ALEXANDER’S POV

I walk back inside, basking in the rosy smell of her perfume and cherishing the moments with her and the children until Sophia ruined it all.

I can hear the distant echo of the children’s footsteps and laughter upstairs. That alone calms me for a beat— at least they’re fine. At least they didn’t have to see that little showdown in the hallway.

But then I see Sophia.

Sitting there like she belongs, one leg crossed over the other, draped on my couch— the cream one Emma helped me pick while she was the children’s nanny. She’s scrolling through her phone, pretending to be unbothered, like she didn’t just throw a grenade into the middle of my morning.

I stop at the edge of the living room.

“What the hell was that?” I ask.

She glances up, feigning innocence. “What was what?”

I take a step forward. “Whatever it is you were saying to Emma before I came down. Don’t lie to me, Sophia.”

Her lips curl into a smirk. “Oh, Alexander. You’re taking things far too seriously. We were ju

EMMA’S POVThe house smells faintly of vanilla and fresh laundry, sunlight slipping through the long curtains in soft and uneven stripes. The maid didn’t hold back in thoroughly cleaning.Alex’s voice comes through the phone, low and rough. I’m sure he hasn’t slept in days. “They’re stabilizing him for now,” he says. “Grandpa’s conscious but weak. The doctors say it’s mostly exhaustion.”I press the phone to my ear, glancing toward the living room where the children sit cross-legged on the carpet, heads bent over their puzzles. “And you? Have you eaten?”He lets out a tired laugh. “That’s a dangerous question, Emma.”I smile softly, even though he can’t see it. “That’s not an answer.”“I will. I promise.” There’s a pause, a long one. I can hear distant hospital sounds, the squeak of shoes on linoleum, a machine beeping. “How are the kids?”“Good,” I say, watching Bernice hand a puzzle piece to Bernard. “They’ve been calmer since the call this morning. I told them Grandpa will be fine.

EMMA’S POVAlex swallows, still processing it. “They’re coming back. Grandpa’s sick.”The room goes still. Even I am stunned. The air seems to fold into itself. The grandparents are coming back. The people who could unravel everything.Alex stands there for a few seconds too long, his phone hanging loose in his hand, his shoulders tense. He doesn’t look at me. He stares at the floor like he’s trying to breathe through a storm he didn’t see coming.Stephen clears his throat. “So… when are they coming back?”Alex nods once, jaw tight. “Tomorrow or next. Grandpa’s not doing so well from the tone of her voice.”I can feel my heartbeat echoing against my ribs. Tomorrow. Or one more day. That’s all it takes for everything we’ve been trying to rebuild to crumble again.I force myself to speak, though my voice sounds distant. “Does that mean being the nanny isn’t going to work anymore?”Alex looks at me. It feels like he wants to say something but can’t find the words. He glances at Stephen i

ALEXANDER’S POVI slowly walk past the kids’ room.I can hear them giggling before I get to the door. When I lean a little closer, Emma’s soft voice comes through. “That one’s a castle?” she asks, pointing at one of Bernard’s drawings.“It’s not just a castle,” Bernard says proudly. “It’s our house. And that’s Daddy.”Emma laughs. “Oh really? He’s taller than the castle.”“Because Daddy’s strong,” Bernice says, eyes wide and serious. “He fights dragons.”I can’t help the smile that pulls at my lips.Emma’s sitting cross-legged on the floor beside them, her hair tied loosely at the back, a few strands brushing her cheek as she bends to look at their drawings. The twins are talking over each other, and she’s keeping up with both, asking questions and laughing at every tiny detail. For a moment, it’s just beautiful.Too beautiful, maybe. A picture I didn’t know I needed to see. When she glances up and catches me watching, she gives a small, soft smile.I wink at her, pretending not to no

  • The Billionaire’s Surrogate    Chapter Sixty Five

ALEXANDER’S POVThe room smells like her and the intense, passionate moment we had.Like warmth, soap, and our body scents. Emma had ground me silly with her wet pussy until I shuddered under her. She fucked me and I knew she craved me even as much as I craved her.The sheets are tangled between us, one of her legs hooked over mine, her hair spread across my arm like spilled ink. I watch her breathe slowly, her chest rising and falling against me. My hand rests at her waist, thumb tracing soft circles over her skin. I don’t want to move and I don’t even want to breathe too loud. If silence could be sacred, this would be it.Her body fits against mine like it was made to.For a long time, we don’t speak. It’s peaceful and almost unreal. Emma in my arms after the wildest months. Relief and peace hangs over me.She softly asks,“Do you still love her?”Her voice slices through the sweet silence. It takes me a second to answer.“No,” I say. And I mean it. “I don’t.”Emma shifts slightly,

EMMA’S POVBernard’s head is warm against my arm, and his tiny breath comes out in slow, sleepy puffs. The TV screen gleams with colors— bright blues and golds dancing across the room as the familiar animation plays again. Our animation. The one they made me watch over and over when I was still their nanny.“Remember this part?” Bernice giggles, her eyes glassy with sleep. “When the bunny falls in the hole?”I smile. “How could I forget? You made me watch it seventeen times.”“It’s eighteen,” Bernard mumbles, correcting me with a grin that barely opens his eyes. “Eighteen times.”I laugh quietly. “Eighteen, then.”For four-year olds, they were brilliant. Thanks to me and whoever’s the tutor at Alex’s grandparents’ house. They lean closer, Bernard’s head on my shoulder, and Bernice’s small hand tangled in mine. My heart squeezes. Everything feels too soft, too safe— like a memory I don’t want to wake up from.“I don’t wanna go back,” Bernice whispers suddenly. “Grandma’s house is borin

EMMA’S POVBy the time I pull into the driveway, the sky is already dimming. Two small bags with tangled handles sit on the passenger seat beside me. I grab them and step out of my car. The front door opens before I knock.Bernard’s voice breaks through first.“Aunty Emma!”Then Bernice follows, shrieking in her small, excited tone that always makes my chest grow warm. They rush toward me, with bright eyes and no worries.I drop the bags and kneel, letting them crash into me, both talking at once. Bernard’s saying something about how they finished their drawing and Bernice’s showing me the glitter still stuck on her fingers.“I missed you guys too,” I say, breathless and laughing. They grab the bags, unbothered by how gently they should be handled. “Are these for us?”“Of course,” I smile at them. They dart inside before I can answer again. As I walk in, the smell of coffee candies and the soft sound of classical music fills my insides.Alex is standing near the base of the staircase
