“You were my biggest problem, Sarah. Dad always underestimated me when he compared me to you. I tried my best for him to notice me just once, but he was always after you.”
“In our first year in college, Dad was already hoping you would become his heir when you graduated. He had plans for you and left me with nothing. It hurt.”
“I explained everything to Collins, including my plan to take you down and take over Dad's properties. He understood me because he loved me and cared about my happiness.”
Sarah felt Agatha's words pierce her heart like needles, but she suppressed the pain and maintained a strong front.
She glanced at Collins with tear-filled eyes and saw him smirking at her. Agatha continued,
“I conspired with Collins and told him to do everything he could to win your heart. I knew you too well, Sarah. Once you fell in love, you’d sacrifice everything for it.”
“My heart raced with joy when he told me you were madly in love with him. That’s when I sped up my plans. I told him to kill your mom, and he did it without hesitation because he loved me.”
Suddenly, Sarah's heart shattered as memories of her mother's death flooded her mind. It felt like a razor was slicing through her chest. She couldn’t believe the man she had courted for four years was responsible for her mother’s death.
She turned to Collins, her eyes swollen with tears, her bottom lip quivering, and demanded through gritted teeth,
“Is that true? Are you responsible for my mom's death?”
Collins snickered and mockingly muttered,
“Killing your mom was fun because it made my love happy. These past four years with you have been hell for me. I never loved you. The only reason I married you was because we knew Mr. Richard would disown you when he found out I was poor. And he did, but instead of naming Agatha as his heir, he kept waiting for you. So, we injected him with poison at the hospital, and he died.”
“Now that we’ve succeeded in getting his properties, you mean nothing to me. Sign the document and disappear.”
Sarah’s world crumbled. The tears she had been holding back finally broke free, cascading down her cheeks. She couldn't believe the man she had sacrificed her whole life for had caused her parents' deaths. Betrayed and heartbroken, she felt a fierce desire for revenge.
Wiping away her tears, she steeled herself. She wouldn’t let them see her cry anymore. She reached for the divorce papers from the floor, and Agatha tossed a pen to her. Without even reading through, she signed the papers and, with a disdainful look, muttered,
“You’ll regret everything. Mark my words.”
Agatha laughed heartily at that. She looked Sarah up and down before replying bitterly, “We’re waiting to see what a homeless girl like you can do.”
“It’s just a bluff, my love. How can a vagrant like her compete with people like us?” Collins added, his words cutting through Sarah like daggers.
They slammed the door in her face and disappeared from her sight.
Sarah wished the ground would open and swallow her, but instead, she clenched her fists, trying to soothe the pain in her heart.
Dragging her luggage, she stormed off to the roadside. She looked left and right but saw no cars or any sign of people.
The sky rumbled, signaling an impending storm. Feeling the first drops of rain, she spotted a tree and hurried to sit beneath it.
Shivering in the cold, she thought about how she would survive, having no friends or family to turn to.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed, snapping her out of her thoughts. She pulled it out from her back pocket and answered it quickly. It was her best friend, Rita, who had been traveling since their graduation.
“Hi, bestie! How’s married life treating you?” Rita asked cheerfully on the other end.
A burning sensation rose in Sarah's chest at the question. She sighed deeply and replied sadly,
“It’s a mess. Are you back in the States?”
“I am. What do you mean, Sarah? Did Collins hurt you?” Rita asked, her voice full of concern when she sensed the pain in Sarah's voice.
“I’ll tell you everything when I get to your house,” Sarah muttered, ending the call.
She managed to catch a taxi, and before long, she arrived at Rita’s house. She knocked on the door, and within moments, Rita hurried to answer, knowing it was Sarah.
When the door opened, Rita’s face fell at the sight of Sarah drenched and shivering from the cold.
Rita pulled her inside, and Sarah sat on the living room couch, feeling a bit warmer from the heat in the room.
Rita noticed Sarah’s puffy eyes and handed her a duvet before asking with concern,
“Why were you out in the rain? What happened? And why are you here with your luggage?”
