SAVANNAH'S POV

The lady in the painting wore a flowery pink dress, the same dress I had worn five years ago. But how? She looked exactly like me and it couldn't be a coincidence.

How did Diego know this? Was he hiding something? My mind bugged with questions. Maybe I should ask him—or maybe not. He may just treat me as coldly as the previous night but I was bound to find out with or without his help.

Just then, Tara tapped me from behind and I turned.

“It's almost 1pm ma’am. It's time for you to go shopping,” Tara said loudly.

“So we're going by the clock now?” I muttered to myself, almost burying my face in my palms. However, her hands were stretched towards me and a black card lay hanging between her fingers.

“Mr Diego dropped this for you. It's an Infinity Card only owned by the Montenegros. You can use it to buy whatever you want at the store,” she revealed.

I had heard of these customized cards but I had never seen one up close. I took the card from her, observing it. It was black, heavy, and the name Montenegro was boldly inscribed on the front and back in gold ink.

“The driver is outside waiting,” she told me as she rushed to continue with the other things she had to do around the house.

A small smile tugged at my lips. Finally, I could replace my worn out clothes with nicer ones. I tucked the card in my dress pocket as I hurriedly made my way outside.

A sleek, luxurious car waited outside. I didn't know if I should be excited or just play cool. An imposing man walked out of it with a warm smile.

“Good afternoon ma’am. I'd be your driver for the day,” he said, still wearing his smile. He opened the car door gesturing for me to go inside.

I lifted my dress slightly, making myself comfortable on the seat. I guess there were perks to being Diego's wife.

In a few seconds, we began our journey. After a short drive, we were right in front of Tisha’s—the most popular clothes store in the city.

Without hesitation, I rushed through the glass doors. My body shook with excitement and my heart raced. The cool air swept my feet, the blinding lights reflected on the clothes in the store. It felt like I fell into a world of the rich and glamorous as everyone present had luxurious clothes and accessories.

“Who are you and what do you think you are doing?” A female voice said from behind me.

I turned to see a young lady throwing me a disgusting stare. The store's logo was inscribed on her shirt. Her eyes ran from my head to my toe like she was searching for something. I stared at her for seconds before speaking.

“I—I came to get clothes,” I stammered, barely above a whisper. She scoffed, still giving me that disgusting look.

“You can't afford clothes at this store so just leave. I mean look at your dress,” she said laughing loudly, with her palms covering her mouth. “Did you get it from a roadside boutique?”

I tightened my fists and bit my tongue. What was she trying to say? I wouldn't let her get the satisfaction she wants. Now, the attention of the other customers was on us.

“Can you please let me shop!” I exclaimed, my chest already thumping hard.

“Suit yourself,” she said, rolling her eyes before walking to the counter. With her gone, I could feel a surge of fresh air.

With a deep sigh, I started shopping. I walked through each section with my eyes fixed on the dresses. I’d pick whatever fits my fancy until my trolley couldn't contain anymore clothes.

After that, I went to the counter to pay up. She was there, still staring at me.

Immediately I stretched out my card to pay, she screamed.

“Where did you get that you pauper!”

Without letting me explain, she snatched the card from my hand, observing it closely. “Only the Montenegros are allowed to own this. Did you steal this?”

“I would appreciate it if you would give me my card back,” I told her calmly. I didn't want this to escalate.

“I know thieves like you. I’d report you to the police and then you'd learn your lesson” she grinned.

“What are you doing Maria? Do you know who you're disrespecting?” Another lady said, walking in. Her breathing was heavy with fear written on her face.

“You mean this pauper?,” Maria snapped. “I caught her with this infinity card,” she said, holding the card up high.

“Mr Diego Montenegro informed us about his wife's visit today. So if she has the card, she must be Mrs Monte—

“Oh shut up, Belinda. What do you know?” Maria slammed her hands on the counter.

I was running out of patience and I needed to do something quickly. “I'm Diego’s wife and the card belongs to me,” I argued, wondering why she’d doubt me like we have been enemies from another life.

Maria scoffed as her eyes traced their way from my head to my toe. “Mr Diego has better taste than this,” she sneered.

I felt a sharp pain in my chest as I tightened my fists even tighter this time. The store grew loud with murmurs as people began to record with their phones. Some even went live on the internet.

“Hand the card over or you call Diego himself,” I said, trying to take the card back.

“Slap!” Maria’s fingers landed across my face. I couldn't believe it. How could she be this rude? I didn't know what to focus on—her or the sting on my cheeks.

“It's Mr Diego to you. You have no right to call him by his name!” she blurted out, staring fiercely at me.

I scoffed, rubbing my stinging cheeks. I just couldn't wait to see her face when she realises who he is to me.

“Mr Diego has been our loyal customer for years. Do you want to ruin that?” Belinda asked her.

