Carmen’s POV

Visiting Tyler’s parents weren’t as difficult as I had envisioned it would be, especially after Chase gave the heartwarming speech I prepared for him.

“This is so thoughtful of you, Chase Maddox,” Tyler’s mum had said.

I had been a little surprised at her reaction.

Initially, upon our arrival, she had been hostile. Her husband was sick, so he couldn’t do or say much. Thus, leaving all the interactions to her.

The plan had been for Chase to say the speech when we arrived first, but seeing her reaction, I changed the plans, and instead, presented her with the money, gifts, and medical expenses that Chase was willing to offer the family while he fought for Tyler’s release.

The woman’s switch from hostile to hospitable had taken me by surprise.

“I knew that you were a good man, but sometimes, fame and wealth can get in the way of things, especially for you youngsters,” she had added.
