300: IM NOT CALM.

last update Last Updated: 2025-11-10 23:59:26

ELARA’S POV

Nate helps me back to my seat by the island, his hand warm around mine while my heart pounds so fast it drowns out every other sound.

Nicolas has been sending me flowers.

Not threats. Not bloody letters… freaking Flowers!

My favorite kind, with those sweet little notes tucked inside.

What is he doing this time? What’s he trying to say?

The room feels colder than it should. The silence presses against my skin. I pull my knees up to my chest on the couch, fingers locking so tight they start to hurt. Every time I blink, I see the roses again the handwriting that wasn’t Nate’s , but still felt like his.

How could I be so dumb. How did I not notice?

Nate kneels in front of me, his tone calm, steady, unshaken. “Elara. Breathe.”

“I am,” I whisper, but even I can hear the lie in my voice.

His hand covers mine, strong and grounding. “Look at me.”

I do. And for one small second, it almost feels like I’m standing still again. His calm doesn’t erase the panic, but it keeps me from ti

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    301: IT’S HAPPENING AGAIN.

ELARA’S POV Nate’s hand brushes against my cheek. “Easy,” he murmurs, a soft smile tugging at his lips. “Just wanted to adjust your head you were dozing off in the most awkward position.” “I wasn’t asleep,” I mumble, voice thick with denial. “Sure you weren’t,” he teases quietly. “You even drooled a little.” My eyes widen. “I did not.” He chuckles. “You did. Just a little. Kind of cute, though.” I groan and push his hand away, but the sound of his laughter, melts something tight inside my chest. For a moment, it almost feels like the world isn’t closing in on me. Almost. When his phone buzzes again, the air shifts. His smile fades. “I need to take this,” he says, standing. “Chris must’ve found something” I nod and watch him walk toward the hallway, his voice already dropping to that sharp, commanding tone again. The silence that follows feels too still. Too careful. I stand slowly. My body feels heavier than it should, my lower abdomen tugging with a dull, persist

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    299: THE RIGHT CHOICE.

ELARA’S POV “You should probably change into something casual,” he adds, glancing at my silk nightgown. “We leave in less than an hour if you want to sort some things in—” “I’m not going to work today.” I hate how my voice cracked when I finally said it. “Kyle can handle things for a little longer.” I’d decided this the moment I sent that text to Kyle earlier, but instead of relief… I feel something totally different. For a split second, relief flashes across his face before he masks it. His shoulders loosen, his jaw unclenches. “El, if this is because of what I said last night—” “It’s not.” My voice breaks slightly, but I push through it. “You were right. Things could get bad. And I can’t keep pretending that I’m immune to the danger. If I want us to work, I need to trust you. Trust us.” He walks around the counter, stopping in front of me. His brows are drawn tight, like he’s not sure if he should believe me. “Don’t look so shocked.” I look away, not wanting him to

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    298: I THINK I’M HEARING THINGS

ELARA’S POV Morning comes too soon. The first thing I notice isn’t the sunlight, but the silence. Not the heavy, suffocating kind from last night, but the fragile quiet that comes after too many words and not enough healing. Nate’s side of the bed is empty, but the sheets are still warm. For a moment, I just stare at the faint dent where his body used to be. My chest tightens. He didn’t sleep much; I could tell by the way he kept turning last night, like his thoughts wouldn’t let him rest. I push myself up slowly, wincing as a sharp sting cuts through my lower abdomen. The pain catches me off guard, enough to make me freeze and clutch my stomach. It isn’t unbearable, but it’s there a dull reminder that something inside me isn’t quite right. “Just stress,” I whisper to myself, pressing my palm against my abdomen. “It’s just stress.” It takes a minute for the ache to fade. My hands are shaky when I reach for the glass of water on the nightstand. I take slow sips, hoping

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    297: DRIFTING APART

ELARA’S POV The handle refuses to turn. I twist it harder until the metal bites into my palm. The door’s locked. “What the hell, Nate?” My voice cracks louder than I intend. “Why is my door locked?” “Because your room is here.” I spin around. He’s leaning against his doorway, sleeves rolled, jaw tight, looking far too calm for someone in his position. “You can’t be serious,” I say, my pulse thudding. “I wasn’t joking when I said there won’t be separate rooms anymore.” “The last thing I want is another argument with you, Nate.” I sigh, my hand firm on the handle. “I hate arguing too.” “Then give me the keys.” I fold my arms. My feet hurt, my back’s killing me, and I’m two seconds away from snapping. “I’m not changing my mind on this one, El.” “Then I’ll take the couch.” He exhales through his nose, stepping in front of me. “Can you move?” “Elara, don’t start this—” “I’m not starting anything. I’m trying to sleep in my own damn room but I guess it’s also

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    296: WE’RE SUPPOSED TO BE A TEAM.

ELARA’S POV I exhaled slowly. “I know what I did might seem reckless, but—” “If you knew how reckless it was,” he cut in, “you would not have done it.” “Maybe I was reckless, but I’m not built to sit and watch you handle everything alone.” His eyes met mine, cold and dark. A wave of guilt crashed over me, hot and useless. I had let impulse win! I’d hoped Jenna would give me something that made it worth it. Something that would at least to make up for a fraction of his anger. but right now I had little to nothing to show for it. “I just wanted some answers.” I stepped closer. “Answers that could have gotten you killed!” His voice sliced the air. “How many times do we need to go over how dangerous this could get, Elara? It is not just your life you are putting at risk. You have a very fragile life inside you.” As much as I wanted to retort, I did not. He was angry, and he had every right to be. “I know it is hard for you to sit back and let me handle things after everyth
