Chapter 14: Offered her a job.

After Kiandra left him standing there, his mood was ruined and so he decided to go home instead of the office.

He had just come out of the shower when his phone rang. He checked and saw that it was Spider calling him.

“I sent the information you requested for,” Spider told him, and Lucas hung up.

He immediately got dressed and took his laptop, so he could read the information on Kiandra Aidan.

Opening the file, he started to read it. There was nothing suspicious about her life prior to graduating from high school.

However, Lucas found whatever happened after, suspicious. In the report, it says she traveled prior to her eighteenth birthday, and she somehow became pregnant with her daughter, Zendaya.

There was nothing however in the report about who the father of Zendaya was. There were no pictures, no name, and no evidence of who the father was.

The fact that Kiandra didn’t even have a boyfriend all through her high school days made it difficult to ascertain who he was.

And what was even more shocking was the fact that Kiandra gave her last name to her daughter. That meant either two things, either she didn’t know who Zendaya’s father was or that she didn’t want him to have anything to do with her and her daughter.

He guessed the latter as from the report, it didn't look like Kiandra was the type of woman who slept around.

There was nothing in the report that connected him to Kiandra so why did she have that look when she saw him? The one after he got her fired from her job was justified, but not the previous looks.

And that was why he got her fired. He wanted to know why she hated him and for that to happen; he needed to have her close to him. And what better way to do that than to have her work for him?

His gut told him that there was something off about Kiandra and Zendaya, and he was going to figure out what it was.

The next day, Kiandra began her search for a job that would keep her engaged for the time being.

To her shock, however, no one was willing to hire her. She applied at stores that had a call for hire pasted in the front, but they refused to hire her.

One store owner was shaking as he told her that there was no job vacancy. She could feel that there was something strange going on, but she couldn’t quite wrap her finger around it.

Her suspicion was finally confirmed when she went back to one of the owner’s offices where had gone in search of a job after forgetting her phone.

“You can tell Mr Valencia that I didn’t hire the girl,” she heard the store owner say.

Oh! She should have guessed that he was the one who was behind this. After all, he had promised to make her pay for punching him.

She waited until the store owner was done with the call before barging in. “So Lucas Valencia is the reason why you refused to give me a job,” she stated.

“Listen here, I don’t know what the problem between you two is, but you should know better than messing with such a man who can kill you and get away with it if he pleases.”

“I…” Kiandra started, but she was cut short by the owner.

“He has only come after you, and you should be thankful. If you keep provoking him, he’ll go after people you love. Don’t make the same mistake my son made,” the man offered her a piece of advice while giving her a sad smile. One that made Kiandra wonder what Lucas had done to the man and his son.

“It’s a little too late for that,” Kiandra deadpanned as she picked up her phone. Without wasting any more time, she left the man’s office and took a cab to Lucas’ company.

How she was going to get to see him, she didn’t know, but she couldn’t just continue wasting her time searching for a job when it was obvious that she wasn’t going to get one all thanks to Lucas Valencia.

She walked into the building, still not having any plan. However, to her surprise, a tall man walked up to her and started to lead her up to Lucas’ office.

Of course, the asshole would have known she would come there after finding out what he did. “You can go in,” Spider said to Kiandra when they reached outside Lucas’ office. He helped her open the door and waited for her to go in before closing it.

Kiandra saw the devil sitting in his seat going through some files. He knew she was in the room, but he refused to acknowledge her presence as he continued reading the file in his hand.

“Was your ego so bruised that you decided to stop me from getting a job?” Kiandra finally broke the silence in the room.

Lucas slowly lifted his head up and he met her eyes. Dropping the file on his table, he leaned back on his chair and a smile appeared on his table, which irked Kiandra as she hated to see him so happy.

“Wow, I thought you’d be begging me by now,” Lucas commented casually.

According to the report he read on her, she was someone who didn’t like to find trouble, and she had kept her head low even though she was bullied while in high school and college.

Was he the exception to her keeping her head low, or had she changed?

“Do you have children at home?” Kiandra tested the waters.

“I hate children,” Lucas answered coldly, and Kiandra shook her head. She didn’t know what she was expecting him to say. After all, he did try to kill his own child.

“Ahh, that says a lot. I wonder, were you a grown up when you were born?” she asked sarcastically, and Lucas squinted his eyes at her and an evil smile crept up his lips.

“You know, I wonder how you will be able to take care of your child with no job,” he jabbed at her.

“I’ve managed since the time she was born and so, I’ll figure out a way,” Kiandra replied.

“Even with her condition?” Lucas asked Kiandra, and he watched how the angry expression changed to a murderous one.

“I said it once, and I’ll say it again. Keep my daughter out of your mouth,” Kiandra warned Lucas.

She hated anyone bringing up the fact that her daughter wasn’t as strong as a normal child, especially from the one who had caused it.

‘I made a mistake coming here,’ she muttered to herself and she turned to leave.

“Come work for me,” she heard Lucas say when she got to the door, which caused her to stop in her tracks. Did she hear right? Was the asshole really offering her a job?

“You should consider a career in comedy, you’re quite good at it,” she suggested without turning.

“I’m being serious,” she heard him say.
