He was awake. He was saying my name.

I took one step forward—about to rush to him when I felt Rose’s firm grip around my arm.

I turned to her, my chest rising and falling, and she slowly shook her head, eyes wide with warning.

I froze.

I knew it! I knew I wasn’t supposed to expose myself. For my own good, for the hospital and for rose's job, but my heart… God, my heart was screaming.

I stood there, rooted to the floor, my hands clenched into fists.

“Richard!” Sylvia’s voice snapped, pushing past me as she rushed to his side. “You’re awake,” she gasped, grabbing one of his hands with both of hers. “You’re really awake.”

The monitor beeped louder. Faster. Sharper.

His blood pressure was still climbing—erratic and unstable.

“His heart rate’s not settling,” one of the nurses warned, eyeing the screen. “BP’s still dangerously high.”

“Get a beta-blocker ready—IV push,” the matron barked. “Now! We need to calm him down.”

Elizabeth’s Point of ViewI dipped my head immediately, heart pounding as Rose stepped forward and tried to speak.“Uhm… ma’am, we’re just here to check his vitals.”Even without looking up, I could feel it—Sylvia’s glare.“Didn’t I tell you never to attend to him when I’m not here?” she scolded.“But ma’am, you were gone for almost an hour and—”“I wasn’t gone for an hour,” she snapped, cutting her off. “And even if I was, you should have waited. Is that too hard?”She paused then, her eyes sweeping over all of us like we were insects under a glass.“So?” she asked, folding her arms. “How is he doing?”Rose blinked. “What?”Sylvia’s voice rose again, sharp and impatient. “You said you came to check his vitals. I’m asking—what’s the update? Is there any progress? Or is this hospital just filled with useless, overpaid incompetents who know nothing?”We all stood frozen. Even Rose’s mouth hung slightly open. I had always thought Sylvia saved that tone for me… but clearly, no one was saf

“Good, let’s go. Mrs. Williams might be back soon,” Rose said, handing us clipboards and pens before ushering us out of the room. The moment we stepped out of Jessica’s room, my heart began to pound. Hard.It wasn’t just nerves—it was fear. Real fear. The last time I went up to that floor, Mrs. Williams had ordered the guards to beat me and lock me in their van. They would’ve done it too, if Beatrice hadn’t stopped them.“I hate your guts, I hate everything about you—but I won't let Sylvia do something Richard would hate her for. So for your own good, never come back up again. At least not until Richard’s fine.”Beatrice’s words echoed in my head as we walked toward the elevator. My palms were so sweaty it was soaking the clipboard. My chest felt like a shuttle. We got into the elevator, and Rose pressed the 12th button. Our eyes stayed glued to the lights as it ticked through every floor before finally—Ding. The door slid open. And there they were.Guards.Seven of them. Maybe more.

Elizabeth's point of view Three days later…The sound of the bell echoed softly, followed by a gentle knock.“Hello?” Vivian said as she stepped into the room, holding a tub of Jessica’s favorite ice cream and a bouquet of fresh lavender.“I came as soon as I could,” she said, her voice warm, her eyes scanning the room before landing on Jessica.“Viv!!” Jessica squealed, trying to sit up too fast.“Careful, careful,” I warned gently, rushing to steady her. The bruises on her face had begun to fade, but the cast on her arm was still fresh, and her body was still sore, every movement made her wince.“I am sorry I couldn't come earlier,” Vivian said softly, walking over and leaning in to hug Jessica tightly before turning to me.Her smile faltered slightly as she took me in. “How are you?” she asked, softly.I opened my mouth, then closed it. What could I even say? There were no words big enough for the storm inside me. I felt hollow… like I was barely holding myself up.So I just sighe

Elizabeth's point of view: The officer turned to me, his brows furrowed slightly. “Is this true, ma’am?” he asked, clearly confused.I blinked. “What?”I didn’t even know what part he was asking about—Sylvia had thrown so many accusations at once. My mind was spinning too fast to keep up.“I’m sorry, ma’am,” Officer Parker said, turning back to Sylvia. “But I’ve already taken her statement. If you believe she’s responsible for something, please come down to the station and file a formal complaint.”Sylvia’s eyes narrowed.“So what are you saying?” she asked, her tone sharp. “You’re not going to arrest her?” she snapped. “What I am saying ma'am,” the officer replied as calmly as he could, “ Is that I’ve done my part here. Further investigation would need to go through proper channels. I’m sorry.” “Do you even know who I am?” Sylvia snapped, stepping closer. “You’re going to lose your job for this.”“I’m just doing my ma’am, and if you would excuse me ma'am, I have to get back to the

Elizabeth's point of view; After they wheeled Richard away, a nurse walked up to me, holding a clipboard.“Ma’am, I need you to fill out a form for the patient in Operation,” she said gently.I blinked at her, still standing in the middle of the hallway like I wasn’t really there. My chest felt heavy, like a boulder was crushing inside it. My thoughts were scattered, foggy. She held the pen out to me, "what's your relationship with the patient ma'am"“I… I…” I choked, struggling to form words. What was I to Richard?“He’s my… boss,” I said finally, because that was the only thing that made sense on paper. As soon as the words left my lips, the nurse hesitated, her expression shifting.“Oh. I’m sorry. I’ll need a family member to fill this out then,” she said, gently withdrawing the form.“There’s no need for that,” a voice said from behind me.I turned around, slowly, to find Rose walking toward me.“That’s Mr. Richard Anthony ” she said to the nurse. “He owns this hospital.”The nurs
