“Mommy, look! Mr Alexander has a swimming pool inside his house!”

I closed my eyes, attempting to stop the tears from falling as Noah’s delighted voice resonated through the marble-floored apartment.

"God!, what is this?"

“Mommy, can I swim later? Please?” Noah grabbed at my scrub top, his large steel-grey eyes brimming with hope that I will consent.

Before I could speak, Alexander’s booming voice came in from behind us. “Of course, you can swim later, Son. I’ll have my workers prepare the pool for you.”

I turned swiftly, gazing at him. He stood there in his perfect black suit, tie unfastened, sleeves pushed up to display his powerful forearms. His hair was ruffled like he’d rubbed his fingers through it in fury.

“What is this, Alexander?” I snapped, my voice shaking with wrath. “You think trapping us here is the solution?”

He lifted a brow, his eyes calm and impenetrable. “I think protecting my son is the solution.”
