Amelie’s POVOn our way home from Carrington’s, Kimmy called.“Hey,” I said excitedly. “What’s up?”“Well, everyone thought you and Nathan needed a break. We are all coming over with pizza,” Kimmy said.“It’s a nice gesture, but you don’t need to do that,” I replied.“Nonsense, we are already on our way,” Kimmy scoffed. “I hope you don’t mind, but I invited Madison, too.”“That’s fine. We are about 10 minutes away from home, but Zander is there if you beat us,” I advised.“See you soon,” Kimmy said and hung up the phone.“Kimmy?” Nathan asked.“How did you know? I giggled.“She’s so loud,” Nathan laughed.“Well, you’ll get to hear her up close and personal tonight, they are all coming over and bringing pizza,” I smirked.“Pizza! Awesome. I’m starving,” Logan announced.“Logan, you’re always hungry,” Eliza replied. “I think you must have two bellies.”“I do, but one is to eat up little Lizzybugs,” Logan teased and grabbed Eliza’s arm and pretended to chew on it.Eliza squealed and laug
Nathan’s POVAfter the funeral, we spent the afternoon with Grandfather at his mansion. He seemed really lonely. I can’t fathom what it’s like to lose both of your children to horrific accidents. My dad and Aunt Virginia were actually really close. I remember her coming over for dinner a lot when I was a child. My mother hated her, probably because she was so happy with her life. When Aunt Virginia was over, my Mother was always nowhere to be found. Now my mother has decided that she has to be here for ‘comfort’. Quite hypocritical, I feel. Amelie was outside with the kids and Biscuit when my mother cornered me.“So, you are seriously taking Logan and Eliza in?” my mother asked. “They are not your responsibility.”“We have already taken them in,” I indicated, “and other than marrying Amelie, it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.”“I’m just concerned if anything happens to Amelie,” Mother explained. “You would be left with raising kids by yourself.”“What do you mean if anythi
Nathan’s POVNo one was happy about what was happening this morning. As a family, we had to say our final goodbyes to three members of our family. It was going to be very hard on the children, especially Logan. Eliza wasn’t really phased by it that much because she was a little too young to comprehend. Logan, however, was at the age where it would hit him like a ton of bricks. He needed love and support today, and by the looks of it, he needed someone to tie his tie.“Logan, come over here. I’ll fix your tie,” I expressed. “How are you feeling?”“Kind of numb,” Logan stated. “I don’t know if I want to scream, cry, or run.”“Amelie and I will be there for you,” I advised. “You don’t have to face this on your own.”“Thanks, Nathan,” Logan replied. “I really do appreciate everything you and Amelie are doing for Eliza and me. I noticed last night, Eliza is already calling Amelie, Mummy.”“I know, Amelie didn’t know what to say,” I revealed. “Logan, you have to know that Amelie is not tryi
Amelie’s POVWe spent the next couple of days getting Logan and Eliza settled. Yuri and Samira came by to visit. I described my vision of the bedrooms to Yuri, and he really liked the idea of adding extra bedrooms. Logan and Eliza also met with Yuri to let him know what they were thinking of for their rooms. We did, however, have to draw the line when Eliza mentioned a moat around her room and a dungeon with a dragon. You can’t really fault a girl for trying, though. She had the same crazy spirit as I did. I literally wanted to bring a turtle back from Hawaii and build a turtle tank and beach! The rest of the time was split between trips to Alfred’s house and lawyers' meetings. Carrington signed for us to have guardianship for the children, and we signed all the necessary paperwork as well. We went shopping for clothes for Logan and Eliza for the funeral. Eliza wanted to wear a dark green dress because it was Fiona’s favorite color.Eliza had quite a hard, emotionally charged day on T
Amelie’s POVI headed down to the front desk in the lobby and was greeted by Lucas’ smiling face.“Mrs. Michaels, so glad to see you back,” Lucas stated. “It’s great to see you again, Lucas,” I replied. “How is Wendy and the kids?”“They are doing great. Melissa lost her first tooth yesterday,” Lucas announced.“Did my husband tell you about our newest family members?” I asked.“Yes, he told me Master Logan and Miss Eliza are to live with you permanently,” Lucas said, smiling.“Yes, Eliza lost her first two teeth as well,” I notified him. “I guess the tooth fairy is a busy woman this week.”Lucas laughed, “She sure is. I take it you’ve come for your mail and packages.”“Packages?” I said, puzzled. “I don’t think we were expecting anything.”“It’s mostly mail, just a couple of small boxes with it,” Lucas advised. “I’ll grab them from the back office.”Lucas walked through the door behind him and returned within minutes, handing over the mail and two small boxes.“Thank you, Lucas,” I
