Elena POV

“ My child, I heard what the other rascal did to you and I apologize deeply,” she said, holding my hands dearly.

Her thumb brushed over my knuckles like she was trying to heal every wound Alex left behind her touch but it was far from healing.

Now I know that Alex was never mine and I was never his. But I won't lie to myself that I didn't love him.

I smiled faintly, more out of habit than warmth. I wasn’t sure how to respond. The words “I’m okay” were too fake. And “I’m not okay” felt too heavy to say aloud.

So I just nodded.

“Don’t worry about me, Nana,” I said quietly, letting her hold my hand. “I’ve already decided to focus on myself and… the baby.”

She hummed in agreement, the kind of hum that was more than agreement—it was as if she agreed and at the same time thinking.

Nana didn’t speak again. She just stood, dusted her hands like she’d finished arranging something important, and checked the time.

Then she smiled.

“Right on time,” she muttered under her breath, a litt

Alex POV “ Alexander Chadwick Donovan”God, I hated when she called me that. It sounded like judgment wrapped in thunder and disappointment.I turned slowly, not even bothering to wipe the exhaustion off my face. Nana stood at the doorway, her coat still on, purse dangling from one hand, but her eyes… God, her eyes were full of fire and heartbreak.“How could you let this happen?” Her voice cracked, but she didn’t stop. “To my child… and my grandchild?”I didn’t answer. I didn’t even flinch. I just stared at the bed.Elena.At her motionless body hooked up to machines and IVs like they were the only things keeping her alive. I stared at her pale skin, her lips, her fingers that used to grip mine when she was nervous. Now they were still. Everything was still. Too still.Nana walked in, slow, dragging her tired legs across the floor like the weight of the room was pressing her down. She moved straight to Elena, didn’t even glance my way. Her wrinkled hand trembled as it reached out a

Alex POVA loud knock came first, then the door flung open and one of the maids rushed in, breathless and pale. “Sir…sir! The young mistress… she’s been in an accident!” My heart stopped. “What?” I stood up immediately, my voice hoarse. “She… she’s been rushed to the hospital. It….it’s really bad. We've retrieved all her things….”I didn’t wait for her to continue. I didn’t have to. I just grabbed my jacket, stormed past everyone and tore through the house like a man possessed. My heart thundered in my ears as the driver sped through red lights. Each second felt like eternity. I stared out the window, fists clenched, throat dry. Not Elena. Not after everything. My hands wouldn’t stop shaking. Nick’s call came in just as we arrived. “Where are you?” he asked. “Hospital,” I muttered. “Get here. Now.”I burst into the ER like a storm. “Where is she? Elena Donovan. Where the hell is my wife?” I snapped at a nurse, grabbing her by the arm.“Emergency… surgery,” she stammered. “She’s

Elena POV "9th April - Fremont Street." My breath caught. With trembling hands, I clutched onto my coat as the video started to finally play. The footage was of a CCTV video and there was a street. My parents' car crashed into a black car and tumbled over. I flinched, covering my mouth with both hands as the loud, violent screeching sounds of tyres and glass scattering screamed out loud from the phone. The video cut again, and a blurry figure stepped out from the other car. A tall staggering figure stepped out of the car, walking toward my parents who seemed to be struggling. It looked just like— No. It couldn’t be. I shook my head as tears spilled down my cheeks, my throat clenching like I couldn’t breathe. I turned around recognising the figure to be my precious husband. “ Hey”Damien quickly paused the video, pulling me into a hug. I cried like I hadn’t cried in years. How could he? Why would he? Why didn’t he tell me? Was all this a game? His kindne

Elena POV “What do you mean?” I asked, voice shaky.“The investigator I hired… he came back to me with some weird findings. He said your parents’ case? It was labeled confidential. Like, beyond normal protocol. Some influential party had it buried. And any attempt to reopen the case was flagged and pushed back with legal force.”I blinked, not understanding. “Why would anyone try to cover up my parents’ accident? It was just a car crash…”“That’s the thing,” he said, leaning forward. “It wasn’t just a crash. It wasn’t even an accident. According to what the investigator pieced together… there were signs of tampering. Their car was rigged.”I felt the breath leave my lungs.Rigged?No. No, no, no…I opened my mouth, but no words came out.“And that’s not all,” Damien continued, his voice low. “A few days ago, Alex came to me. Told me to back off. Said I should keep my hands out of places they weren’t needed.”I stared at him, my blood running cold.“What?”“Yeah. He wasn’t aggressive

Elena POV I look at him then at the paper then at him again, repeating it for a couple of times.I couldn't believe my eyes. What was I looking at?“ What is this?” I asked even though I'm quite sure this is the documents of my parents house, after the fifth time of reading the heading at the top.“ Your parents house”I stared at the paper reading each line without missing a single word. I still couldn't bring myself to accept that the house which I almost died for is now miraculously in my hands like nothing had happened.“ How? How did you convince Pete to sign you the documents?” “ Who said I had to convince him”He smiled Right there I couldn't hold back the tears that had been threatening to pour out since I saw the document. Not tears of sadness but tears of joy.I smiled looking back down at the paper as tears rolled down my cheeks. His fingers cupped my faces, raising them to meet him. “Hey, look at me.”And I did.“I promise to help you get back everything you've lost to t

  • The Billionaire's Accidental Bride    Chapter 105 - The surprise

Elena POV The car felt too quiet, like even the hum of the engine didn’t want to break my thoughts. I held the paper tighter than I needed to, fingers curled around it like it could crumble into ash if I let go.Catherine’s voice kept echoing constantly in my head. Her every sentence, and that one line. “Ninth of April, ring any bells?”God, how did she know about them?I stared out the window, but I wasn’t really looking. My mind was miles away, back on Fremont Street, back to horrors and terror as they rushed my parents into the hospital. How things went silent from then on till they brought the news to me.I bity lips slightly trying to hold the tears from coming out as my heart thudded louder than the car's tires on the road.I know her aim is to break me and Alex up and I shouldn't trust or think about anything she said but the thought of Alex ever been connected to my parents death was rather concerning.Everything just didn't make sense. I mean after they died, they immediate
