SAVANNAH'S POV
“I'm sorry, have we met?” I blurted out, trying to recall if I had met the woman in front of me before. Just then, she circled me, with her stilettos clicking loudly on the marble floor. My heartbeat increased and my breath hitched. “I'm Laura, Diego's secretary,” she said, feigning a smile. “I don't know what Diego saw in you, but you do not deserve him!” she sneered, staring straight into my eyes with a disgusting stare plastered on her face. “I had no intention of marrying Diego. Even with that, we’re already married and there's nothing I can do about it,” I said calmly, not wanting it to escalate. Like I had a choice. “Diego deserves someone better by his side. Someone like me! Someone who's driven by passion and has seen the real world,” she said, still staring at me. “You can't support Diego in any way!” I scoffed. I had heard of overzealous secretaries who fall for their bosses but this one was so unbelievable. I would even be glad if we had to exchange lives so she could understand the circumstances surrounding my marriage with Diego. “Laura, I’m very much capable of rendering support to my husband when he needs it,” I said sternly, already tired of her gimmicks. “You think rendering support to Diego is by washing dishes? I've heard about you Savannah. You spent your whole life as a servant!” she sneered. My fists tightened and my heart fell. How did she know all of that? Tears welled up in my eyes but I held them back to avoid giving her the satisfaction she wanted. “Laura, I don't want to be enemies with you since you work for my husband so can you just let me enjoy the party or I will tell Diego. You know how he can be when people make those around him uncomfortable,” I threatened. “Your husband?” She grinned, with her eyes piercing through mine. It looked like if there was a remote to life and death she’d press death and end me immediately. “Not for long Savannah. I will make sure,” she said, counting her words. “I must have Diego.” “What's going on here?” Diego asked abruptly from behind us. Immediately, my breathing slowed and I felt even more relaxed. “Here, have something to drink,” he added, handing me a wine glass. “Mr Diego,” Laura called out, beaming. “Savannah and I are just getting to know each other. In fact, I was telling her how lucky she is to have you,” she said, losing herself in his eyes with one finger rolling her curly blonde hair. She was clearly lusting over Diego in front of me. I couldn't believe it. Diego nodded, not saying a word and Laura hurriedly walked away but it didn't stop her from throwing deadly stares at me from a distance. I stood, lost in thoughts when Diego's voice jolted me out of thoughts. “Now that we're alone, tell me why you were sad the moment we stepped foot here,” he said, crouching to my level. The way he did that every time, locking eyes with me made me feel lesser in height. Diego was unarguably very tall. “It's—it’s nothing you should be bothered about,” I stammered. “I'm not blind Savannah. You are so easy for me to read so I know exactly how you're feeling even if you don't tell me,” he revealed, searching my eyes for answers. What did he mean by I was easy to read? “Fine!” I groaned. “Parties make me nervous because I never had good experiences with them. I mean the last time I enjoyed a party was five years ago with someone I never saw again until now.” I blurted out, breathing heavily. Diego's eyes immediately widened like he knew exactly what I was talking about. “A person?” He asked. “Who was it?” I wondered why Diego was suddenly interested in little details about me. But then, my mind drifted back to the boy I had met that night, the boy I knew I would never see again. “You don't have to worry about it Diego. The party is almost over, shouldn't we be heading home now?” He stared back at the crowd absent minded and stared back at me. Was he even listening to me? “You’re enjoying the attention you're getting from the ladies here that's why you want to stay longer,” I queried, making my way outside in a flash. I couldn't believe I was bothered about him talking to other women. He followed behind me as we walked towards the car. “Don't tell me you're jealous, Savannah,” Diego said, immediately we got there. “Why would I be? I didn't want to marry you in the first place remember,” I blurted out, folding my arms and jerking my head sideways. “You would have to get used to me, little bunny,” he said, pushing his face towards mine. Now, our faces were barely inches away from each other, with his hands pressing the car walls for support. “say the words, and I’ll be yours.” Was he playing games with me? My chest thumped louder by the second. His breath against my skin did things to my body and I shivered. “Diego, people are looking at us,” I mumbled, but he didn't care. His face immediately curled into a frown. “No one can tell me how to act around my wife,” he said, adjusting his tuxedo and pulling away from me. His demeanor turned cold like I had offended him. “Let's go home,” he said blankly. “Get in the car.” I did exactly as he said, while wondering why a person would switch so fast. Without saying another word to me, he entered and ordered the driver to take us home. It didn't take long and soon, we were at the mansion again. He walked quickly inside the house and I followed behind him. “Why are you suddenly quiet?” I asked, pissed. I hated being kept on edge and anxious but what I was