Just when I thought about going after her, a familiar voice rasped behind me.

“There you are, Alec Rivera!” I turned to find Clarissa Wren standing behind me, a wine glass in one hand, and the other hand akimbo. “Avoiding me again?”

But I couldn't look away either. Not with the way his shorts clung to him.I ran back to my room and dashed into the bathroom. My hands trembled as I peeled my clothes and stepped under the shower.Finally. Just what I needed. The water beat against my skin, cold and steady. But it didn’t wash the memories of him—his scent, his heat, everything.Damnit it.I was here on business.Nathaniel Rivera was a complication I couldn't afford. My nemesis. So why did my body refuse to listen? Why couldn't I just stay away from him?Groaning, I tilted my head back and let the water stream down my face. By the time I

—Amira—The morning sunlight spilled through the window as I stood before my wardrobe, wondering what to pack in. He didn't tell me how long the trip was going to last.He didn't even tell me where we were going.I picked up my phone and dialed his number. It rang but he didn't answer. Then I decided to text him.‘How long is this business trip?’‘Five days,’ he replied.Oh, he was deliberately avoiding my calls!‘Where are we going?’ ‘You will see.’I wanted to insist but remember how stubborn and persistently annoying he could be. He wouldn't tell me even if I pressed.Tossing my phone, I packed my luggage then slipped into the bathroom. After a warm shower, I returned to the room and dressed in a blazer and pencil trousers. My chauffeur honked from the yard, signaling his arrival. I glanced across the window as he stepped out and leaned against the car.Exhaling, I dragged my gaze back to the mirror. My blazer accentuated my curves and my makeup was minimal.“Perfect!” I mumbled a

—Nathaniel—Disbelief flooded me as the doors closed after her. A bitter taste rolled down my throat. Breathing became hard.I could almost hear Damian laughing at me. Had someone told me this would happen, I would have sworn they were imagining itI buttoned my shirt just as my phone vibrated.A call from the head of my security.“Hello,” I answered.“Sir, we've found the information on Ms. Nwosu's grandmother.”I sat straighter. “I'm listening.”“She suffered a stroke which left her unconscious for days. She's recovered a great deal.”“Why is she still in the hospital?” I asked.“Amira is unable to pay the bills.”Silence followed. She was in debts and didn't bother to tell me? So much for trusting me.I raked my fingers through my hair. “How much are we looking at?”“About half a million.”“Half a million dollars?”“No, sir. I meant naira, and not dollars.”I rose from my chair and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window. Something wasn't adding up.Personally, I'd given her five hun

—Amira—A flint of anger sparked inside meHe was enjoying pulling the carpet under my feet every time. And I couldn't believe I fell for his tricks againOh, who said I couldn't play the game too? A reticent smile played on my lips as I straightened from his desk. I smoothed my dress and nodded.”Yes sir,” I mumbled.Turning on my heels, I walked out of his office.Soon enough, he’d learn that ninety-nine days belong to the thief—but one day always belongs to the owner.*. *. *. *. .*—Nathaniel—It all started a few nights ago when she arrived at the banquet. My heart had stopped beating and the world stood at a standstill.I slipped my hands into my pockets and watched as the cameras flashed on her from the press barricade. Exhaling, I excused myself from the group and started walking toward her, hating how my heart pounded so fast.I wasn't supposed to feel attracted to the woman who broke my heart.“Ms. Nwosu,” I called. We exchanged pleasantries and headed inside.

—Amira—My breath jackhammered. This should be the moment any girl would yell at the driver to stop the car, then take to her heels. But I didn't. I sat quietly, my eyes drifting to his lips, recalling the moment they captured mine... how warm and sweet they'd felt.Nathaniel smirked as if reading the chaos going on in my head. He leaned closer and kissed my ear.“Do we have an understanding?”I shivered, heart pounding. “Yes.”“Good.” He straightened and held my gaze. “Because next time, I won't be asking. I'll take what's mine... I'll be ruthless about it.”My breath caught. Wasn't I supposed to be screaming and running? But I inched toward him, my panties soaking with arousal.“You feel that?” he whispered. “That’s you losing control... that's you wanting to be ruined.”A moan slipped from my lips. “Nathaniel—”“Shhh,” he placed a finger over my lips. “Say it. Say it, that you want to be ruined by me.”“I–I want to be ruined by you,” I stuttered. He let out a small groan before sl

—Amira—The whole room floated away, desire blooming like a forbidden flower inside me.When had he flown back? He was supposed to be in a meeting with the president.“Mr. Rivera?” Joyce squealed and scooted to his side. “I-I thought you wouldn't make it.”“It's simple courtesy to honor an invitation,” he replied, eyes still locked on me. Before he finally looked at her. “Happy birthday.”She grinned and scratched her ear. “Thank you, sir.”At the moment he looked away, it was as if my senses returned. But his cologne continued to unravel me... reminding me of the times I was in his arms.I sipped my drink and fidgeted with the stem of my glass.“So glad to have you, sir,” Joyce said, and led him to our couch. “Amira. Come over,” she beckoned.I let out a breath and joined them.Conversations resumed, and the DJ went back to work, throwing in an afrobeat that thumped the speakers.“Good evening, sir,” I mumbled. There was a smirk in his eyes as if he were replaying how he’d messed with
