Chapter 40

Emelia Pov

“I think the name of the person is… Her name is… Ah! Melanie Foster!”

My head snapped toward Miss Clara like someone had yanked my spine straight.

Melanie Foster?

“Miss Clara, can you repeat her name?” I asked, my voice steady but cold, “Did you just say Melanie Foster?”

She nodded, eyes wide with guilt and fear. The moment felt slow and sharp, like reality slicing through fog.

I turned slightly, catching Mr. Mike’s gaze. He was already staring at me, his brows furrowed. He had clearly recognized the name too. I lowered my eyes and bit lightly on my fingernail, the gears in my head spinning faster than ever.

So that’s what it was.

Melanie hadn’t even enrolled yet, but she’d planted the seeds. It all made sense now. The scandal, the rumors, the accusations of cheating. It was never about us.

It was about setting the stage.

If Class Eight had been found guilty of cheating, the school would be looking for a replacement student, someone “clean,” smart, well-mannere

Chapter 48 Emelia’s Pov “Emelia? What are you doing here?” She inquired. “What does a person do in a café? Steal books?” I replied sarcastically, making her blush. “You know that's not what I mean.” She muttered under her breath, and I smiled. “I've been to this place a lot but I have never seen you here.” I leaned forward, staring at her. Jasmine had lost a lot of weight, she was very cute previously but now… Her beautifully curved chin was beginning to show, and her eyes looked more narrowed. She is going to be a beauty, and for some reason, she resembled someone I've seen but I couldn't place a finger on where I had seen her face. “Ah… My parents actually own this place. I didn't have school today so I came out to help.” I blinked at her, slightly surprised, “Wait… Your parents own this place?”Jasmine nodded with a shy smile, wiping her hands on the apron tied around her waist, “Yeah. It’s been in our family for years. Just a small local business, nothing fancy.”I leaned b

Chapter 47Emelia’s Pov “Thank you Nora, your words are proof enough.” I shifted away from Nora, bringing my hands forward and waving the phone that was in my hand. “What…” Her eyes went to my phone, “What are you talking about?” I shrugged, “Well… While you were speaking, I had placed a call to someone to listen to what you had to say. Although I was a bit skeptical if the person was going to pick up, and I planned on recording your words if he didn't, in the end, my initial plan worked.” “You…” Nora’s voice faltered as she stared at the phone in my hand. Her face had gone pale, her lips parted in horror. Her trembling hand reached out, as if she could somehow undo the last few minutes, “W… Who was on the phone? Who were you talking to?!”I tilted my head, letting a slow, cold smile tug at my lips.“Why don’t you take a guess?” I said sweetly. From the phone still in my hand, faint but unmistakable, there was the sound of breathing. Heavy, deliberate, angry. Nora’s pupils shrank

Chapter 46 Emelia’s Pov I rushed outside, running to the ladies toilet and retching the moment I was there. I vomited until I could not feel anything in my stomach. My legs were shaking. My fingers gripped the cold edge of the sink as I leaned over it, gasping for breath. The bitter taste of bile lingered in my throat, but it wasn’t just nausea. It was disgusting. Not what he said, and it was not at the way he’d cried, begged, or knelt. It was him, his very existence. Seeing Liam, that Liam, on his knees like that made something inside me twist. The sound of his voice begging for my forgiveness echoed in my skull. It wasn’t remorse that filled me, it was a sickness. A crawling, suffocating revulsion that wrapped around my chest and squeezed. I splashed water on my face, the cold shock doing nothing to soothe the storm inside me. I stared at myself in the mirror. My reflection stared back, pale and drawn. My eyes, bloodshot. My lips were cracked.“You should feel vindicated.” I whis

