"So, that's all for today," Audriana said then began packing her books and laptop from the table.
"Okay Miss" the students got ready to leave the class too bus she stopped them.
"Your assignment is to create a portfolio website. Simple but elegant, if you know what I mean,” she further explained to them in detail what they could also add.
“When you are done with it, make sure to submit it to the school portal under the computer science department before Friday, no copying. You guys are very talented and I want each of you to express yourself in this project, okay?" she said.
"Yes, Miss Audri" the class chorused.
"See you in the next class," she said.
"And you too," they replied and she walked out of the class to her office.
Audriana is seated in her office as she goes over the code challenge her dad sends to her every week. She had done 30% of the work the previous night but she got stuck when she was going to move forward with it so, she stopped and promised to continue later.
The code seems complex to what she had handled over the years but she was determined to solve it and make her dad proud as he has always been of her.
"This should work" she muttered as she typed a few lines of code then ran it and waited for it to process.
The code ran for a few seconds and no error was displayed on the screen. It brought a smile to her lips which later turned to s grin.
"It worked" she laughed then stood to do a happy dance before sitting down again to continue to the next stage of the code.
She wrote a few more codes and when she ran it, the result was both annoying and unexpected. The screen was filled with a lot of errors mainly saying that the code could not properly run because of a mistake in her previous code.
"How? What mistake in the previous code?" she reads the code error to see where the mistake was from but there was no place it pointed to. "Oh dang! Now I have to read the codes line by line from the beginning" she banged the table and buried her face in her palms.
A groan of annoyance left her lips, she felt like she would cry but it was pointless. She would still have to re-read the code and figure out where the issue was from.
'Except you re-write the code from scratch so you can compare and contrast' she could hear her dad's voice say in her ear and she considered doing that but then if she did, it would be a lot of work for her.
The school exams were approaching and she didn't want to bombard herself with so much to do.
"I'll read it again," she said to herself then closed her laptop "But not today" she shook her head, leaned back on her chair, and closed her eyes.
Memories of how she and her dad would do an overnight code sprint ran through her mind and it made her smile at the good memories they had.
Her dad Kingsley was have first-ever tech teacher, instructor, and mentor, and most of the things she learned about cofding and how the tech industry was, she learned from her dad.
He was her guide all through her journey from when she interned in their company till now when she works at the University of her choice.
Audriana feels grateful to have him as her mentor and biggest supporter along with her mum.
While she was getting lost in her thoughts, the beeping from her phone took her out of her thinking bubble, she sat up to see that it was a message notification from her best friend Sofia.
She opened the message and saw two pictures, one contained a large-sized pizza and a bottle of soda beside it and the second was of Sofia taking a large bite of a slice with her eyes closed as if she was enjoying the food.
Audriana laughed and then typed out her reply to her before setting her phone down on the table as she thought about what to do now that she was less busy.
In a moment, another beep came from her phone, so she opened Sofia's message chat to see that she sent rounds of laughing and silly face emoji.
"You're childish" she sent a voicemail then a video call came from Sofia which she accepted immediately. "You are pretty shameless" she comments when Sofia takes a large bite of the pizza.
"At least I'm pretty" she winked then showed her the almost finished pizza "I would have left you some but you aren't me"
"There's olive, I can spot it from here" Audriana mentioned.
"See that I love you that much" she blew her a kiss then took gentle bites from the slice she was holding. "Are you being useless or useful?"
"I'm not stuffing my face but I feel useless. I have nothing to do and I am bored" she sighed then relaxed back on the chair and rested her legs on the table.
A knock came on her door and she immediately took her legs off the table, adjusted her hair, and told her friend that she would call her later then she disconnected the call.
"Come in," she said while organizing her table. The door opened and when she looked at the person that came in, it was Philip, her colleague who had been trying to get her to go on a date with him since he joined.
A sigh escaped her lips and she shook her head then relaxed on her chair. "You need something?" she asked.
He nodded then walked in front of her and sat on the chair, leaned back, and smiled directly at her.
"I am... wait" he cuts himself off then leans forward with his hand resting on the table "How are you doing? It feels like I haven't seen you in a long time," he said and she resisted the urge to roll her eyes.
"Philip, we saw this morning when I arrived at the compound, remember?" she asked and he grinned at her then leaned back.
"I know but it just feels that way," he said then looked around her office. "You do not have any code challenge to attend to?" he asked and she shook her head 'no'.
"I got stuck last night, decided to try again today and it seemed promising till I got loads or error" she sighed in annoyance.
"I don't write codes but I can't feel how frustrating that is," he said and she just shrugged. "I am not busy either" he mentioned and already she knew where this was going but before she could say anything, he beat her to it.
"Let's just eat out, as friends. It's obvious you don't want any romantic relationship with me, I get it clearly but a friendly outing will not hurt" he said, looking pained a bit when he said the part of her not wanting anything more with him.
