~Mia~
After microwaving the whole meal, I began to carry them in a large tray to the dining room, which was on the right side of the living room. As I walked out of the kitchen, my gaze fell on Mr Cross and his girlfriend on the couch, and what I saw shocked me. Sienna was seated on top of his thighs, facing him, and her mouth, I mean, the whole of her mouth was in his. Her eyes were opened and she stared at me keenly from above the couch. I gulped hard and hastily looked away. It seemed like she wanted me to see her doing whatever she was doing to him. It wasn’t my first time seeing people make out, it was a pretty common thing in my Aunt’s clubhouse, but seeing Mr. Ethan, whom I hold in high esteem doing this… It just felt weird. Especially… with her. I took hasty steps out of the dining room and into the kitchen again to bring out the remaining dishes. Every time I entered the dining room, I saw her always looking at me. ‘I wonder what is going on in her mind.’ “Mr Cross, dinner is served,” I uttered, and he hastily moved Sienna aside and raised his head above the couch’s backrest to look at me. “Oh! You’re there.” He muttered, standing up. “Let’s eat.” He uttered, looking at Sienna who had a smirk on her face. She cleaned the lipstick at the corner of her lips with her pinky finger and stood up, holding him by the arm. They both walked to the dining room and I kept my head slightly lowered. “Baby, can’t we go to the bedroom first? We can eat later.” I heard her mutter, and I unknowingly raised my eyebrows in surprise. ‘Please say no, Mr Ethan. The food won’t taste good when cold.’ I thought, fiddling with my fingers. “Let’s eat first, Sienna. The food will get cold, and we won’t like it. Moreover, I’m pretty hungry.” Mr Cross responded. ‘Yes!’ I yelled in my head as a smile slipped through my lips. I looked up and saw Sienna shoot me another deadly glance before sitting. “I hope this tastes good. It doesn’t look good.” She muttered, looking at the mashed potatoes with disgust. Mr Ethan raised his head and looked at me, letting out a soft smile. “Thank you so much for the food, Mia.” He uttered. “You’re welcome, Mr Cross. I’ll be in the kitchen if you need anything else.” I responded and without hesitation, turned to leave. “Wait!” I took a halt and looked at him. “Sir?” “Have you eaten?” He asked, and I shook my head, ignoring his girlfriend’s angry face. “I haven’t, but I’ll do that now.” “You can join us if…” “Hell no, babe. Why would she join us? She’s a maid, moreover, we have personal things to discuss, don’t we?” Sienna cut him short, and I gulped hard. “I’ll have my food in my room. Thank you, Mr Cross.” I responded. Just then, there was a knock on the door, interrupting our already-ending conversation. “That must be John. He didn't see me before we left the office.” Mr Cross said, and Sienna let out a sigh and rolled her eyes. “I’ll get the door,” I uttered, and he nodded. I took long strides towards the door and when I opened, it was Mr John. His face lit up as soon as he saw me. “Hey, Mia! How are you beautiful?!” He grinned widely, causing me to chuckle softly. “I’m fine, Mr John. How are you too? Please come in.” I said, making way for him to step into the house. “I got you this.” He replied, raising a white small bag as he stepped into the house. “What?” I asked in surprise. “Well, Ethan isn’t the only one that can buy you things, right? I need to constantly remind him that we found you together. Also, I am as nice as he is.” “You really didn’t have to, Mr John.” “I didn’t, but I got it anyway. Are you taking this from me or not?” He raised his brows, and I giggled. “Thank you so much, Mr John.” “John. Just John. Now, where the hell is that boy?” He asked, before looking up. “In the dining room,” I responded, pointing in their direction. “Oh! It’s dinner time. I love this.” He answered excitedly, rushing to the dining room, but then I saw him slow down as soon as he got closer. “Hey, man.” Mr Cross greeted him with a broad smile, while Sienna just had the same cold and angry expression she had on before. ‘Is that how she is to everyone else?’ I wondered. I couldn’t tell why she would give that same attitude to a funny and nice man like Mr John. “You ran off today. I went to your office and saw you were gone.” Mr John responded. “I’m sorry. I was with Sienna, so…” “Oh yeah. I get it. It’s cool. Hi, Sienna.” He greeted, looking at her, but as I expected, she ignored him. “You should join us. I bet we can’t even finish all these by ourselves. Mia prepared a whole feast.” Mr Ethan uttered with laughter, and I smiled proudly. I turned to look, taking a look inside the bag Mr John had given me. “I’m not surprised. I knew she’d be a badass cook.” Mr John answered and winked at me. “And I don’t think I should join you, Ethan. I’ll be in the kitchen with Mia.” We got back to the kitchen, and I proceeded to serve Mr John from the little left, while he sat on the long stools next to the cabinets. “That’s all this is left?” He asked, and I nodded. “It won’t be enough? I can prepare…” “No, no, Mia. It would be