I was still standing there, stunned, shocked and regret written over my face, when Nick barged into the hospital hallway.

“Alex, what the hell happened?” he said, almost out of breath. “Is the baby okay?”

I blinked. “What did you just say?”

He paused, looking guilty as hell. “…The baby. Is it?”

“You knew?” My voice was low and deadly. “You knew she was pregnant and didn’t tell me?”

Nick didn’t even flinch. “Yeah. I knew.”

I clenched my fists.

“And you didn’t think I deserved to know?”

“No,” he snapped. “Not after what you did. Not after how you treated her like garbage. She trusted me, Alex. I wasn’t gonna betray that for you.”
