—Mabel—

Sunlight spilled through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the bedroom. A soft ray landed on my face, and I stirred.

I peeled my eyes open, and a smile flitted across my lips as I recalled last night. Then I glanced at his side of the bed. He was gone.

“Alec?”

I sat up against the plush pillows and yawned, then slid out of bed and checked the bathroom.

He wasn’t there. Neither was he in the closet...

“Mommy!”

Those three familiar voices echoed down the hallway.

I hopped back into b

—Caleb—She was shaking in my arms.I carried her away from the men, my jaw clenched so tightly it hurt. I wanted to turn around and finish what I had started.Instead, I kept walking. She was safe now. That was what mattered.I looked down at her. Her hair was messy, her face flushed, and her eyes struggled to focus.“Are you hurt?”Her fingers curled into the front of my shirt. She shook her head against my chest.“Eloise.”“No.”Her voice trembled, and her breath reeked of alcohol. She was drunk. My anger returned.I had spent the last hour searching for her. When she wouldn't answer my calls, I had checked the places I thought she might have gone. Then one of her security men finally told me she'd left the estate alone.Alone.No driver. No security.Nothing.I had never been so angry in my life. Not because she'd ignored me. Because she'd put herself in danger. I had found her surrounded by three men, and for a few seconds, I hadn't known if I was too late.“What the hell were yo

—Eloise—I stared at my reflection in the mirror.I was wearing a black fitted top, jeans, and heels. My hair was loose around my shoulders, and I had just enough makeup on to make it look like I hadn't spent the last hour deciding what to do with my evening. The engagement party had started an hour ago.I wasn't going.I was going to the club.I picked up my clutch from the dresser and checked my phone.Three missed calls from Mother. Two from Nathaniel. Several from Caleb.I smiled.Good.Let them wait. For the first time in my life, I was putting myself first before anyone else. And if that'd make the world burn, so be it.I turned away from the mirror and my eyes landed on the velvet box sitting on the dresser. The bracelet.I stopped.Of all the things Caleb had sent, why had I put that one back on the dresser instead of putting it away like the rest?I stared at the tiny crescent moon and star through the open box. Seven years ago, I had believed those two belonged together. I

—Eloise—The walls seemed to be closing in on me.Two days had passed since my parents told me I was going to marry Caleb Holt, but I still hadn't figured out how to accept it.I sat huddled in the jacuzzi in my bathroom, the steam curling around me.My phone rang again on the counter.Nathaniel.I stared at his name until the call ended.A second later, another call came through.Mother.I declined it.I wasn't ready to hear anyone's explanation. Not when every answer seemed to lead back to the same man.Caleb Holt. The man who could still evoke feelings I had convinced myself were long dead. Seven years had passed, yet my heart still reacted to him before my mind could remind me of everything that had happened between us.I remembered his reaction when I showed him the photo. The way color drained from his face.I reached for my phone, scrolled to the photo, and stopped cold.It was gone. For a moment, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. I stepped out of the jacuzzi, water

—Eloise—My breath caught.“Is that supposed to make me say yes?”His eyes dropped briefly to my lips before returning to mine.“No. It's supposed to make you understand why I'm not walking away this time.”The word landed with terrifying simplicity.I stared at him, searching his face for a trace of mockery, but there was none. And somehow, that frightened me more than the threat of losing Damian's shares.I turned to leave.“You have three days to decide whether you'll honor your brother's wager.”I slowed to a halt, my fingers tightening around my bag. Fury coursed through me as I faced him again.“What about your wife, huh?” I approached him. “Is she aware you're planning to marry someone else?”He blinked. “My wife?”“The woman I saw you with.”I fumbled inside my bag for my phone, pulled it out, and tapped the screen. After a few swipes, I found the photo I'd seen that morning and held it out to him.Caleb glanced at the screen and his face changed.Without hesitation, he pulle

—Eloise—I broke into a chuckle, then a laugh that reverberated through the room.My family stared at me, caught between shock and confusion. No one laughed. My smile faded as I looked from my brothers to my father, then to my mother clutching the pearls around her neck, waiting for someone to tell me this was some elaborate joke.“You're kidding me, right?” I asked. “Did you just ask me to marry the same boy who broke my heart a few years ago?”“People change, Eloise.”“Shut up, Damian.” I pointed at him. “You're the last person I want to listen to right now.”“You have every right to be upset,” Mother said.“No.” I shook my head. “I'll need to speak with my lawyer.”My father dragged a hand over his face, the anger in his expression giving way to something closer to exhaustion.“If Caleb takes this to the authorities,” he said, “Damian could face criminal charges.”My gaze snapped to Damian. He might've been a pain in the ass since we were kids, but the last thing I wanted was to se

  • The Billionaire's Hidden Triplets   BOOK 3: CHAPTER 4

—Eloise—I slowly opened my eyes to the morning light as memories of last night came rushing back. I rolled onto my back, not wanting to leave the bed.Caleb.His face. His voice. The way he'd looked at me after all these years, as though seeing me again hadn't stirred something in him.Seven years, and somehow, one night had been enough to make me feel everything I thought I'd buried.Groaning, I swung my legs over the side of the bed and made my way to the dresser. I was still wearing my party clothes and shoes. After arriving home late, I'd simply removed my jewelry before collapsing onto the bed.I stared at my reflection for a moment before kicking off my shoes and reaching for the zipper of my dress. The fabric pooled around my feet, and my gaze landed on the stupid matching tattoo Caleb and I had gotten together a few months before he embarrassed me in front of everyone. It was a small crescent moon intertwined with a star, inked just below my hip. He'd said the moon and star b