“I'm putting a call through to him. I can't wait to see what he would do to this pauper when he gets here,” Maria said, dialing Diego’s number with a phone she picked at the counter. After speaking on the phone inaudibly, she came back with a sinister smile playing on her face.

“Brace yourself, Mr Diego will be here anytime soon alongside the security,” Maria announced. “You will be severely punished.”

Security? punished? She couldn't be serious. Diego wouldn't let them lay a finger on me, would he?

DIEGO'S POV I woke up to Savannah's warm embrace. I hadn't felt this good in a long time. This was what I wanted every day. "The nurse said James had woken up and I didn't want to disrupt your sleep," her soft voice rang in my ears. I sprang up immediately. I didn't want to waste another second. I needed to see James. I dragged my feet towards the ward with Savannah trailing behind me. James leaned on the bed, his eyes wide open and a smile tugged at his lips. "I told you, I can't die so easily," he muttered. I didn't even realize when my lips stretched into a smile. "I'm so sorry about last night but you shouldn't have taken the shot for me," I said as my face twisted into a frown. "I made a promise a long time ago, that I would protect you and I intend to keep that promise," he said, trying to sit up with a groan. He was still in pain and it made my heart ache. "What matters is that you're alive," I said, breathing out deeply. "What about the documents?" he asked,

SAVANNAH'S POV Since James called Diego out last night, I had not heard a word from either of them. Tara had tried calling James. I had called Diego but there was no response. My heard pounded. The thought of something bad happening to him frightened me. It was a weekend, no work so I had all the time to think about it. In fact, I couldn't even stay in one place. I had been pacing around the house. "Ma'am, you really should have breakfast. I'm sure they're both fine," Tara assured me but I could still see the worry in her eyes. Just then, Cassandra came running like she was being chased. "Ma'am, ma'am, something bad happened," Cassandra blurted out. Sweat rolled vigorously down her face.My chest thumped even faster. "What happened?!" I screeched. "They're—they're at the hospital. Sir Diego and James are at the hospital," she revealed. Hearing that, it was as if a sharp knife plunged through my chest. "Which hospital?" I managed to say. "St. Martin's" I strode my feet acros

DIEGO'S POV "James, what happened?" I asked as we approached the car. From the way his breathing was rough, I knew something terrible was happening. "It's Don Gustavo. I think you should prioritize your safety even more now," James said, opening the doors for me. "You need to see for yourself.""James, you haven't told me what's going on yet," I muttered, worried. "I have a plan. You said we couldn't reprimand him because we had no evidence right?" James started. "Well, we can get evidence now. I would have gone with someone else but I needed it to be between the both of us.""What kind of evidence?" I pushed further. "Drugs, fraud, guns," James spoke. My eyes widened as I stepped backwards. "He has a warehouse full of drugs, he is into fraud and he kills whoever poses as a business rival to him. Once we can gather all that, he'll be in police custody," James finally revealed. My jaw dropped. Deep down, my chest danced with happiness. On the other hand, I couldn't help but worr

SAVANNAH'S POV My stomach churned, and my jaw clenched. The audacity! "Be a good girl and think about my offer," Reynolds said, with an annoying smile. I squeezed my skirt, my fingers almost tearing into it. It was my way of holding myself from doing anything out of anger. I had to think of better ways to handle the situation. Probably to teach him a lesson. I feigned a smile. Then walked out of the office with my legs shaking. The rest of the day, I played it all in my head. Reynolds, the videos, Diego! "Sandy," I called. It was the new pet name I had given her. "What did you say about Reynolds hooking with ladies at the office?" "Shhh—come over here," she whispered, holding my arms, fear written on her face. "Have Reynolds tried anything with you?" I gulped, not knowing what to say. "That's a yes. Please, avoid him at costs!" she warned. "You should tell Diego." I paused. "Blood will flow, Sandy. I don't want that." "Who cares? At least Reynolds will fi

I always wanted my first sex to be with someone who really loved me. I pulled away with my head bowed. "I promised Sandy that I'll be back before 12pm." Checking my time, it was already 11:30am. Besides, there's so much for me to do at the office. We'll talk when we get home."He didn't argue. He created a space for me to pass through. "At least, let me drop you off," he muttered. "Diego, the situation is already as bad as it seems. Seeing us together might spark more controversies so I'll see you later okay? I said, reaching for the door. "At least, let James drive you," he added, making me stop again. I sighed. "Alright. I'll meet him outside." Walking out, my gaze landed on Laura throwing me a deadly glare. Somehow, it made me satisfied. James was already there waiting. "Ma'am Savannah, p

I just love seeing you in misery," Molly responded chuckling with her wrinkled hands folded. Benita scoffed. "What will you do about it? report us to your rich husband?" Both of them laughed. Their voices filled the air like banshees. My fists tightened, my chest closed with no space for air.