Wrapped in the duvet, Sarah revealed everything to Rita, who gasped in shock.
“He’s a jerk and a murderer. I always had a bad feeling about him, but you never listened to me. He deserves to be in prison for life, not just for betraying you, Sarah, but for killing your parents. We need to report them to the police right now,” Rita urged, her tone sharp.
“Not yet. We don’t have enough evidence,” Sarah replied sadly.
“And how are we going to gather evidence against them?” Rita asked, worry evident in her voice. Sarah lowered her head, and tears streamed down her face as the feeling of helplessness washed over her.
Sarah got to the lot and entered the car that was waiting for her, with the driver behind it. The driver smiled at Sarah when he noticed her presence. He got into the car immediately and started the engine as he drove off from the lot.Sarah heaved a deep sigh as she gripped the seatbelt and let go of the tension pressing down on her heart. She was consumed with jealousy over Raymond spending time with Lucy, but since they hadn't received any confirmation about Lucy’s secret lover concerning Lucy's pregnancy, Sarah didn't want to accuse Lucy of forcing the pregnancy on Raymond just to have him for herself. She had intended to wait until they discovered who Lucy's secret lover was before exposing her to Raymond and everyone.Sarah rolled her eyes to the louvers, dispelling the thought from her mind. She rolled down the louvers, wanting some fresh air on her body. She closed her eyes and took a breath in as the air brushed her face. In the midst of her interaction with the air, she reca
Lucy’s jaw tightened when Raymond’s words pierced her ears. She glared at him with discomfort, sensing her heartbeat racing with jealousy, and she uttered,“You are being unfair to me. Why do you think so much about her and care less for your unborn child? I'm carrying your child, Raymond, and that must be the most important thing to you because you don’t have an heir.If you don’t love me much, then don’t abandon your child because we need you now. Your child is innocent and doesn’t deserve rejection from you.”Raymond’s face drew into worry when he heard Lucy's complaints. He scratched his head as frustration built in his eyes. His gaze shifted to Lucy's exposed stomach, looking at it deeply as the desire to hold his child consumed him.He thought that what happened between them was unplanned, but he didn’t have to make his child feel lonely because it was his blood.Lucy looked into Raymond’s eyes and noticed her words had put him in deep thought, which made her mouth curve into a
The night disappeared like a speeding train. Sarah waited for Raymond the whole night, but he didn't come, so she slept over and left the door unlocked.Sarah gasped awake to turn off the ringing alarm that echoed in her ears from the edge of the bed.She blinked several times, rubbed her eyes, and a yawn escaped from her lips as she stretched her body. She turned around, and her eyes widened in pleasant surprise as she saw Raymond sleeping soundly like a baby.Raymond held onto Sarah’s nightgown in his sleep, and Sarah grinned when she saw that. She gently removed her gown from Raymond's arms, intending to head to the bathroom without waking him up.Meanwhile, Raymond felt it when the gown slipped through his fingers, but he didn't open his eyes, pretending to still be asleep. He grinned when he noticed Sarah’s intention of sneaking away from him quietly.Just as Sarah was about to step down from the bed, Raymond grabbed her from behind, making her flinch. She fell into Raymond’s arm
“You are only considered to be in this house because of the child you're carrying for Raymond.I don't even think that the pregnancy you claim is for Raymond is true or not, so don't even think of calling yourself a mistress in this house. Raymond saw you, but he chose me to be his queen, and I deserve that position from him, but not a greedy lady like you,” Sarah exclaimed with a mocking grin as she looked at Lucy, who was filled with anger.Lucy’s heart twisted painfully in her chest, making her look at Sarah with reddened eyes as she felt her heart racing. She stepped closer to Sarah, gripped onto her cloth, and ranted,“I will deal with you today, you bastard.”“Let go of me. Leave me alone,” Sarah sputtered while trying hard to shove Lucy’s hands from her cloth, but Lucy’s grip was firm, and she was shaking Sarah with all her might, wanting to grab Sarah’s hair, but Sarah was defending herself.Their voices grew louder in the hall, catching the workers' and Raymond’s attention.T
