Aaron hated being summoned, especially like this. The message had been blunt and urgent: Come see me. Immediately. No explanations, no delays. When it was from his grandfather, it was never a request.

Edward Blackwood didn’t look up as Aaron entered. He finished signing a document, closed the file, then finally looked up. "Aaron.”

“Grandfather.”

“Sit.”

Aaron obeyed. Edward slid a tablet across the desk.

“Look."

Reluctantly, Aaron picked it up. Photos—Elara leaving boutiques, emerging from salons, standing taller than ever before. The comments weren’t all cruel anymore—some curious, some even approving. But then came the rumors. His jaw clenched.

“I’ve seen it.”

“I assumed you had,” Edward replied calmly.

A pause.

“And yet, it continues.”

“It will fade.”

“No,” Edward said firmly. “It will evolve.”

Silence.

“You're underestimating this.”

“I’m managing it.”

“You’re ignoring it.”

That hit. Edward leaned back slightly.

“There's a charity gala tonight.”

Aaron already knew—glamorous, media frenzy, unavoidable.

“I expect you to attend,” Edward continued. "With your wife.”

Aaron’s expression stayed controlled. He had already planned to go with Elena.

“That won’t change anything.”

“It will if you act like a husband.”

Silence stretched.

“You will not stand beside her like she’s a burden,” Edward added. "You will present a united front.”

Aaron exhaled slowly.

“And if I don’t?”

Edward’s gaze didn’t waver.

“You will.”

——

Back at the mansion, Elara was in the sitting room when Aaron returned. This time, she wasn’t lost in thought; she was reading—calm, composed, present.

Aaron paused in the doorway, watching her. Something about her still felt unfamiliar.

“Elara.”

She looked up.

"There’s a Charity gala tonight.”

Her fingers stiffened in response.

Of course. Public. Eyes. Judgment.

“I need you to attend.”

Not a request.

She held his gaze for a moment, expected hesitation, fear—yet responded simply, "Okay."

Steady. Unresisting. Accepting.

That unsettled him.

“You understand what this means,” he said. "People will be watching.”

“They always are," she replied, her voice steady.

He studied her longer. "I’ll have someone send details.”

He turned to leave, then added sharply, "Make sure you’re presentable."

Elara watched him go—silent, composed.

Later that evening, she stood before her mirror. The gala loomed—her chest tightening, fears stirring, but she was stronger than before.

She grabbed her phone to call Maya.

“I need you,” she said the moment her friend answered.

“What did he do this time?" Maya snapped.

"Nothing, Maya. Not yet. I have a gala to attend, and I don’t know what to wear or how to act."

Without hesitation, Maya answered, "I’m coming."

Preparations were deliberate. Maya arrived full of energy, Zara soon followed—uninvited, but welcomed.

“Alright,” Zara said, scanning Elara. “We’re not playing safe.”

Maya grinned. "Not today.”

Options—textures, shapes that embraced instead of concealed—laid out before her. Elara hesitated, then chose.

The dress was deep emerald—bold, striking, impossible to ignore. It hugged her curves, cinched at the waist, flowing over her hips. The neckline was elegant, framing her collarbone without trying too hard—no hiding, no drowning in fabric—just presence.

Her hair fell in soft waves, her makeup subtle but intentional, lips soft, eyes defined just enough.

When she finally faced the mirror—Maya’s reaction was instant.

“Wow.”

Zara nodded slowly.

“There you are.”

Elara looked at herself—sometimes, she didn’t recognize the girl staring back. Not because she had changed, but because she had finally allowed herself to be seen.

Aaron's car arrived at the entrance first—lights flashing, voices murmuring. Aaron stepped out—composed, impeccable. Adjusted his cuff, ready for the spotlight. He stood outside waiting for Elara’s car. They had come separately.

Then Elara's car arrived.

A pause.

Elara stepped out.

Time slowed. Aaron’s expression hardened—stilled, eyes scanning her. The dress, her poise, her confidence—all of it. She carried herself like she belonged.

He didn’t speak. Didn’t move.

For the first time, Aaron Blackwood was speechless—just for a moment. Undeniably.

Elara caught his gaze—a flicker in her eyes, gone almost instantly. She placed her hand in his extended hand—calm, composed, unfazed.

That unshakable quiet unsettled him more.

Cameras flashed. Whispers followed, but not mocking—something else. "They look… good together." "Is that really her?" "I didn’t expect that..."

Neither reacted.

Inside, the room buzzed with understated energy. She felt it—and this time, she didn’t shrink, didn’t hide. She walked, breathed, stood confidently—as if she belonged.

Across the room, Elena watched, her expression cracking slightly—because this isn’t the Elara she underestimated anymore. And that made her dangerous.

