Chapter 115: Selfish

My blood froze as I let the hand holding the phone fall.

Les must have sensed the change in my demeanour because he approached me with concern in his observing eyes. “What's wrong?”

My gaze slid to him, and I opened my mouth to speak but couldn't. All I knew was that my heart was beating faster than I could think. All of a sudden, my mouth goes dry, and Les had to immediately find me a chair to sit on.

By now, everyone else had caught on to the fact that something was wrong and were approaching with a mixture of concern and confusion on their faces. Someone somewhere turned off the music, which made me both grateful and, at the same time, embarrassed.

In a matter of minutes, my friends and family surrounded me while I tried to catch my breath and still my racing heart. I didn't even know when Les took my hand in his and was now rubbing soothing circles on it.
