LOGINDamian woke with a splitting headache and the weight of his choices pressing on his chest.
But it wasn’t just the alcohol talking. The idea had stuck.
He had money — more than he’d ever need — yet he couldn’t buy peace. Not love. Not closure. Maybe what he needed wasn’t comfort… maybe it was distraction.
On his phone screen, the link still glowed, he was now in the website
"Need a cookie? Adults only"
He knew what it meant he didn't hesitate. He clicked the link conciously, he was no longer the little Damian they held by the hand and directed what to do.
The CEO of Cross Holdings he knew exactly what to do and the steps he was taking.
He entered his details, chose a location — the Black Orchid Hotel — and hit confirm.
When he closed his eyes that night, he wasn’t sure if he wanted company or punishment.
***The next morning***
(Damian's Pov)
This morning felt different, we have just rounded a discussion with the board of directors in the company
"Sir, please this is the file you are to sign" the head of the manufacturing department said passing the file to me.
"This is it, the plan should be effected immediately we need to be ahead!" I replied passing the file to him after signing.
The board meeting was over, I walked to my glass-walled office again.
"Sir you have some calls from a sister company, they said they need some supplies for an ongoing contract" Kace replied, she is always in and out of my office, mastering every of my movement a dependable secretary indeed.
"What is the name of the company" I asked eagerly
"Rexon's Oil and Limited" She replied quickly clutching her tablet to her chest
"Rexon's Oil...." I muttered trying to recall the familiar name
"Oh.... that's my Dad's business tycoon associate" I replied quickly
"Kace!" I called
"Yes sir"
"Send the details to my email immediately, we'll see if Cross Holdings can strike a good contract with them"
"I'll do that immediately" She said walking out of my office quickly to resume her office dealings
I quickly turned my iMac on uploading and checkmating report sheets form all the departments of the company.
A notification buzzed on my phone. I picked my phone to see the message clearly
"Don't forget your cookie!" The message read
My thoughts flashed back at last night. I marvelled how I forgot every thing that happened
"That guy must be right" I muttered
Evans Adam, the guy at the wedding who helped me up. I didn't know who he is, but I see a fact in what he's saying. He's indeed something
After having a bunch of files, appeals, permisiion and revisons buzing into my office and mail it was finally and end to work that day.
The knock came just after nine.
I had been pacing the length of the suite, glass in hand, rehearsing all the things I wouldn’t say. When the sound reached me, sharp and certain, I froze.
The door opened.
For a moment, the world steadied. A woman stood framed in the doorway, light from the corridor spilling around her like a halo made of gold. Everything about her was deliberate—the tilt of her chin, the slow confidence in her steps, the faint scent of jasmine trailing behind her. The dress she wore caught the candlelight and clung to her shape just enough to make breathing an act of discipline.
“Mr. Cross?” she asked, voice soft but sure.
I nodded, setting the glass aside. “You’re from the agency.”
“That’s right.”
She didn’t offer a name, and I remembered what Evans had said—no names, no past, no attachments.
“You make quite an entrance,” I said.
Her lips curved. “That’s part of the job.”
I let my eyes travel—never too long, never rude, just long enough to notice the balance between elegance and danger. “They should give you a raise.”
“Flattery doesn’t change the rate, Mr. Cross.”
That made me laugh. “I wasn’t bargaining. Just admiring good presentation.”
For the first time she smiled for real, and it wasn’t practiced. It was quick, human, almost shy—and that tiny break in her mask caught me off guard.
“You’re different from the type that usually calls us,” she said.
“Maybe I called for the wrong reasons.”
She tilted her head. “There are no wrong reasons, only prices.”
I studied her again—the confidence, the professionalism, the spark of curiosity she tried to hide. Something about the contrast fascinated me. I wanted to know what she was like without the script.
“So,” I said, leaning back against the arm of the couch, “what do they call you when you’re not working?”
Her smile faded. “That’s against policy.”
“Policies bend,” I said quietly. “People don’t.”
For a heartbeat she just looked at me, and I could see the battle behind her calm expression. Then, almost in a whisper, she said, “Aria.”
The name fit her—short, musical, a secret meant to be kept.
“Aria,” I repeated, tasting the sound. “Beautiful name for someone who pretends to forget beauty.”
She looked away, pretending to straighten a candle. “Don’t read too much into it, Mr. Cross.”
“Too late,” I said.
The air between us shifted, charged with something unspoken. Outside, thunder rumbled far off—just enough to shake the windowpane. She turned toward the sound, and in that small, distracted moment I saw something flicker across her face: hesitation… or fear.
I stepped forward. “Is everything alright?”
Her eyes snapped back to mine. Whatever I’d seen was gone, hidden under a practiced calm.
But I wasn’t sure I believed her.
