(Elena POV)

By late afternoon, the mansion filled with tension so thick it felt like smoke.

Men walked fast. Phones rang endlessly. Damian barked orders in low, deadly tones.

Whatever Anton had done… it wasn’t small. Who really is this guy and why is everyone running like headless chicken because of him.

I sat on the staircase, unnoticed, until I caught Damian’s voice erupting from his office.

“—don’t lie to me. He was in my city. That means someone gave him access.”

A deep voice responded through the phone speaker, muffled but angry.

“We’re dealing with a ghost, Blackwood. Anton moves silently.”

“He doesn’t move silently,” Damian spat.

“He moves with permission.”

Silence.

I inched closer.

Damian slammed his hand on the desk.

“Someone is betraying me.”

My heart jumped.

A traitor?

Inside his circle?

“Strengthen surveillance. Freeze accounts. I want every border checkpoint monitored. If Varesco breathes in my territory, I want to know.”

He hung up and finally noticed me.

(Elena POV)I carried the documents to Damian’s office, my heart pounding so loudly it drowned out my thoughts. He was on the phone, issuing orders, fury dripping from each word.“No one gets in or out without my authorization—”“Damian,” I interrupted, voice shaking, “we need to talk.”He froze at the sight of the papers in my hand. So he knows what I’m holding, I thought“Elena.”His voice dropped. “Put those down.” He looked that he had seen a ghost and he just kept on looking at the folder.“No,” I said, surprising us both. “Tell me the truth.”He closed the distance between us with slow, controlled steps. Stand your ground Elena, I said to myself as he drew closer.“That folder is not for your eyes.”“But it’s about my father!” I snapped, tears burning my eyes. “And you. And debts. And destruction.”His expression tightened painfully.“Elena, listen—”“Did you ruin my family?”My voice cracked on the last word. His silence was sharp. Cutting.“Tell me!” I begged.“Elena,” he sa

(Elena POV)Later that evening, Noah guided me to the guest lounge while Damian handled “internal matters.”Which I assumed meant interrogations, threats, or worse.I wandered into a nearby study—just to escape my thoughts—and that’s when I saw it.A folder.Black. Unlabeled.Resting on the desk like it wanted me to find it.Something tugged at me. Familiarity?Or fear?I opened it.The first page hit me like a truck.“Lawson Debt Agreement — Blackwood Industries.”My father’s name.Damian’s signature.Dates that made no sense.“No…” I choked. The documents detailed financial pressure, default notices, corporate buyouts… and losses my father never told me about. To me, it looked like proof—proof that Damian destroyed my father’s business. My breathing hitched.A shadow fell across the table.I turned to see a man I didn’t recognize leaning against the doorway.“Well,” he said smoothly, “looks like you found the truth.”My chest tightened. “Who are you?”He smirked.“Someone who cares

The next morning, I overheard Damian arguing with someone on the phone.“She is not part of this,” he hissed. “Don’t involve her. I’ll handle Anton myself.”Anton.The name sliced through me.Who was he?Why was he targeting Damian? Why was I involved?Later that afternoon, I entered Damian’s office without knocking.“Who is Anton?”He stiffened. “That’s none of your—”“No,” I snapped, surprising myself. “I deserve to know.”He approached slowly, like a predator cornering prey.“Anton Varesco is a man who wants to destroy me,” he said simply. Destroy you? Why?“And he will use anything. Anyone.”He paused.“Especially you.”My blood ran cold.“But why me?” I whispered.Damian looked at me with something raw in his eyes.“Because taking you hurts me the most.”I swallowed. “He kidnapped those men last night because of me?”He didn’t deny it.“Damian… this is insane.”“No,” he said softly. “It’s war.”His hand hovered inches from my cheek…but he didn’t touch me.“Stay close to me,

By evening, Damian announced we would attend another event. “Another gala?” I groaned.“No,” he said, adjusting his cufflinks, “a private dinner. Investors.”“Do I have a choice?” is that even supposed to be a question Elena? He looked at me like the question amused him. “No.”He dressed me himself — NOT touching me, but choosing the dress, the shoes, and the necklace.A man who didn’t need to touch to control. Now that is definitely sexy.At the dinner, everything was stiff and cold, nobody said a word, it was if everyone was being on high alert and careful, but… careful of what? I was in my own bubble until an older man approached me, too close. Umm… doesn’t this guy know anything about personal space?“Beautiful bride,” he slurred, “your husband is a lucky man.” Phew, breath mint maybe. Before I could step back, Damian was already there. His hand slid around my waist, possessive. “Touch her again, and I’ll remove the hand you used.”The man backed away instantly.“Damian—” I whi

I tried leaving the mansion by noon.I made it as far as the front door before Christopher blocked me. Shit, I’ve been caught.“Orders, ma’am.”“From who?” I demanded. He looked at me flatly. “My boss. Your husband.”The word husband felt like a slap.Damian showed up minutes later, eyes cold, aura sharp. Holy shit, when did he get here, do they have this physic connection.“Elena, I told you: you don’t go anywhere without protection.” He said“I’m not a child!”“No,” he said softly, “you’re worse. You’re a target.”I froze. A target? Target for what?He stepped closer, his voice dropping dangerously, “last night wasn’t random. Those men weren’t simply drunk. They were testing my boundaries.”“Boundaries?”“Touch you… and see what I’d do.” I am not going to lie, that was kind of hot, snap out of it Elena, we are supposed to be pissed. His eyes darkened.“And I did exactly what they wanted to see.”“What does that mean?” I whispered.“It means this isn’t about you being my bride, Elena