more than enough. Have you eaten though?” He asked, and I slowly shook my head. “I can take the remaining…” “Just put it all in one place, let’s eat together,” he said with a grin. “Really?” I raised my brows. “Well, you wouldn’t want to dirty more plates, would you? Since we are here together, let’s just eat together.” He responded, and I eagerly obeyed. I served the remaining dishes and served them on the cabinet. I pulled another stool closer and sat too. “Thank you for the food.” He replied with a grin before picking up the spoon. He took a scoop from the mashed potatoes and when he put it in his mouth, I saw his eyes slowly widen. “Woah! This is so good! What?” He exclaimed, and I laughed. “Thank you, Mr John.” “Trust me, I’m glad you’re living here. I don’t think Ethan has had homemade food as tasty as this. His stomach will definitely thank him tonight.” He uttered, taking another scoop. “Really? He cooks himself? And what about his girlfriend, she cooks too?” I further asked. “Sienna? Cook?” He scoffed and shook his head. “I’ve never seen her do anything in the kitchen. Ethan cooks a lot. In fact, he prefers to make his food himself. He’s pretty good, but you are better! He orders pizza and food on days he’s feeling too lazy to cook.” “Wow.” My face lit up with a smile. “I didn’t picture him to be a good cook.” “I didn’t either until I tasted his food.” He answered, and I nodded. We continued eating in silence and I kept fighting the urge to ask about Sienna from him, and why she ignored his greeting. “Ermm… can I ask you something? I don’t want it to seem like I’m prying…” “C’mon, Mia. Just ask.” He answered, looking at me. “Errmm… I noticed Miss Sienna ignored your greeting earlier. Did something happen or is that just how she is?” “Why do you ask?” He let out a smirk and took a sip from his glass. “Because I don’t think she’s happy about my presence here. Since she got here, she’s been looking at me in a kind of way, like she doesn’t like me at all.” He heaved a sigh and put down his glass. “Look Mia, the best thing I’d tell you about Sienna is that you should ignore her. She’s pretty frustrating and unbearable. The only person who can tolerate her is Ethan, and honestly, I don’t know how he does it.” “Oh,” I murmured, slowly nodding. “Just stay clear of her. You’ll be fine. I do that most of the time too.” “Hmm, I will,” I answered and continued eating. “There you are.” We raised our heads as we heard Mr Cross from the kitchen door. This time, we had finished our dinner already. “There you are too.” Mr John responded. “Mia, that food is heavenly!! Wow. I haven't tasted such great food in weeks!” He exclaimed, and my cheeks flushed hard. “Thank you, Mr Cross. “I told her that too. My belly blesses the day we saw her.” Mr. John responded as Mr. Ethan walked closer to where we were. “Where is she?” He further asked. “She left. Her mother called.” Mr Ethan answered. “And you didn’t drive her there?” “C’mon, John, you know I’m tired. She took one of the cars.” He sighed, and I gulped, acting like I wasn’t listening to them. I continued doing the dishes. “What is that?” He asked, pointing to the white bag on the cabinet. “Oh… Mr John got me a present.” I answered, and he raised his brows. “What? You got her a present? Why?” He furrowed his brows, looking at Mr John. “Are you jealous?” Mr John teased, and he scoffed. “You don’t get to buy her things without my consent, okay?” “I knew it. You’re jealous. Why can’t I? You’re scared she’ll end up falling in love with me?” “John, you asshole!” Mr Cross yelled, running towards him and Mr John ran out of the kitchen, laughing hard. “Goodnight, Mia! I need to get to my house before he murders me! Thanks for dinner!” He yelled from the living room, causing me to burst into laughter. I looked at Mr Cross and I realized he was looking at me and smiling widely. I immediately forgot how to laugh and clamped my lips, letting out a sheepish smile. He began to walk closer to me and my heart began to thump against my chest. ‘What is happening?!’ I yelled in my head as I feared I was going to break a sweat because of how nervous he made me. He stopped in front of me, his smile still solid as ever. “Let’s do the dishes together.”~Mia~Soon, the car rolled to a stop in front of a house that looked anything but modern—secluded, worn, and quietly tucked away from the bustle of the city. I stepped out and glanced around, realizing he hadn’t exaggerated—this place was truly peaceful.Behind the house, towering mountains stood like silent guardians. I could hear the gentle rush of a nearby river and the melodic chirping of birds in the trees. It was… perfect. Exactly the kind of calm I didn’t know I needed.“Come on,” Aleandro said with a bright smile as he stepped out and reached for my bags.“Thanks,” I murmured, returning his smile softly and following him, my eyes flicking around, soaking it all in.The house, though clearly aged, was spotless. The furniture and decor were outdated, no doubt, but they carried a charm that made them feel oddly comforting.“Honey?!” Aleandro called as he pushed open the front door and set the bags inside. Before he could even straighten up, a woman burst out from one of the rooms
