13. The Cold Reality

Silence enveloped the car. The soft purr of the engine and my heart that continued pounding in my chest were the only sound within my car. Brandon squeezed my palm again before talking.

"Jewel, come let's eat together like old times," Brandon murmured.

"No," I shook my head. My eyes filled with unshed tears as I stared out through the window, controlling the urge to throw myself on Brandon's broad chest, bask in the warmth of his embrace and beg him to take me with him as I couldn't stand the cold reality of his departure this time.

The eerie silence in the car and the powerful androsterone emanating from Brandon made me desire him more than ever.

"Bran… please, go. Rachel is waiting for you," I murmured. But no words came from Brandon. He continued to gently squeeze my palm. I turned my head to look at him and was taken aback by the expression in his eyes.