Sarah pulled over at the parking lounge of Raymond’s mansion. Her eyes were dry from the drenched tears. She felt she had cried enough already and needed to accept the problems that had erupted in her relationship. She had to look forward and take her enemies down.“Linda has promised to uncover Lucy’s true colors, so I must be strong for myself because I have a lot to focus on—the company and reclaiming my properties,” Sarah uttered with determination in her eyes. She heaved a deep sigh to calm her nerves and accept her fate. She stepped down from the car and threw the keys to the driver standing at the lounge. The driver greeted her with an excited grin, exposing his white teeth, and Sarah responded with a wave as she passed by him, heading toward the door leading to the hall.Sarah intended to leave the house and live with Linda because of Lucy. She presumed Lucy would be troublesome and wasn’t ready to tolerate her nonsense.Sarah had deliberated on it with Linda, but Linda sugges
Collins grabbed his phone as he sat comfortably on the seat with a jovial expression. He was happy that he had completed the contract with the clients and that things would move according to his plans. The company will get huge exposure in multiple countries, and that will multiply our income, making me successful.“I have reached a milestone by securing foreign investors, but I still have my biggest dream to achieve. The huge one I’ve been aiming for. I must find a way to convince Agatha as soon as possible. She must hand over everything to me because I'm the man who can protect the properties. And if that happens, that will be the end of the journey for them,” Collins mouthed with determination in his eyes as he ran his hand through his hair in frustration. He pulled out his phone from his pocket and intended to call Agatha to update her on their contract. He dialed her number, and the line indicated it was going through.“Hello, honey,” Agatha said in a soft voice.“Hi, honey, I ha
Sarah pulled over at Linda's apartment. Her heart was weighed down with the pain of heartbreak, and she had been crying her eyes out.The idea of leaving Raymond for Lucy and the problems arising in their relationship felt like a stab in her heart. She gripped the steering wheel, lowered her head onto it as tears cascaded down her cheeks, and whimpered in sobs."Why do I always get hurt when it comes to love? Why can't I find true love? What have I done to nature? Nature is being unfair to me."Meanwhile, Linda was awakened. She walked to the glass window and rolled over the curtains blocking the sunrays, but her eyes widened in surprise when she noticed Sarah’s car parked in front of her apartment. She squinted through the glass to see if she could spot Sarah, but a twinge of pain pricked her heart when she saw Sarah with her head lowered onto the wheel. From the distant view, Linda discovered Sarah was weeping due to the quivering of her body.Consumed with worry, she hurried outsid
Collins paced back and forth in his office with a worried expression on his face.He had been swamped with worries and fear of Raymond and Sarah’s intentions to avenge them and take over the properties from them. The properties were his priority and the main motive for being in Agatha's life because he had committed crimes that could send him to jail. He had invested his life into the properties, so he didn't want them to reclaim them until his plans for the properties were secured.Collins intended to transfer the properties into his name so that he could sell half of them and disappear from the country. He knew Agatha wasn't the rightful heir to the properties, and the truth could come out at any time, or they could dump him if he didn't think outside the box and get his share. He had consulted Agatha about his plans and intended to convince her to transfer the properties to him so he could manage them properly. But Agatha refused, telling him not to act greedy because her mother di
“Uncle, I don't want to sound harsh on you, but Lucy cannot stay with us. I don't want any misunderstanding in this house because I know she is troublesome. She can't stay here, and that's my final decision as the owner of the house,” Raymond poured with reddened eyes towards Mr. Tyson, who was looking at him unblinkingly.Mr. Tyson's veins bulged on his neck as he felt ashamed of how Raymond spoke to him in the presence of the ladies. He abhorred it when people talked back at him and tried to turn him down.“I don't care about your decisions because you don't know the consequences of them. You are blinded by unfaithful love, so you don't care about your reputation. You don't care about the family reputation, including the companies. How would people think if they discovered that you are not living with the woman you impregnated but are hanging around with a different woman?” Mr.Tyson poured.“I don't care about people's opinions about my personal life. I don't care how they judge me