Audriana feels bad for the man but she can't go out with him because she feels pity for him. It will not be fair to him, and hurting this nice man is something she avoids at all costs.
"Philip, I just don't want a relationship now"
"Oh no, I understand you" he chuckled "At least it's better than going out with me because you pity me, that will hurt badly" he blinked severally and let out a sigh as he looked at his hand on the table.
"Thank you for understanding" she smiled at him.
"No problem, so..." he trailed "Do you want to go out for a light lunch?" she hesitated "As friends, you can pick where you would like us to go to," he said.
Audriana thought for a while then closed her eyes as a sigh left her lips. "Well, okay" she smiled then checked the time "I need to be back here before the school closes, I'm heading home with Sofia," she said, already on her feet.
"Aye captain" he salutes then stands to his feet, he holds his hand out for her which she took as they started to head out of her office.
They went to a lounge area that Audriana frequently comes to for some alone time. She didn't let him know but she felt like coming here that's why she brought him here.
"This place is good and they have great food" he comments and she agrees with him with a nod.
"I like it here" she states then takes a sip from her coffee. "The coffee tastes weird though" she comments.
How weird?" he asked.
"Not bad that I can't take it" she shrugged.
Philip stopped eating to watch as Audriana enjoyed the food in front of her as she looked at her phone with a smile.
"A guy trying to swoon you?" he asked.
She looked up at him with her cheeks slightly red and her eyes widened a bit.
"Oh no, it... it's just Sofia trying to make my head burst with her goofiness" she replied.
Sofia was truly making her go red but because she told Sofia that she was having a friendly lunch with him and Sofia has since bombarded her with funny couple memes, some made her cheeks flush and made her laugh so hard, she thought her face would burst from so much laughter.
Philip looked at her for a while then he nodded. "Are you done eating?" he asked and cleaned his hand with the tissue paper.
Audriana looked at him, the smile vanished from her face "I didn't..."
"Oh no, I just..." he had no words to say then he looked at the time. "School closes in twenty minutes, let's go," he said to her and stood to his feet, he helped her up and dropped the bill on the table then led her out of the building.
They walked quietly to the school and when they reached, he smiled as he waved her goodbye before heading to his office floor. She felt bad for him as she watched him turn a corner then she stood in front of Sofia's office door.
She was going to knock on the door but another text came and it was from her dad.
A frown creased her forehead as she wondered what the issue might be. This would be the second time he sent her a message like this and the last time was when her mum had a health scare.
Dad... Mum, hope you're okay?" she muttered.
… Six months later … “Here you go” Sofia handed her a glass of juice and a plate of snacks, she sat on the couch beside her and rubs her really visible bump. “Thank you” she sniffed the snack then scrunch her nose as she looks at Sofia who frowned at what she did. “Did you make this with fish?” she asks. “No?” Audriana’s brow rose and she shrugged “Maybe there was some fish seasoning added but there isn’t much of that inside,” she says. “I am not eating that, I feel disgusted, no offense” Audriana dropped the plate on the table and looks at her friend who was irritated. “Well, for your information lady, my pregnant ass is offended and I am eating them because I am craving them” she took the plate and starts eating from the plate. “I am sorry ma’am, I…” Audriana sighs and placed the glass of juice on the table then turns fully to her friend who gave her full attention “I… I have been so stressed these couple of days” she said. “Oh baby, what’s going on? Still on that Daniella’s c
“Do you feel okay today?” he asked and she nods then lay back on the bed properly while he packed the plate they just finished eating with. It’s been a few days since that incident and they are slowly accepting what happened and wanted to move on. Dimitri had been shuffling between coming to spend time with her, going to work, and helping to find out what caused the blast that took his baby and nearly took his wife’s life. “I feel okay, I guess,” she said to him then moved a bit so that he can sit properly on her bed “I still feel weak though” she chuckled and he took her hand then kissed her knuckles and palm. “No one is expecting you to jump back on your feet so soon, we are still in the beginning stage of our healing so easy does it” he leaned in and pecked her. “We’ll be good, okay?” he whispered then kissed her cheek and leaned back. “Thanks for being here” “You don’t need to thank me, everything will be good” he nods and she nods too. “Do you need anything else?” “No, I am
It was evening already and he was woken by one of the nurses who told him to step out for a while so that they could check Audriana properly. He sat up on the couch and looked past the nurse to his wife who looked a bit pale and had no smile on her face as she responds to whatever she’s been asked by the doctor that was sitting on the stool beside her with a clipboard in his hand. “Is she okay?” he looked back at the nurse “She has no memory loss?” he asked and the nurse shook her head. “She will be fine sir but please step out for a while,” she tells him and he nods then stood up on his feet and looked back at his wife to see that she was already looking at him then she tore her gaze from him and back to the doctor. For that brief moment that their eyes met, he felt his knees go weak and the urge to cry for what she will come to know of made his heart heavy. He blinked several times and walked out of the room with wobbly legs. When he was outside, he saw only Aiden sitting outsid