~Ethan~I got to John’s place and let myself in—he’d told me to—then made my way to the living room. There he was, cozied up on the couch with Darla. They looked snug, but the vibe felt...off. A little tense.“Heyyy, dude,” John greeted, flashing a big grin as I approached.“Hey,” I replied, trying to match his energy. “Hi, Darla,” I added, turning to her. She beamed.“Ethan! Hi. You look nice,” she said warmly.I let out a short scoff, rolling my eyes. “This is what I wear every day—nothing special.” Then I softened a bit. “But thanks,” I added, and she gave a small nod.I took a seat on the couch opposite them, and Darla stood up. “I’ll get you some water,” she offered. I gave her a brief nod as she walked off.Once she was out of earshot, John looked me over, his brows pulling together. “You don’t exactly look like someone who’s happy about finding his girlfriend. What’s going on?” he asked.I clenched my jaw, fingers laced tightly. “She came back home... then left again,” I s
~Mia~I dragged my bags out of the house, and with every few steps I took, I couldn’t help glancing back at Ethan. He stood at the door, waving endlessly, sadness clouding his eyes.My Uber was already on its way to L’Aquila—a city about two hours from Rome. Just far enough to feel like a new beginning, yet close enough to home… because no matter where I went, my heart wasn’t ready to let go of Ethan.I offered him a faint smile as the driver packed my bags into the car and held the door open for me. I blew Ethan a kiss, my throat tightening as fresh tears welled up.“I love you, Mia!” he shouted.I let out a shaky laugh as the tears finally spilled over. “I love you too!” I called back, climbing into the car.I rolled the window up and leaned my head against the glass, letting the sobs take over.I didn’t want him to see me break down. Even though I knew I needed this distance, it still hurt like hell. The truth was, I’d never imagined my life without Ethan. But maybe… that was exact
~Ethan~I let out a heavy sigh and shook my head. “So you’re saying Sienna’s the one behind all this?” I asked, my voice laced with disbelief. She exhaled slowly, nodding faintly.“He never came out and said it, but my gut tells me it’s her. The sudden shift, all the things she’s done—it all adds up now. She’s been laying the groundwork this whole time so no one would suspect her.”“I had a feeling it was too good to be true,” I muttered. “But we’ll need more than intuition if we’re going to bring her down. Your word won’t be enough—we need concrete evidence that she and Bernard worked together to orchestrate your kidnapping.” I gave her hand a firm squeeze. She fell silent, her gaze distant. “I’m sorry you’re caught up in all of this because of me, Mia. I hate that I wasn’t there to protect you. I hate what almost happened to you…”“This isn’t on you,” she cut in gently, turning toward me. Her hand cradled my face, fingertips trailing lightly across my skin. My eyes drifted shut, lea
~Mia~I was thrown into a car, most likely the van I was brought in and I knew I was being returned to where they had abducted me, but this didn’t bother me. What bothered me was what he had said to me before blindfolfing me. It made me so curious about what was actually going on. So while we rode in silence, I broke the silence. “About what you said. Who is it i cannot trust?” I asked, and waited for a response. “I thought I told you to stay quiet.” His familiar voice came through from the front. “I am sorry, but I am curious. If someone around me is trying to hurt me, then why do I have to go back?” I asked, adjusting the way I sat. “What are you saying?” He asked and I could hear the confusion laced behind that question. “I am pregnant, and I wouldn’t do anything that would hurt my baby.” I lied again. “You said I should be careful with that Ethan guy. Are you saying someone close to me caused this? Ethan would never do this to me.” I added and took a pause again. “But you b
~Mia~“Ugh…” I groaned, wincing as a sharp pain stabbed through my head the moment I cracked my eyes open. I squeezed them shut again, trying to ride out the pounding ache that throbbed behind my temples. When I dared to open them again, I glanced around the room. It was unfamiliar—bare, eerie, and silent. A cold chill ran through me.“Hello? Help!” I shouted, struggling to sit up—only then realizing my wrists were bound to the bedframe.Panic surged in my chest. My heart raced as fragmented memories flooded back—being in the parking lot, the sudden attack, someone grabbing me from behind… someone I didn’t recognize.“Somebody help! Please!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. Just then, I heard the click of a turning doorknob. My eyes widened, my breath caught in my throat as the door creaked open to reveal—“You…” I narrowed my eyes, staring hard at his face. He was familiar. The only familiar thing in this nightmare. “I know you! What the hell is going on?” I yanked at the ropes, de