Aaron felt it too—that everything had shifted. Not just in her, but in the world’s perception. For reasons he couldn’t explain, he hated that he hadn’t noticed it first.

The tabloid photo dropped like a bomb two days later. Elara had taken Axel to the park for fresh air, wearing loose comfortable clothes that accommodated her bump. A hidden photographer captured her looking tired, adjusting Axel’s jacket. The headline screamed across her feed: “BILLIONAIRE’S WIFE LETS HERSELF GO—AGAIN. Is Another Baby Too Much for Elara Blackwood?”“Second kid now. She's really locked him in.”“Used to think she was brave. Now she's just lazy.”“The billionaire and the plus-size bride, part two. When does the divorce happen?”Comments flooded in, vicious and familiar. “She’s trapping him with kids.” “He deserves better than that.” “Remember when she played the victim? Now she’s just lazy and entitled.” Each word sliced into old wounds—the body shaming from their early marriage, the rejection that had nearly broken her. Tears stung her eyes as she read them in secret, not wanting to burden Aaron. She tried hiding it, deleting notifications, focusing on Axel who sensed

The press conference announcement hit Elara while she folded laundry in the nursery. Blackwood Holdings’ major tech partnership with Hadid Industries—Zara’s family expansion—meant stability, growth, a cleaner legacy for their children. She tuned into the livestream on her tablet, pride swelling as Aaron appeared on screen, commanding and composed. Daniel stood beside him, loyal as ever. Then Camilla Carrington Cross stepped into frame. The woman was everything the tabloids once said Elara wasn’t: polished, slender, radiating confidence at twenty-eight. She shook Aaron’s hand, holding it a beat too long, her smile sharp and intimate. “I’m thrilled to partner with a man of your vision, Mr. Blackwood. Together, we’ll redefine what’s possible.”Elara’s chest tightened. Pregnancy hormones, she told herself firmly, rubbing her belly. But the unease dug deeper. Camilla’s eyes held something calculated, a hunger that went beyond business. Elara paused to think, eyes trained on the woman’s fac

FOUR YEARS LATERElara woke to the familiar weight of Aaron’s arm around her waist, his hand resting protectively over the swell of her belly. At twenty-eight weeks pregnant with their second child, every movement reminded her how fragile this peace felt. She shifted carefully, not wanting to wake him, but his grip tightened immediately. Even in sleep, he held on like she might vanish.“Stay,” he murmured against her hair, voice rough.“I need to check on Axel,” she whispered back, but she lingered, letting his warmth chase away the exhaustion that had settled into her bones these past months. Four years since their Italian wedding, and the love between them had deepened into something fierce and tested. Yet lately, the weight of carrying another Blackwood heir pressed on her more than just physically. She feared failing him again, feared the world outside their estate that still judged her for not being the polished wife they expected.Axel’s small footsteps padded down the hall. “Mo

Three Months Later The late morning sun bathed the winding countryside road in golden light as Aaron drove their sleek black SUV along the private lane lined with ancient oak trees. Elara sat in the passenger seat, cradling their three-month-old son, Axel Reid Blackwood, against her chest. The baby was bundled in a soft blue blanket, his tiny fist curled around one of Elara’s fingers as he slept peacefully. At nine months pregnant with their first child, Elara had been radiant; now, as a new mother, her plus-sized body carried the beautiful evidence of motherhood—fuller curves, softer rolls, and a quiet strength that made Aaron fall in love with her all over again every single day. “Where are we going?” Elara asked for the fifth time, laughing softly. Her free hand rested on Aaron’s thigh, squeezing gently. “You’ve been mysterious all morning—” Aaron chuckled, covering her hand with his. “Patience, my love. You’ll see soon enough. It’s a surprise.” He glanced over at her, his dar

Two Months Later The sunlit garden of the mansion had been transformed into a beautiful, intimate baby shower. Maya and Zara had taken charge of most of the planning, roping Aaron in for the final touches. The three of them had spent secret evenings in the study finalizing details — soft pastel balloons, a table laden with Elara’s favorite snacks (spicy mango pickles prominently featured), and games that celebrated the surprise they had all agreed to keep: the baby’s gender. “We’re not finding out,” Aaron had said firmly during their last planning session. “Elara wants it to be a surprise for everyone. We’ve waited this long… what’s a few more weeks?” Maya and Zara had exchanged knowing smiles. “Romantic as always,” Zara teased. Now, the garden buzzed with warmth. Aaron’s grandfather Edward sat proudly in a cushioned chair, cane resting beside him. Elara’s father Thomas stood nearby, looking emotional as he chatted with Aaron’s executive assistant Daniel and a handful of close
