Sarah's POV

I didn’t realize when I picked up the phone. Maybe it was because of everything building up at once, the pressure, the humiliation, the feeling of being trapped with no way out.

My fingers hovered over his number for a few seconds, then I pressed call.

The line rang. Once… Twice… Three times… For a moment, I thought he wouldn’t answer.

Then… “Sarah.” His voice came calmly.

Something in me cracked. I didn't know what to say so I kept quiet for a moment.

“Why are you calling?” he ask

Sarah’s POV“I don’t want you going out alone.”The words came out calmly from Adrian's mouth.I blinked slowly, my fingers still resting on the edge of the dining table as I looked at Adrian. For a moment, I wasn’t sure if I heard him correctly.“You don’t… want me going out alone?” I repeated softly. He nodded once, his expression neutral, his gaze fixed on me like he had already thought this through long before saying it out loud.“Yes.”I shifted slightly in my seat, my chest tightening in a way I couldn’t immediately explain.“Why?” I asked. It came out softer than I intended. Before Adrian could respond, Eleanor spoke.“He’s right,” she spoke calmly.I turned to her fully. She met my eyes without hostility, without that familiar coldness I had grown used to. Instead, there was something else there now.“You shouldn’t be going out by yourself right now,” she continued.I frowned faintly. “Right now?” I asked. “What’s different now?”Adrian leaned back slightly in his chair, his p

Sarah’s POVAdrian didn’t say much that morning. He just walked into the room while I was still brushing my hair, leaned casually against the door, and watched me for a few seconds like he was thinking about something.“Get ready,” he said finally.I paused mid-motion and turned slightly. “For what?”He didn’t answer immediately. Just pushed himself off the door and stepped further inside.“We’re going out.”I blinked. “Out?”“Yes.”And somehow, that alone made my heart skip slightly.“Where?” I asked, lowering the brush slowly.“You’ll see,” he replied. There was something different about him.I nodded slowly. “Okay.”I didn’t know what to expect.Even as I changed, even as I stood in front of the mirror trying to decide what to wear, my mind kept circling the same thought. Why now?Adrian wasn’t the type to do things without reason. So this had to mean something.I chose something simple. Nothing too loud, that would make me feel out of place beside him. When I stepped out, he was a

Sarah’s POVAt first, everything felt calmer. After the situation with Mrs. Carla, Adrian seemed more attentive than usual. Not in a way that felt forced, but in a way that made me feel seen. Like he was making an effort to keep things steady between us.And strangely, Eleanor changed too. That was the part I noticed the most. The woman who had always spoken sharply, who never missed a chance to remind me of my place, suddenly… softened.“Sarah, have you eaten?”The first time she asked me that, I actually thought I heard wrong.I looked up from where I was sitting at the dining table, my expression caught somewhere between confusion and surprise.“Yes,” I answered slowly. “I have.”She nodded. “Good,” she said. “You shouldn’t skip meals.”I watched her for a moment longer as she adjusted something on the table before walking away.It felt strange, but not unpleasant. The next morning, it happened again. I came downstairs expecting the usual silence or tension, but instead, Eleanor wa

  • The Billionaire's Contract Bride   Chapter 54

Sarah’s POVThe call came when I wasn’t expecting anything.I was sitting quietly, trying to settle my thoughts after everything that had happened earlier. The house had gone calm again, like nothing unusual had taken place. Adrian had stepped out, saying he needed to “handle something,” and I hadn’t questioned it.I was learning not to question too much.So when my phone rang, the sound felt louder than it should have.I glanced at the screen.Unknown number.I hesitated for a second before answering. “Hello?”There was a brief silence on the other end.Then…“Mrs. Sarah.”The voice was familiar. My back straightened immediately. “Mrs. Carla?” I said, surprised.“Yes,” she replied. “I didn’t expect you to pick up so quickly.”I frowned slightly. “I… didn’t know it was you.”Another pause. Then her tone changed slightly.“Of course you didn’t,” she said. “That makes this even more concerning.”Something in my chest tightened. “I don’t understand,” I said carefully. Her response came i

Sarah’s POVI wasn’t supposed to be downstairs. That was the first thought that came to me as I quietly stepped out of my room.Ever since the day Eleanor shouted at me for coming downstairs, I had always been scared. I had gone down only because I needed water. But as I reached the top of the stairs, I stopped.Low voices coming from downstairs. What are they always talking about? Eleanor and Adrian. At first, I thought it was just another discussion. Then I heard my name, and it made me pause completely.I stood still at the top of the stairs, gripping the railing lightly, trying not to make any noise as I listened.Adrian’s voice came first. “She just needs to verify again.”There was a short silence before Eleanor replied. “That didn’t work the first time.”My brows pulled together slightly. What didn’t work?I leaned forward just a little, careful not to step further.Adrian exhaled. “It was a mismatch. The system probably just didn’t read it properly.”System?I frowned. That s

Sarah's POV He called my name softly from the doorway.“Sarah.”I looked up from where I was sitting on the bed, my phone loosely in my hand. Adrian stood there, one hand resting lightly against the doorframe.“Yes?” I answered. He stepped inside fully now, closing the door gently behind him.“I need something from you,” he said.My brows lifted slightly. “Something?”He nodded. “It’s for the house upgrade registration. Some documents need authorization verification.”I blinked. That sounded… official.“Now?” I asked.“Yes,” he replied without hesitation. “It won’t take long.”I nodded slowly, setting my phone aside. “Okay.”He moved closer to the small desk near the bed and placed a slim device on it. It looked like a small biometric scanner, the kind used for secure access systems. My eyes followed it curiously. “What is that?” I asked.“Fingerprint verification,” he said casually.I frowned slightly. “For what exactly?”He smiled faintly, like the question was expected. “Just conf

Sarah's POV Adrian entered the room carrying a tray of coffee, toast, and a small bowl of fruit. He set the tray on the low table before me, his gaze avoiding mine at first. Sarah's POVEleanor remained standing, pacing around the sitting room. "That project… You will not do it. Not under any circumstances. Sarah's POVVoices. Raised, heated, echoing up from the floors below like thunder. Eleanor's sharp, commanding tone sliced the air, followed by Adrian's lower, strained responses. And then... another voice.Another familiar voice I can never forget Kael.My heart stuttered, a mix of hope and fear

Sarah's POVI needed air. Or at least a change of scenery beyond these suffocating walls. Adrian hadn't returned since I'd ordered him out, and the nurse, Margaret, had been conspicuously absent, perhaps under new orders to keep her distance. Good. I couldn't bear the sight of her clinical smile k