I quickly finished my shopping. It took quite some time to arrange everything I bought into the black Cadillac car. Fred and I beamed with joy as we went through all the protocols required for us to travel back home.We were very joyous, and we couldn't wait to see Damian.I knew Damian would be happy—but not entirely. When I arrived, I quickly called my friend Salome to ask how she was doing.I had memorized her number years back, so it wasn't difficult calling her.“Hello?” I waited for the receiver on the other end.“Hi, who is this?”“Am I speaking with Salome?” I asked, because her phone was normally with her siblings.“This is Salome speaking, and who are you?”“It’s me, Aria. Salome, how are you doing?”“Aria… Aria…” Salome burst out crying.“Salome, I’m sorry. My phone had a problem, so I wasn’t able to call you.”“I’ve been looking for you everywhere! Your house got burnt. I heard you were harassed by thugs. I was so worried. How are you?” she wept.“Baby, I’m fine. I’m doing
We had a smooth flight and arrived just in time. Fred pulled up in a stark black Cadillac Escalade, the type that screamed money without trying hard. The windows were tinted so dark I couldn’t even see my reflection until I leaned in close. The afternoon sun glazed over the airport as I adjusted my silk hair, making sure every strand sat perfectly in place. "If I am going to play this game am going to play it well" I sighed. We pulled up to the valet at Dolphin’s Mall, Fred gripped the black card like it was his destiny. “Dolphin Mall, Ma’am. Are you ready?” I smiled slowly. “I was born ready. Let’s show the billionaire what he signed up for.” Fred swallowed. Dolphin’s Mall wasn’t just a mall — it was where price tags didn’t exist, because if you had to ask, you couldn’t afford it. “Which store first, Ma’am?” Fred asked carefully. “Gucci.” The glass doors slid open and heads turned immediately. The sales associate hurried toward us with a polished smile.
"You! I know you set her up! Who was the client? Wei, give me a name" I ordered Wei didn't flinch "Be careful Salome. Some names are too heavy for a girl like you to carry" A girl like me? Wei had the nerves to insult me!A drunk and weirdo like him. "Wei, how dare you?" my voice sounded dark and deep, I walked slowly around the office like the boss himself. "You gave me a threat right," I slammed his desk again and he got scared this time " I am giving you two days to find Aria immediately!" I stormed out of his office, banging the door behind me. Everyone in the agency knew me as a nice, cool girl. I was quite popular but what they didn't know was— I knew all if not everyone's secret. I was fondly called the scorpion by my old pals because my sting always left a scar. My legs moved swiftly. I ran away from Tourist Street, it was quite a distance but my body surged out of the area with a force I can't fathom. I knew what I have signed for, Wei won't just back out.
"Take her to the mall," Damian instructed, handing over the card to Fred. "Not just any mall. Take her to the Dolphin mall. And Fred? Make sure she doesn't come back with just one bag. " My breath hitched The Dolphin mall? I have seen it in magazines— a place where a single pair of shoes cost more than my old apartment. I looked at the black card in Fred's hand, it seemed like a ticket to luxury, a golden chain linking me and Damian. I could feel a swarm of butterflies erupting in my stomach, a mixture of nerves and pure excitement. "Is there a limit?" I teased Damian paused at the door, glancing back over his shoulder. "Try break it, Aria I dare you" He smirked— the first real one I have seen this morning. "Let's see" I grinned, biting my index finger softly, as I watched him turn away. He left me then, but his scent was still strong in the room. I hurried to the window, peeping through the heavy silk curtain. I watched as his BMW 7 series glided down the driveway
The silence that followed was defeaning. It wasn't just quite, it was the kind of silence that rings in the ears.Heavy with the weight of secrets I had just strip bare I could not bring myself to look at Damian's face anymore. The arrogance I usually saw there has been replaced my something raw. His look fueled a fire in me. "Pride" I hissed loudly. I rolled my eyes trying to mask the fact that my hands were trembling. "Fred" Damian called "Yes sir" He replied choking lighty The staff member— Fred— left the scene his eyes darting between us. He looked like he wanted to vanish into the floorboards. He did not wait a second, he gathered the start napkins and vanished towards the kitchen, until it was just two of us.Just the two of us and the ghost of the night we wanted to forget. Damian didn't move. His fingers still resting near the edge of the table, his knuckles still white. His gaze remained locked on mine, dark and unreadable. "Aria! is that all I was to you?" his
“Madam, is anything the matter?” a knock came followed by a familiar voice. I stood up quickly and wiped my tears. Opening the door, I saw the staff member standing there. “I'm—I'm so sorry to disturb you…” I stammered. “No need. Tell me, what can I help you with?” he asked kindly. I bit my lower lip, studyingat him. I didn’t know if he wanted to help me out. “Em… it’s my phone. I was in the rain, so I guess it developed a fault, and I wanted to call my friend.” “Ah! See, ma’am, I am not a phone repairer, but I am going to get one early this morning,” he reassured me. I nodded to myself. I felt like jumping out of my skin, I hadn't realize he could hear me crying. “Is that okay?” “Yes, very well,” I replied. “And?” he questioned, studying my face. I was confused at the moment. “You must be hungry” he asked. “Y-yes!” “You could simply have told me. It's no problem at all,” he said, leading me out out of the room. “Okay, I understand now!” I smiled. He led
"You're welcome to my house" Damian said. His apartment was beautiful, "Only beautiful apartment like this exist on social media!" I muttered Every scent and breath I took screamed luxury, perfection and comfort. "Aria!" "Yes-Yes sir" I quickly came out of my thoughts "This is not my of
“What?” My voice came out sharp, low, dangerous.“It happened just now. The bank flagged it as suspicious, but the transfer already went through. Sir, what do we do?I froze, mind racing.“Find out who did it,” I said, each word a command. “Now.”Kace nodded and ran out.I stared once more at the p
"Sir, someone is here to see you" Kace's assistant said again, her voice trembling. Everyone attention shifted to her, their raging eyes crushing her timid look. Wrong timing, Poor Reina! "Tell them I'm not—" I began, burned with anger. "It's a woman sir. She said it's urgent" She hesitated
Suddenly blue lights and red lights flashed through the alley, the whirling of sirens were now loud and clear.I summoned courage and gave the thug a blow, he let me off his grip, not willing to retaliate and ran as fast as he could. My knees buckled hitting the cold pavement. For a moment, all I h
