MasukHera
I keep my gaze locked on Mason's face, awaiting his answer. My heart beats wildly in my chest. For some reason, I am anxious and nervous at the same time. I don't know what I want to hear from his confessions yet something deep inside me tells me that Mason's answer will either shatter me further or... " I find you very attractive, Hera." Mason confesses, wetting his lips. My eyes follow each of his actions. " And?" I probe further, excitement coursing through my nerves. " I am interested in you as a woman, not a friend." He declares, looking straight at my face. His eyes hold a tender look. A look that I have not seen on any other man's face, not even from Carlos when we dated back in the days. I stand up abruptly, my emotions in turmoil. The chair tumbles to the ground, making a loud clanging sound. " Is something the matter, Hera?" Mason asks in a concerned voice. His hand reaches out to touch my shoulder. " Nothing. I have to leave." I announce, turning to walk away. However, Mason doesn't let me as he clasps my wrist tightly. " Why? Why are you running away? You asked me a question and I answered it. You can't face the truth now?" Mason questions, his brows furrowing. I shake my head and try to escape his hold, but it is to no avail. " I'm not running away, Mason. I just don't want to believe your words and regret it in the future. I don't have a place for regrets in my life and I won't allow myself to fall to the abyss of regrets." I cry. " Regret it? Why would you?" Mason probes, his brows furrowed. I don't know if he is playing the fool or is genuinely clueless. After what I told him about me, isn't he supposed to know why? " I have lived a life depraved of warmth and affection. I am afraid I'll cling to that little hope you are giving me and treat it as a treasure." I start, " I don't want that because in this world, nothing is permanent. What happens if that interest you have in me dwindles? I am not that strong nor am I a nonchalant person. I can't bear heartache nor can I ignore it. The best I can do is walk away at the first sign of trouble and stay away from it." " Hera," Mason breathes my name, his eyes softening. I look away. I can't bear his stare right now. " You are shutting me down to protect yourself from getting hurt?" He asks, his question nailing the truth I always try to avoid. " What else can I do? I have been hurt in the past. I also know how society views us. Why bother having fantasies that will never come true?" I exclaim. " Look at me, Hera." Mason whispers, his voice soothing to my ears. I shake my head. " Look at me," he repeats. This time, he cups my cheeks and turns my face to him. Our eyes meet. " I don't care what your family or the society thinks about you. If I did, I wouldn't have followed you all the way here." Mason's words stun me. " You followed me?" I ask with narrowed eyes. " Not just today. I have been keeping an eye on you for some time. At the airport, I bumped into you on purpose." He reveals, surprising me even further. " What?" I ask, shocked. I pull my hand from his grip, taking a step back to keep some distance. " I followed you all the way here, not because I am some psychotic stalker. I wanted to be with you, to protect you. I know that this sounds so twisted but I want you Hera. I have wanted you from the first day I saw you entering Club image back in Chicago.” I tense from his confessions. Club image. Does he know about my secret? “It was then that I decided that one day you will be mine. I won't lie to you, I am a very dominant and possessive man. I always get what I want. And you, Hera is what I want." Mason declares, his eyes burning with a fiery fire that threatens to consume me. I could feel my body heating up from his intense gaze. My heart however calms when I realize that he doesn't know anything about my relationship with club Image. The last thing I want is anyone finding out another reason to judge me. " Run all you want, little bird but I can assure you one thing, you will end up in my arms and when that happens, I'll claim you as mine." Mason asserts, giving me a long stare before he sits up from his chair. He closes the space between us, a smile on his face as he places a chaste kiss on my forehead. “ Have a goodnight sleep, Hera. I'll see you soon.” He announces before walking away. I watch as his silhouette disappears from the bar. Only when he is out of sight do I realize that I have been clenching my hands into fists. I release the deep breaths I didn't dare take in his presence as my mind replays his confessions. He has been stalking me? The thought alone should scare me but why do I feel excited? I must have lost my mind at this point. “ Another glass?” The bartender's question pulls me from my thoughts. I give him a smile, pushing my encounter with Jason to the back of my mind. “ No need. I think I have had enough drinks.” I reply politely, fishing for notes from my handbag. I pay for mine and Jason’s drink and tip the handsome man. “ Don't let your fear and past experiences keep you away from your happiness. Give yourself a chance, life is too short to live with what ifs.” The man says, giving me a smile before turning around to busy himself with his work. I don't linger around. Leaving the bar, I head to my room. Maybe when I wake up tomorrow, everything that happened will turn into a dream, nothing more or less.Hera POV Three months later.I stare at the woman reflected in the mirror and I can't help but smile. She looks so different with makeup on and happy.I am happy. It's been three months since Mason and the others rescued me.In the past three months, so much has happened. Lily finally attended her therapy sessions and regained her speech.Mason managed a clean exit from Shadow Riders and left Zero to manage the club. He has been dedicating his days to keeping Lily and I company.Chloe and Zero held a flash marriage and moved in together. Nyx and Ghost have been dating. I'd say, I never expected that Nyx would be into someone like Ghost. He is hot tempered, just like she is. I thought she would go for a soft spoken person but she proved me wrong. That's not the most funny thing. It's the fact that Ghost is no longer the hot headed man I knew, at least not at the presence of Nyx.She has tamed him and he is happy. That's the most important thing. The door to my room is pushed open and
