Amelia sobbed and sobbed until there were no more tears left in her eye sockets. She didn’t even realize that it had gone dark outside. All she could think about right now was her mum. How would she survive without her mum?

To make matters worse, her dad was in a mess right now, and in no position to parent a child.

He was always drunk. If her mum really left them, then she was as good as having no parents at all, because her father could barely even take care of himself right now.

Amelia sat on the floor, close to the sofa. She has been crying her eyes out since she read the letter her mum left.

While she was still sitting there, Mr. Clark opened the front door high as hell, staggering uncontrollably as he walked into the house.

He clutched a half-empty bottle of vodka underneath his armpits as he came in.

“What’s for dinner, wife?” Mr. Clark rambled in his hoarse whiskey voice.

Amelia stopped crying to pay attention to the person coming inside the house.
