them. His chest was heaving and she could feel his killing intent all the way from where she stood slowly panting the night away.

"You killed two of my teammates," he said, sounding pained. "I'll make you pay for that."

Anna smiled weakly and she laughed a little, "You'll have to wait in line. I'm already paying the price for killing my Alpha. You'll have to," she was breathing harshly and in the moment, she let go of her scent. She'd been holding it so they wouldn't trace her but what good was it anyways when death was staring her in the face.

He raised his gun to her and she knew this was her end. "Number one, over. I have eyes on the target. Number two and three are dead. Bring the cleanup team and pass this to our client. Mission complete-"

A gun went off and a body dropped.

Anna squeezed her eyes shut, waiting for the pain of the bullet piercing her skin but nothing came.

Maybe it was a fast death. Maybe-

Something sweet caught her attention. She sniffed the air and a strange feeling rushed through her body.

What was this?

What was this sweet scent that made her wolf rise and sent chills down her back.

She opened her eyes and she staggered. There was a strange mist everywhere in the air. They looked like tiny little butterflies and her wolf had never felt so at peace.

It felt like a fog- light and transparent and the scent- she imagined hot warm vanilla cake and everything sweet.

Who did this belong to? She looked around and finally, she saw a figure slowly making his way to her. It was still dark where he was but she could make out his wide shoulders and his bulging muscles.

That wasn't the guy who aimed a gun at her. Where was that one- oh! He was lying dead on the floor.

Then that meant the one heading to her now had pulled the trigger.

She was feeling strange about this and it felt all too familiar. She felt a deep knowing for the stranger. Did he save her life or was he sent by someone else to kill her? She should make a run for it but her legs wouldn't move. She felt strangely at peace and it scared her.

He approached her with such slow steps that felt like he was taking his time to observe her. How could she feel so safe in his presence? Especially with that bulky build and his height- what was he- a six' one or six' two-

Her eyes widened when he stepped into the light.

Silver hair that covered one of his silver eyes that was wide open in shock and his Adam's apple bobbed as he gulped. He was a handsome sight that blessed her eyes. Maybe an angel would be too far-fetched and even an exaggeration because she could sense a dark, creepy aura from behind him.

It wasn't just because his black cloak moved in the wind nor the gun in his right hand, there was something else that sent a chill down her spine. Was it his scent that caused a warm tingle in her heart and a pressure buildup around her lower stomach just begging to be released-

A mate?

No.

Another mate? No… no…

She took in her last breath before her eyes rolled up and her legs gave out.