Mason POV The anger and hatred on Connor's voice is unconcealed.I look at Zero who is taking cover several metres from me and I see the shock, mirroring my own.Not even in my wildest dreams would I have thought that Connor was a Luca. He never acted as one.Always smiling.I push myself up, ready to confront him. Zero shakes his head but I am determined.I didn't betray anyone so why should I be afraid.Slowly, I stand up and come out of my hiding. When Connor spots me, he points his gun at me.“ I can see you didn't die huh even after my careful planning. That bastard is as useless as his dick!” He growls.“ Even the heavens took pity on me. How could I die when I didn't offend anyone?” I counter, my face composed. Connor snorts.“ Who do you think you are fooling? Aren't you the one who led your team to exterminate my family after getting paid?” He accuses, eyes blaring with fury.“ Who ordered it? The mission clearly came from the headquarters. I am just someone who oversees exe
Zero POVThe door swings wider as footsteps crunch outside, and the rest of the crew piles in.Shadow arrives first, his eyes scanning the dim room like he is expecting traps. He is followed by Ghost and Tank, their faces tight with the same mix of relief and wariness I feel. The boy steps back, wide-eyed, as the small space fills with our bulk. Mason pushes himself up straighter on the mattress, wincing, his face pale under the bruises."Brother, I'm glad you are alive" Shadow says, clapping Mason on the shoulder gently. Ghost nods, hanging back but his shoulders relaxing just a fraction.“ I wouldn't die so soon buddy.” Mason replies with a wry smile. He then grunts, rubbing his temple. "Got any painkillers? Head's killing me."I dig into my jacket pocket, pulling out the small bottle from our kit. My hand shakes with relief as I pass it over.He pops two dry, swallowing with a grimace. "Thanks."We all stand there for a beat, the air heavy with unspoken questions. My chest tighte
Mason POV It feels like forever sitting in that cramped space until distant shouts echo outside. My senses heighten and my hand goes to the gun, fingers tight on the grip. Adrenaline spikes, heart racing. I creep to the door, peering through a crack. The path outside is empty with overgrown weeds swaying in the breeze. There's no sign of Leon yet.Memories flood again, our engagement party, Hera's smile that lit up the night. I was supposed to protect her, build a life with her and our daughter and now? Everything is shattered. I don't even know if she is safe and alive. Anger surges inside me and I curse inwardly.I don't know who intended to harm us but whoever he is – they'll pay. I'll make sure of it. But first, I have to get out of here and find my old lady. The door creaks and this time, Leon slips back in, breathing hard. His face is flushed from running. He is not alone though. With him is another red head boy,the same age as him. He looks at me, his face lighting up in ama
Zero POV Chloe's face twists into a snarl, her fists balling up as she steps toward Fiona, eyes blazing with fury. "You take that back, you…" She trails off as the sound of my phone ringing cuts through the tension.I glance at the screen. It's Nyx. My stomach knots, a cold wave of dread washing over me. I have been dreading her call these past two days. I knew she would eventually call me but I wasn't prepared for what to say. However, I knew one thing for sure, I wasn't going to tell her the truth if she asked about Hera and Mason.I turn to look at Fiona and give her a stern look.“ Don't move. We're not done here." My voice comes out low, edged with warning. She crosses her arms, smirking, but stays put. Good. She knows better that I don't play nice like Mason.I step away, my heart thudding as I swipe to answer. "Nyx? What's up?" I ask, pretending to sound casual even when I am a bundle of nerves inside."Zero, Lily's been asking about Mason and Hera nonstop. I have tried call
Mason POV Distant whispers pull me from the darkness. They sound soft and muffled, like voices underwater. My head throbs, like someone is using a hammer to pound my skull. I wince, forcing my eyelids open. At first, everything is blurry. I blink severally before my vision clears. Rough walls stare back at me. They are cracked and the plaster is peeling in strips. A single bulb hangs from the ceiling on a frayed wire, casting weak yellow light over a dirt floor scattered with old crates and a thin mattress where I'm lying. The air smells musty, like wet earth.Where the hell am I? That's the first thing that comes to mind.I shift, trying to sit up, but pain shoots through my spine, like a sharp knife carving through. My mind races, grasping for memories. The engagement party— Hera's face lighting up as I slipped the ring on her finger, laughter echoing in the room. Then Hera and I left the resort, driving back late at night.Then... headlights blinding us from ahead as two bl
