On Monday, I arrived at the office earlier than usual, beating Lyra by mere seconds. She was surprised to see me and followed me into my office, asking if there was an emergency.

“Do I need a reason to show up at work at this time?” I retorted.

“Of course not,” she said but I didn’t miss the worried look that crossed her face briefly. “It’s just that you have never been here before nine before. Is everything okay?”

“Yes,” I said. “Now, go find something to do.”

She dumped her handbag on the desk and folded her arms stubbornly. “After last time, I thought …”

“That I would be depressed for the whole week?” I chuckled. “Please.”

“Okay. What’s really going on?” Her eyes dilated in confusion. “What am I missing?”

“Nothing?” I said with a careless shrug.

“Something isn’t right.” she said skeptically. “You seem… I don’t know. I wouldn’t say happy but you have this zeal. I haven’t seen you this way for a long time.”

“Maybe you should get used to the new me,” I said smugly. “She’s here to stay