feeling was way more than that without a doubt. “Go inside and get some sleep,” he said, sternly. Without wanting to argue further, I stomped my feet angrily to the bedroom. I took a quick bath and changed into my night wear. My mind was still drifting back to Diego so I was wide awake waiting for him to storm in and give me an explanation but there was no sign of him anywhere. Tired of waiting, I took a blanket ready to have a comfortable sleep on the sofa. I didn't know what Diego was thinking so I dared not get on the bed!DIEGO'S POV It was 10pm, and I walked slowly into the room to meet Savannah tucked in a blanket on the sofa. I knew she was wondering why my mood suddenly changed but before I could wrap my head around it all, I decided to transfer her to the bed. Getting closer, her slow breath rang like sweet melodies in my ears. Even in sleep, she was beautiful and innocent. I sniffed her neck to inhale that flowery smell I had always loved. With one hand holding her legs and the other supporting her back, I carried her slowly to the bed to avoid waking her up. Earlier, I had to pull away because I could feel my demons coming out. I couldn't help but hate myself at that moment. Looking deep into her eyes, it felt like I was a demon trying to corrupt an angel. As much as I wanted to be lost in her eyes, I was starting to doubt the chances of her ever loving me. Was I undeserving of love or happiness? I didn't want to hurt Savannah or drag her into this dangerous path I had chosen. I wante

SAVANNAH'S POV My chest wouldn't stop beating hard with each passing second. I wasn't supposed to be afraid but somehow I was. Maybe he was still angry with me because of what happened the previous night. “Mr Diego is here,” Maria announced with a chuckle while sizing me up. The doors flung open with him barging in fiercely. “What happened!?” Diego raged at Maria. “Sir-sir Diego. This woman is an imposter claiming to be your wife. Please punish her,” Maria stammered. My eyes traced Diego's tightened fists, his rough breaths were clearly heard. “An imposter?” “How dare you disrespect my wife?” Diego raged, counting his words. “But sir-I didn't -I didn't expect her to be your wife. She looks- “I’ll get in touch with your manager later. You will have to say goodbye to your job,” Diego said, with his eyes laced on her. Maria shuddered with fear. Her once imposing smile turned to a defeated whimper. “Apologize to Mrs Montenegro immediately and do it properly!” Diego comman
SAVANNAH'S POVThe lady in the painting wore a flowery pink dress, the same dress I had worn five years ago. But how? She looked exactly like me and it couldn't be a coincidence. How did Diego know this? Was he hiding something? My mind bugged with questions. Maybe I should ask him—or maybe not. He may just treat me as coldly as the previous night but I was bound to find out with or without his help.Just then, Tara tapped me from behind and I turned.“It's almost 1pm ma’am. It's time for you to go shopping,” Tara said loudly.“So we're going by the clock now?” I muttered to myself, almost burying my face in my palms. However, her hands were stretched towards me and a black card lay hanging between her fingers. “Mr Diego dropped this for you. It's an Infinity Card only owned by the Montenegros. You can use it to buy whatever you want at the store,” she revealed.I had heard of these customized cards but I had never seen one up close. I took the card from her, observing it. It was bl
SAVANNAH’S POV The morning sun invaded the room, some of it spilling on my face. My hands grazed the bed and I realised there was no one there. He was gone. Did he really hate me that much? To want to leave before I even wake up. But why did I care? I never wanted to marry him anyway. I rolled out of bed lazily, navigating the room as I didn't get the chance to observe it properly the previous evening. I walked with a yawn towards the large window, yanking the curtain wide open. My lips cracked open with a smile because the view from up here was magnificent. I could see far into the bustling city and for a moment, I forgot my problems. While in thoughts, I heard a knock on the door and a lady rushed in, bowing. Her fingers squeezed her black on white uniform tight. “Good morning ma’am. I'm Tara the head housekeeper, and Mr Diego asked that I show you how things work around here,” she said calmly. I stared at Tara blankly for seconds. I wasn't used to being waited on. My morni
DIEGO'S POV I longed to make beautiful babies with this woman as quickly as possible. Babies with her eyes, her hair and her skin. I wanted us to spend the rest of our days together. I loved her. I had loved her since that day—the day at the masked party five years ago. I remember the first time my eyes fell on her; she stood at a corner confused and innocent. She was too charming for me to resist, even though I hadn't seen her face at first. We spent the night outside, away from the party, under the moonlight. She told me soothing stories. She made me feel the best version of myself. For the first time in my life, I could let go of my terrible past and focus on what was in front of me. I knew I wanted her near. I still have her mask—a white sparkling mask. She lost it while running back home. Since then, I vowed to find her and protect her. I waited for this day—a day to finally make her mine. And I have succeeded. The moment she stepped into the wedding hall, I could sens