“Yes, I am Dimitri Lorenzo” he walked closer to him. “Doctor please, how is my wife? Where is she?” he asked looking hopefully at the doctor. “Please be calm Mr. Lorenzo… my name is Chargo Arrivederci, I am the doctor in charge of Mrs. Lorenzo’s case” he introduced himself and held his hand out for a handshake. Reluctantly, Dimitri accepted it and kept asking about his wife. “According to the reports we were told when she was brought in, it was a blast that prompted her to be here, and seeing that she hadn’t been in any way close to where the blast happened, is a good thing” he explained. Dimitri’s face softened and he began to relax from what the doctor was explaining but he still needed to be sure. “So, she’s fine? She’s okay?” “Well, like I said the blast did nothing to her only that when she was brought in, she was bleeding so bad, and when we checked the cause of the bleeding sir… I am so sorry, but we tried our best” he said. Heart sinking… that was exactly how he was feel
“Okay, sure… just give me updates on how it's improving, and one of these days I will come over to see how far you guys have gone with testing,” she said over the phone as she made her way out of the university building and to the car park that was outside the compound where she had parked. “Thank you so much for your help with fishing out who was behind the disruption of the model we thought had failed testing, it means a lot to me and my dad… yeah, I am aware that you are a long-term employee here and I appreciate your honesty so thank you Mr. Hans” she thanked. Finally, they were able to pull out all the bad weeds in their company and employ fresh talents looking to grow in the field… now they are testing another model and hope that this time no one messes with it, especially now that they have heavy security watching the engineers overlooking the project. “Thank you once again and I will call you later,” she said and disconnect the call then walked out of the university’s compou
The past weeks have been really stressful and it’s taking a huge toll on Dimitri. Him following up with his secret investigations to put Daniella Copello behind bars for good this time and him asking himself countless times if he should go get his wife now or not. He has been battling that within him every single day and would sometimes go to Sofia’s apartment building and stay at the angle where her window was to just catch a grasp of her. He had gone there multiple times to the extent that a resident that didn’t recognize him told him that she would report his creepy routine if he came back to creep on the window he looks at every time comes around that area so he stopped going, even a disguise wouldn’t help. So, he got news about her well-being from Aiden frequently and it brought him some sort of peace that she was okay but just trying to cope with their little space as he calls it. It is never a separation, it is just them having space to figure things out. He would be comple
It has been less than twenty-four hours since she left and he was still seated in the same position that he was in from the previous day, only that he was leaning his back on his tie shelf and his long legs were sprawled on the floor. He slept that way and was sure to get an aching back, shoulder, and numb butt if he moves a muscle. How everything just went from smiles and flirting to cries, sadness, and moving out was way beyond him… he caused it this time and he feels ashamed that he couldn’t tell her on time and couldn’t even give her an answer as to whether he loves her or not. He hasn’t fully sorted out Daniella’s feelings yet and coming to a conclusion that he loves her when he hadn’t concluded if he still feels for his ex or not would be too much and would hurt badly. “I’m stupid” he muttered and closed his eyes whilst releasing a sigh. A headache suddenly hit the side of his head and he grimaced at the attack then let out a groan and adjusted his body against the shelf beh
“Are you sure you are okay?” he asked her and she nod her head and wiped the fresh tears that rolled down her cheeks. “I’m fine thank you” she responded with a forced smile and he nods they just looked at her and wished he could see Dimitri so he could land his fist on his face. “Do you need me to walk you in?” “No, it's fine… I can manage from here, you’ve done enough” she sniffed again and he smiled and then gave her hand a comforting squeeze. “I told him not to hurt you and he did exactly that” he let out a sigh and tighten his grip on the steering wheel as he voice out what was on his mind. “I wish I could give him a piece of my mind right now and…” “Philip… It's fine, I am fine and it's just a minor issue between a husband and wife and we will figure things out soon” she squeezed his hand that held her and offered him a smile and it was a genuine one. ‘I hope’ she wanted to add but didn’t want to say anything more about what happened between her and her husband to him or ju
It was a look of intimate familiarity and that was one of the reasons she felt hurt now she is thinking ‘what if she is just putting too much meaning to what she saw?’ He might actually be irritated by her and her doings but with how she was feeling at the moment, she couldn’t see things that way… he felt like he needed that hug from her when she entered and saw them like that. ‘He didn’t hug her back’ her mind told her but she ignored it and proceed to ask her previous question. “Do you still have feelings for her?” she asked one more time and got her answer when he didn’t answer. She bit her bottom lip to stifle a sob then looked at him with the tears pooling out of her eyes and down her cheeks. “So, you still love her,” she said and he didn’t say anything but just looked at her. They stared into each other eyes with hurt written all over their face. “You don’t need to do this,” he said after a while and she shook her head and then closed her eyes as the tears kept coming down
