Mary stood outside the gate of Harrington’s mansion, feeling very much like a fish out of water. She had no idea where she should go. And it didn’t help that it was still the early hours of the morning and there was no movement.

She looked sideways; the houses surrounding her looked a little strange to her. It was the first time she had come out of the house since she got married, and she didn’t know anywhere else.

She decided to go to the right. I mean, right is literally right. Nothing can go wrong with that. She hitched her bag high up on her shoulders, clutching it like her life depended on it, and Mary began to walk the quiet toad.

It was a little before 5, hence the reason why it was still lonely. People were still waking up from their beds. She walked down the street with no sense of direction, hoping to see someone she knew.
