Chapter 17

Faith sat very stiffly in the passenger seat. Her hands were clutched tightly in her lap, knuckles turning white.

They weren't in the BMW this time. He brought a different car. She recognized the car. It was the same one practically everyone at school had. It was supposed to be all the rave--a Mesla, they called it.

Apparently, it ran on electricity instead of petrol. She wasn't sure what the difference was but everyone was really excited about it.

Devlin glanced over at her mid-drive. "Are you okay? You seem...strange."

Faith cleared her throat. "I'm fine." Her voice still came out in a squeak.

"Okay..." He said slowly, clearly not believing her.

"Are you sure?" He persisted.

"I'm good," she repeated.

Devlin turned on some music to fill the awkward silence. They rose in silence, listening to the music after that.

After some time, Devlin suddenly turned down the music. "I'm hungry? Are you?"

"What?" She asked, confused at the sudden line of conversation.
