You know how sometimes life just plateaus out of nowhere.

That's what is going on with me these days.

Sure, the beach house is almost renovated and we have slowly started to plan the wedding.

But emotionally I felt numb.

It felt like I was in an aimless rat race.

It has been two weeks since we were at the bar.

When Jackson and I looked at each other and admitted that we were tired.

At that moment, I felt like Jackson Reign was saying the truth - that he was indeed tired of what was happening.

Tired of his own plotting and planning.

“Ms. Smith?”

I shook myself out of my train of thoughts and looked over at the clerk at my door. He was holding a bouquet of pink roses.

Absolutely gorgeous roses.

“Are those for me?” I asked.

I didn't remember any occasion in particular.

“Yes. They were dropped off at the reception.”

I nodded, gesturing for him to keep it on my desk.

“Does it have a note?” I asked as I got up, walking over to inspect

  • The Billionaire's Wrong Revenge: Darling, Please Come Back    140. Daddy Issues

_____...○ ○ ○ S A R A H ○ ○ ○.I rubbed my eyes, trying to chase away the tears. I was tired, but more than that, I was scared. My best friend had been going through the worst in her life for the past few years, and I did not think that was fair. She had done nothing to deserve this."You okay?"I rubbed my eyes furiously before turning to face William, and I nodded. "I'm fine. I just don't know what to do right now.""We'll figure something out."He sounded weirdly comforting, and I did not think a day would come when William Harvey, out of all the people in the world, would be the one giving me words of comfort."Why are you looking at me like that?" he asked."Like what?" I countered."Like you’re finding it impossible that I could say something like this."He shrugged, and I mirrored his motion, shrugging right back."Well, it is kind of hard to believe that you could say something like this," I said, nodding to myself, satisfied with my explanation."Now you're just e

_____...○ ○ ○ J A C K S O N ○ ○ ○.“What kind of father are you, Daniel?” I growled into the phone. Maybe I shouldn’t be doing this. Maybe I don’t even have the right. But this stupidity had dragged my wife into a crossfire she never should’ve been caught in, and that wasn’t okay with me."What on earth are you talking about, Jackson?" Daniel had the audacity to sound confused. "Is everything alright in Paris?"I gritted my teeth, and I could feel my blood boil. "You know that we are not in Paris," I told him. "You know that we are in California, and you kidnapped your own daughter. You got her kidnapped, and I know of this, and I am not going to let this off the hook."Daniel let out a humorless laugh, an almost maniacal one. He sounded like the villain of a movie - the kind who would rip your insides out if you messed with him."That's rich coming from you, Jackson Reign," he spoke in a very angry tone. "After all that you did to my daughter, you should be happy that I

_____...○ ○ ○ J A C K S O N ○ ○ ○."Whoa! This is one heck of a break." Drew stared up at the massive building in front of us. He turned to Matthews. "I did not know that you had these kinds of clients as well."Matthews gave him a look. "What is that supposed to mean?" he asked.I chuckled as Drew held up his hand in surrender. "No, I didn't mean it in a bad way. I just meant that, wow, you really are out of my league."Matthew gave him a look, not fooled by Drew's slapping words. The man seemed like someone who took his job very seriously. I could really see that this whole reality business was indeed his dream, and he had put in a lot of effort into it. It was sad that it did not go as well as he might have planned it, and I was not kidding when I said that I was willing to help. I was going to help him. He deserved to be helped."Thank you so much for doing this for us, Matthews." I pulled out my business card and gave it to him. "Call me anytime," I said."Oh, just c

  • The Billionaire's Wrong Revenge: Darling, Please Come Back    137. Someone At The Door

____...○ ○ ○ O L I V I A ○ ○ ○.I tiptoed to the kitchen. Frederick had his back to me and was busy unwrapping the food he had ordered for lunch. It was clear that someone else was also helping them from the outside and they had the key to this place, so there was no use looking for an escape. I was pretty sure that Dad would have hired someone else more experienced to make sure that everything stayed in place. So there was nothing I could think of. But what I could do was snatch Frederick’s phone, which was sitting on the kitchen aisle.“Don’t even think about it.”I froze mid step. I turned on my heels. Anderson was standing there, arms crossed across his chest. He shook his head again. I slumped my shoulders in defeat. We both looked over at Frederick, who was still humming to himself as he went about unpacking.Anderson let out a groan. “Someone could actually break in here and he still wouldn’t notice,” he said.“Well, no one can break in with you here, that’s fo

_____...○ ○ ○ J A C K S O N ○ ○ ○.This is him,” Drew said, pointing at the small office tucked into the second floor of a very shabby looking building.“Hm,” I muttered. “He’s not going to get many clients with a setup like this.”Harry nodded in agreement.Drew shrugged. “You rich people really don’t get it. Finding a decent place, especially in California, is like trying to find needle in the hay. And when you finally do? You are already knee deep in debt with no choice but to stick it out and pray the ceiling doesn’t fall on your head.”Harry and I looked at each other."Kid has a point," Harry said. And I agreed with that too.“So this Matthews. How long has he been working as a realtor?” I asked as we went into the office. There was nobody in sight.“Well, he was one of those door-to-door salespeople at some point. But he told me being a realtor was his goal, his dream. So when he won a lottery - it wasn’t a big amount, but it was enough - he used all that to set up

  • The Billionaire's Wrong Revenge: Darling, Please Come Back    135. Who Is Anderson?

_____...○ ○ ○ J A C K S O N ○ ○ ○.“Oh, we have customers?” A middle-aged woman, whom I assumed was Drew’s mother, came out of the kitchen, patting her hands dry on a dishcloth.“Uh, no, Mom,” Drew said sheepishly. “They are here to look for something in our security camera footage.”His mother’s face dropped. “Oh,” she said. “What are you looking for?”“Um… It’s just.... We are looking for somebody who stole something from us,” Harry shrugged. He looked around, his eyes landing on the huge menu board on the wall. “Oh, um… Can I have some of your noodles, maybe? I am not particularly skilled at selecting Chinese - never have been. I would love to try the chef’s special,” he said as he flashed her his annoyingly charming smile which is supposed to disarm the toughest of shields. Drew’s mother’s face lit up immediately. “Of course, of course! Drew, show them the footage. Meanwhile, I will make you my best duck noodle soup. It is my signature dish!”"That would be amazing.