Nathan’s POVAfter we all piled into the limo, we set off for the penthouse. Eliza was almost asleep next to Amelie, meanwhile Logan and Zander sat across from each other and were playing on their phones. Biscuit was lying upside down on Zander’s lap, and I could hear his little puppy snores.I was holding Amelie’s hand, and we talked about redecorating the bedrooms for the kids. Logan had said he wanted a hockey-themed room, and Eliza wanted a pink princess room. I guess she had decided that she no longer wanted to be a queen. Instead, she wanted to be a princess just like Amelie.Amelie had visited Trudy in the guest house with Eliza and had made a cute little tooth-shaped tooth fairy pouch for Eliza’s tooth. Eliza also lost her other front tooth while she was there. The tooth fairy was going to have to mortgage her house tonight.“I was thinking I can see if Samira’s husband can come up with ideas for Logan and Eliza’s rooms,” I suggested. “The kids can even help plan the design.”
Amelie’s POVWe packed up Logan and Eliza’s belongings that were at Carrington’s and had them moved to the penthouse. We’d probably have to go over to Alfred & Fiona’s house a few times this week to gather up the rest of their stuff or have it packed up by a moving company and sent over.I stood in the living room watching Logan and Eliza play with Biscuit. It warmed my heart to see them looking happy despite what had happened a few days ago.I heard the clicking of heels approach.“Oh, so it is true,” Vivian drawled out. “Alfred’s spawn is here.”I attempted not to bite her head off as she approached. “Vivian,” I simply stated.“So, where are the little rug rats living now?” She said, looking at her manicure. “I take it Carrington will have them and send them off to boarding school.”“Actually, Nathan and I will be their guardians after we sign the paperwork on Tuesday,” I said, smiling at the children.“You have got to be joking,” Vivian sneered.“No, I’m quite serious. Nathan and I
Amelie’s POVI was a ball of nerves. I wanted to protect these children with all of my heart. I know they wouldn’t want for anything material with Carrington, but they deserved a home and love. I hoped one day they would accept me as a mother figure. I wanted to give them everything in their childhood that I missed out on. It was terrifying to wait for their decision. I couldn’t force them to choose me, and the lack of control had me on pins and needles.“I want to live with you, Princess and Naffin,” Eliza squealed through her toothless grin.Eliza jumped out of her seat and ran over to me. She hopped up on my lap and hugged me. I smiled so hard that a tear rolled down my face.Logan sat quietly. He stared down at his plate. Then, slowly, he started to speak.“I just don’t know what to say,” he whispered.“That’s ok. You don’t have to say anything,” I encouraged him. “It’s so new and frightening. I know your mind is going in 20,000 different directions. I’ve been there. I just want y
Nathan’s POVWe decided to talk to Logan and Eliza after brunch. If they would agree to come live with us. We all, including Zander, could head home to the penthouse today. I did not doubt that Amelie could convince them. My wife could sell sand to people sitting on a beach. We were sitting in bed, talking, when we heard a small knock on the door.“Who is it?” Amelie called.“It’s me, Princess,” Eliza yelled back.Amelie hopped out of bed and went to the door. Luckily, she was wearing her tank top and shorts. I, on the other hand, had to scurry into the closet to pull on a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt. I walked out of the closet to find Amelie and Eliza snuggled on the bed.“Well, if it isn’t my two favorite girls in the world,” I announced.Eliza giggled and blushed. “Naffin,” she lisped.I looked startled and mimicked her. “Naffin?” I said. “When did I change my name to Naffin?”“LOOK!” Eliza screamed. “I LOST MY FRONT TOUFF!”“Oh, so that’s why I’m Naffin,” I chuckled. “Now, I