Chapter 45Liam's Pov “I’m sorry.” I said, voice breaking, “I’m so sorry. I’ll say it a thousand times if you want. I’ll scream it until my voice gives out. I was wrong. I should’ve trusted you. I should’ve stood beside you, not condemned you. Please forgive me.”I bowed my head, my forehead nearly touching the floor. The whole place was silent, nothing was said, and Emelia only stood there, still as a statue. After a long moment, she laughed, it was a cold and bitter sound. I slowly lifted my head to take a look at her, and in her eyes was exhaustion, anger. Like she had carried this burden for too long and was done fighting.“Forgiveness?” She scoffed, “You want my forgiveness now?”Her words hit harder than a slap.“I… Yes, Emelia. I know it won’t fix everything but…”She pulled her arm away from my grip. I let her go, heart twisting painfully in my chest. She looked at me, then around at the others, at my parents, Jeremy, Damien, and finally Nora.Amelia stepped forward, the corn

Chapter 44 Liam's Pov A sharp gasp tore from my lips as I jerked upright, heart pounding so hard it felt like my ribs might crack from the inside. My chest rose and fell in quick, ragged breaths. Cold sweat clung to my skin like glue. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t think.Where was I?The room around me swam in and out of focus. A soft beeping echoed faintly nearby. Blinding white light filtered in through curtains drawn halfway open. The sterile scent of antiseptic hit my nose, confirming what my blurry eyes were struggling to register.Hospital.I was in a hospital.Again.I looked down, an IV was taped to my arm, my legs covered with a blanket. My head throbbed violently, like someone was pounding a hammer against the inside of my skull. The pain was sharp. Raw.And then, it hit me.Nora. Emelia. The video. Everything came rushing back like a wave slamming into the shore. My confrontation with Nora. Her shaking lies. Emelia’s cold, tired voice. The truth. How I had fainted. What

Chapter 43 Liam's Pov “This… Is this real?” Jeremy questioned, his eyes wide. He took the phone from me and replayed it, her scream echoing in the house over and over and over again, haunting my brain. I stumbled, falling to the ground. Emelia’s tears as she begged, saying she didn't push me continued to appear in my mind, how she knelt on the ground in the cold trying to please me. Eventually, she stopped begging and just accepted my blame. Despite my bullying, she didn't stop trying to help me, but I never… I clenched my fists, shame falling on me. “But you said she was the one who pushed you! You said you felt her push you, how could it be that…” “The truth is, I never felt anything. After I fell and went unconscious, I didn't remember anything from the fall. Then Nora told me that she had actually seen Emelia push me, she also showed me the video. I was so angry and bitter that I went along with what Nora had said that I…” “Wait, did you say that Nora was the one who told you

Chapter 42 Liam's Pov “Hey, that's him right?” “He came for another session today.” “It's been spread everywhere, do you think he has seen it?” I glanced around, confused as to why everyone was staring at me and murmuring. I was able to make out a few words from what they were saying but it made me even more confused. Ignoring them, I made my way to the doctor's office when I saw a nurse I knew, she looked surprised to see me. “Elena.” I greeted, “Do you have any idea why everyone is staring at me? I don't understand.” It wasn't my first time here and I was no longer a celebrity so there was no need to be shocked if they saw me. “You… You haven't seen the video?” I frowned, “What video?” She looked conflicted, like she didn't want to say anything. “Tell me.” I pressed, “What video are you talking about?” “It's… The video of you falling down the stairs.” “The video of me… Ah, that one. I had already seen it before, my younger sister had pushed me down the stairs. It went vi

Chapter 41 Nora's Pov I slammed the bathroom stall door shut so hard the hinges rattled, “Stupid, stupid, stupid!” I hissed, yanking off a paper towel from the dispenser and hurling it across the room. How dare they? How dare everyone look at me like I was the liar? Like I had made it all up? After we went back to class, they had pointed at me, saying that I didn't actually see any test papers and I was just making it all up because I was jealous! Me?! How could I be jealous?! “Arghh!” I slammed my hands on the table, not even registering the pain that shoe through my palms. First, that wretched Class Eight scored higher than anyone expected. Then the Dean humiliated Mrs. Annette in front of the whole school like she was just some janitor who'd stolen lunch money. And now, now people were saying I was part of the scheme?I clenched my fists so hard my nails dug into my palms. And as if it couldn’t get worse, Emelia’s class, Emelia of all people, was now on par with Class One and s
