Chapter 37

J’s POV

I paced around the room, running my fingers through my hair in frustration as the doctor examined Mira.

I shouldn’t have left her alone—especially with a monster like Rachel. What was I expecting from someone like her in the first place?

But how dare she? How dare she lay a finger on my Mira?

“She only choked on something. She’ll be okay,” the doctor finally said.

I looked up, narrowing my eyes at his statement. I had thought Rachel was the one who hurt her when I wasn’t around. That was part of the reason I called her a monster and treated her the way I did at the mall.

Guilt suddenly crept in.

“She just needs some rest and fluids,” the doctor added. “I’ve already given her a sleeping pill so she can regain the strength she lost. It’ll take a while before she wakes up.”

I watched as he took off his stethoscope and placed it in his bag.

“Thank you, doc,” I said.

“I’ll ask my driver to drop you back at the hospital.”

He nodded and left the room.
