Death of the Zahan

“Can I see it? The ledger and the iPad too. I need to know how far you guys have gone in the past few days.” Dwayne did not bother going into his office first, he is mainly concerned about the company's growth since his absence.

There is a concrete reason for the companies to be entrusted under his care as the sole owner, and he needs to prove it, even to beyond.

“Here it is, sir.” It was given to him by the head of his staffs. “Just some li…”

Dwayne cut him short roughly with a hard face glare. “Your opinion is not needed as of now, let me go through these first.” His voice was bossy with no traces of friendliness in it.

The head of staffs swallowed hard into nothing, his expression is not bright as he appeared like he's under the influence of greater force.

Dwayne focused his attention on what he's going through, and soon, his face and expression darkened with his brows creased in a tight frown.

“How do I go about this poor analysis and trash you guys are giving me? What do I do with it?” Dwayne half yelled, banging the table in the process. “What is the meaning of all this trash you all are busy presenting, huh?”

This is one of the few reasons he hates leaving his things under the care of others, all in the name of staffs and workers. Just a few days of his absence, his staffs can't even prove how worthy and diligent they can be.

“We are so sorry sir, we ran out of stocks and the customers are demanding.” The head of staff, whose name is El, muttered in a pleading tone, bowing his head in the process.

“So? What if you run out of stocks? Are you not supposed to order for more?” His eyes were red with anger, breathing out invisible smokes.

“We couldn't reach them on time, they arrived very late, sir. We tried all our possible best, but they were not available.” El replied, not daring to look up to his boss.

“Is that even an excuse? What about the rest of the branches? They are also out of reach too? Or probably they run out of stocks just like you did?” He gnarled, hitting his fist on the table continuously.

“It skipped my mind, sir. We are very sorry, I promise this…” El was still staying…

The loud bang was enough to cut El short. “Shut up this very minute, El. What are you sorry about? Your incompetence to manage the company in my absence or the customers you've driven away within a short period of time?” Dwayne scowled with anger.

‘This is bad,’ He thought, fuming hard. ‘This is really bad! How do I go about this?’

Just a few days ago, Dwayne had received a call about his grandfather laying almost lifelessly and unconsciously on the hospital bed. Not one would receive that kind of news and still stay sane, most especially when the person involved has played a perfect role in your life.

Despite being busy and having tight schedule, Dwayne had made sure he squeezed himself so hard to meet up with time just to keep paying frequent visit to his grandfather.

No one would have ever expected such energetic and emotionally active man like that of Steel Zahan to fall sick, talk more of laying almost lifelessly and unconsciously on the hospital bed.

And Dwayne was among those who had least expected this to happen. Still trying to get over the news of his sick grandfather, Dwayne was struck yet with another one which hold more grief to the first news, Steel Zahan's death. His grandfather is dead. This was like a big blow to his face, he never for once, thought that man's breathing will cease and then now?

People will surely die, not just people, but every one. But he has never for once, believe his grandfather's death will come this soonest, not even in the nearest future…

________

“We can't possibly leave Megan behind, you know.” Hilary frowned deeply, showing disapproval at Dwayne's statement.

“Why that? Who will stay behind and look after the babies if she goes with us?” Dwayne argued, not buying Hilary's idea. “It doesn't seem much too proper to me, she knows nothing about him and our family in general.”

“That doesn't matter, alright?” Hilary let out a small hiss, trying not to sound angered or provoked. “Partially, she is now part of us. We aren't supposed to exclude her in some things going on around us. Besides, Elite can always look after the babies until we are back. Not like we are spending forever, or are we?”

“The more space we give her, she will feel relaxed and always imagine she belongs here, which it's far from the truth. She will be leaving in no time, don't you get?” Dwayne was getting frustrated with the ongoing disagreement. This is unlike Hilary, she is always the type who care less about others. Why now? “Why will Elite look after the babies? It's not even her job or part of it, okay?”

“Fending and looking after the babies is what we are supposed to be doing, but Megan is doing all of this on our behalf, why can't Elite also do the same for just a day?” Hilary said with a loud huff. ‘Why is Dwayne acting so inconsiderate?’

Dwayne let out a scoff, really? “It's Megan's job to do, not Elite's. The hell, she will get paid for it.” Dwayne fumed, rubbing his temple repeatedly.

Hilary twitched her nose.”She's getting paid for it, fine…” She shrugged her shoulders lightly. “If she won't be allowed to go with us for the funeral, at least, she can go to the reception with us. Or that one is also off her limit, huh?”

Dwayne sighed deeply, realizing there is nothing he will say to change Hilary's mind set. “Fine, only if she won't be sitting with us. Her seat is amongst the guest.” Dwayne muttered in a flat tone.

“The guest, Dwayne? Stop being so inconsiderate, please? She is sitting with us, can't you do this for me?!”

Dwayne groaned softly, it's of no use arguing with her in the first place, because she always has a way of turning the table against him. “Argh… Hilary!”

“Please…”

“Fine, if that's what you want.” Dwayne said lazily. “Remind me not to get in to any form of argument with you, cause I'll always lose to you at the end.”

“Aye, captain…”
