Chapter 44

Faith saw Devlin's face approaching hers as though in slow motion. Her mind raced. He'd just declared them good friends and she'd just accented to that.

The last thing she needed to be doing now was kissing him. At the very last second, she turned her face.

At the same time, he turned his head. His lips landed on her cheek. They both laughed, breaking the charged atmosphere.

"Goodnight," she said again.

"Goodnight," he answered.

She shut the door and this time, she locked it.

Devlin leaned against the locked door and took a deep breath. He ran his hand over his face. He was being stupid and he knew it.

The best course of action for him would be to stay away from Faith. Instead, he was creating more and more excuses for them to stay together.

He'd only been planning to spend the day with her but then the "brilliant" idea for a weekend getaway had occurred to him and he couldn't get it out of his head.
