ELIZA’S POV

The palace halls of Alexander’s pack were colder than I remembered.

I held Ryan’s hand tightly as I walked down the corridor.

He walked beside me quietly, looking round the place. It seemed like he knew something was wrong. Dylan led us ahead in silence.

His shoulders were stiff and his steps were a bit quicker than ours.

My fingers tightened around Ryan’s as my mind started to spin. I remembered the memories.

The moment I heard the council members talking about the engagement.

The betrayal I felt.

The conversation Alexander and I had.

The aching silence when I left and he didn’t come after me.

I felt sad. I felt humiliated.

I couldn’t believe for a second that Alexander would choose Isabella over me.

The heartbreak had been unbearable—shattering, even. My pride had been my shield all these months, but today, it felt paper-thin.

Don’t do this, I told myself. You came for Ryan. You came to make sure Alexander survives.

And yet my wolf stirred. I could feel her claws draggin

ELIZA’S POVI was drowning in fire and screams. The fire scorched my skin. Its heat was unbearable.I could feel the jagged spear ripping into my side. The spear was sharp, painful and it stole the breath from me.A scream tore from my throat, but it was swallowed by the chaos around me. Voices floated around me.They sounded distant. I could hear Alexander shouting, Isabella crying, and the distant howls of wolves.Pain spread through me. My breaths were heavy and shallow. The world around me blurred. All I could see was a haze of shadows and light, spinning around me.And then slowly, painfully—my eyelids fluttered.Light came into my vision. The light was too bright. It was nothing like the warm sun or the room lighting I was used to.The air was filled with the smell of antiseptic and herbs. The room was silent except for the sound of a beeping machine.I blinked, struggling to focus. My head was heavy as if it was filled with lead. And then, I saw Alexander. He sat slumped beside

THIRD PERSON’S POVThe hot desert wind swept over the dunes of the Dune Kingdom, throwing sand into the air. Eliza went back to base to meet with the other scouts. The base was filled with activity. Soldiers moved around quickly—sharpening blades, adjusting armor, checking weapons. The tension was thick. Everyone could feel something was about to happen.“Back again, Eliza?” Sergeant Kael asked. His sharp eyes studied her with clear suspicion. “You keep disappearing into the dunes, then show up like you didn’t just vanish. Where the hell do you go?”Eliza didn’t flinch. “I was looking round the perimerter,” she said smoothly. “There’s been movement out there.”He scoffed. “You always have some kind of excuse. Just know this—traitors don’t live long around here.”She gave him a nod and walked past him, even though her heart was pounding.Just a little longer, she told herself. This ends soon.*Far off, deep inside their camp, Alexander stood over a table filled with maps and notes. He

ELIZA'S POVThe desert wind bit at my face as I crouched low near the patrol camp’s outer ring. I’d only been with the Dune Kingdom’s border patrol for ten days, and already my limbs ached from the heat, the forced marches, and the drills. I was appointed as head of the patrol units.I wasn't here to be one of them. I was here for Isabella. And if pretending to be a loyal tracker meant bleeding my hands raw, earning every ounce of their trust, and walking among executioners with a frozen smile—I would do it.The Dune Kingdom doesn’t ask. It tells. That’s how I ended up walking with a patrol unit. They called it a “provisional recruitment”—which really meant, we don’t trust you yet. I could feel it in their eyes, in the way their hands stayed near their weapons. One wrong move and they’d bury me right here in the sand.So I kept my head down. Helpful, but not pushy. Curious, but not nosy. Just useful enough to keep around. If you want to survive, you learn to blend in.The patrol was t

ELIZA’S POVI stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the last piece of my disguise. I put on a paid of cargo pants and a black t shirt. A scarf was tied around my neck and lower face, concealing my identity from a distance and shielding me from the harsh wind. The forged crest of the Dune scouts—a rusted falcon’s wing—was pinned to my collar. It felt strange to look at myself and not see myself.I bent, tightening my bootstraps, trying to slow the pounding in my chest.I knew how to vanish, how to play a role, but this time the stakes were high. I had to find Isabella. One wrong move and we’re dead. In fact, we could be both dead.“You look like someone who doesn’t belong in any kingdom at all.” A voice said.I turned.Alexander. He folded his arms. I could see the worry in his expression.I straightened, lifting my scarf to my shoulders.“That’s the point.”He didn’t smile.Instead, he stepped closer and opened his palm. In it was a small silver compass.“It has light magic,” he sai

ALEXANDER’S POVDays passed in a blur. I spent most of my time with maps and other documents on the desk of my war room. The maps laid open before me had become an extension of my mind.I had creases on my fingers from writing too much and my eyes were red because I could barely sleep. My voice was hoarse from barking out orders and directives.Yet we barely made any progress. Isabella was still gone.Still out there.Still out of reach.Edmund sat beside me. He was just as tired as I was. His normally neat uniform was wrinkled.Together, we kept looking. We looked at messages, merchant routes, and border crossings. Nothing felt concrete. But we didn’t stop.We couldn’t.It was Eliza who kept me from unraveling.Every time I was too tired and every time I wanted to run mad because of the frustration, she was there. She would place her hand on my cheek to calm me down or she would kiss me and every time she did that, my wolf would calm down. And so would I.She was the calmness I neede

ALEXANDER’S POVThe castle’s corridors blurred past as I stormed down them.By the time the maids passing by saw the look on my face, they stepped aside to let me pass, bowing their heads. The only sound I could hear was the sound of my boots against the floor. It echoed in my ears. Every step was filled with anger. Eliza marched beside me.Her face was filled with concern. Her presence should have calmed be but I was too far gone. Right now, I was a volcano about to erupt. We didn’t knock.I shoved open the heavy wooden door to Edmund’s quarters with a force that rattled the hinges. He looked up from a scroll in surprise. His expression instantly tightened at the sight of me.“Alexander?” Edmund stood, smoothing his coat. “What is the meaning of this?”“What’s the meaning?” I said, moving forward. “You tell me, Edmund. Tell me why your sister’s been slowly poisoning my father under the guise of ‘treatment’!”Edmund blinked. “What are you talking about?”“You heard me. Isabella was po
