Shane’s POV

We didn’t have a second to waste. I told Martin and the nurse to pack up fast. But when I saw how slow it would be, I made the guards help them gather the few important things they could fit in their pockets. Lucy held Xandra’s hand while I checked outside through the window. The sound of the chopper blades echoed faintly in the sky. The air felt heavy. I could already feel trouble coming.

“The chopper needs to leave in a minute before they come. Or it's in vain,” one of the guards said. “Our spy is trying not to get caught.”

He was right. My eyes instinctively went to Lucy and I walked up to her.

“Move,” I said. “We’re leaving now.”

The guards opened the door, and we stepped out into the cold air. I held Lucy and Xandra’s hands running towards the chopper, guiding them. The snow made everything worse. It was heavy and the old nurse was shaking, holding a small bag to her chest. Martin helped her walk faster. Lucy kept turning her face to look at me as we hurried down the

Cole's POVShit! I failed. The boss is not going to like this. I couldn't go back to the prison to finish the work myself. The news had carried Shane's recent catastrophe and his stock market kept dropping. A lot of people had a lot to say about it, mostly bad. That was regular American folks looking for someone to blame. It was titled the unfaithful husband killing his mistress on the internet and I couldn't have asked for something better.I gave up on thinking and headed back to my house. Something felt off when I parked in and went back to shut the gates.I got in and my father saw me. “Why are you grumpy?” He asked.“The boss wants me to kill Shane,” I said.“And?” He asked.“Dad, don't act like you don't know what I am saying. I already sent some people to kill him on the inside and make it look like an accident,” I explained.“He's still alive,” my father finished. “He's strong.”“We need to get rid of the Wilsons. All of them.”“Why?” He asked.“They know everything.”“That's

Shane's POVI sat in my prison cell. I had been kept alone and it was pretty much fun. At least better than being packed with a lot of crazy folks. I must have been so happy when the door opened and a group of three men were shoved in.I ignored them and remained on my bed when I heard one cackle. “He does look fine. Do you think he'll do it?”“Who says he needs to think? He has no choice.”By now I was very attentive. This was my first time in prison and I wasn't taking my chances. I sat upright and then they smiled at me. It gave me the creeps and I started to look for a means of protection. Soon, they circled around me and I heard the security guard's voice. “Go easy on him. He's a rich one. And he's yet to get sentenced.”The laughter from the three men was ear shattering. I saw him lick his lips then blow a kiss and I understood what was going to happen.Unfortunately for them I was not the type to be pushed down easily. I got up and raised my hand. “Listen, guys. I want no issue

Cole's POVI stood in front of the glass wall, looking at Shane sitting on the other side. He acted like he owned the world, and it made me mad. "Quit being so pitiful," I told him through the phone.Shane looked back at me with cold eyes. His face was smooth like he hadn't slept a hard day in his life. "Pride comes naturally when you're smart, confident, and wealthy," he said. His voice was calm and sure.I got madder hearing him talk like that. My chest felt tight. Shane kept speaking into the phone, looking right at me through the glass. "Even if I got replaced, I still have a lot of access to my company. You should think of a better way to piss me off, Cole."I felt anger bubble up inside me. "You're a foolish narcissist," I said into the phone, trying to hurt him.Shane smirked. His smile was mean but cool. "Better to be one than a foolish police officer who wasn't smart enough to know anyone could see you get rid of a body. And it was a living one."I felt like I'd been punched

Cole’s POVI looked at my father. “The autopsy report for Melissa hasn’t been sent in yet,” I said.He opened a drawer without saying a word and pulled out a brown folder. “It’s already here,” he said, handing it to me. “I spoke to the head officer and some people in Bostow. It wasn’t easy, but I got this on a low. We’ll use it to our advantage.”I took the folder and opened it. My eyes went straight to the bold words on the top page. It was the Autopsy Results — Melissa Hugh. My heart beat faster as I read the next few lines. Then I smiled. There it was. A single line that made everything worth it. Hair samples found in Melissa Hugh’s hair and on her breast belong to Shane Wilson.I looked up at my father with a grin. “Perfect.”He didn’t smile. “Perfect? Cole, your method was stupid. It brought questions we don’t need. Everyone’s asking how Shane’s hair ended up on her body.”“I knew what I was doing,” I said calmly. “I didn’t just want him to look like the killer. I wanted him to l

Cole's POV I wore my uniform shirt and my badge. The shirt fit right. The badge felt heavy on my chest. I stepped out of the changing room. The hall smelled like soap and coffee. I smiled without thinking. Sam saw me and came over fast."Why are you all smiles?" he asked."I just feel like today will be a good day," I said. My voice felt light. I kept smiling. Sam smiled too. We walked into the office together. The lights were on. People sat at desks. The air felt warm.An officer walked by and handed Sam a stack of files. Sam took them and looked down. I was curious. I always looked at Sam's work. We shared things. We told each other everything. I leaned a little so I could see the top paper.Sam saw me looking and he moved the files. He moved them away like he was hiding them. I laughed and reached out for the papers. Sam moved his hand and pulled the stack back."Why are you hiding the file from me?" I asked playfully.Sam did not play. He looked serious. "It is nothing. Just a sm

Caleb's POV“Hey, sleepyhead,” he said with that smirk that always made my stomach twist. “You’re awake.”I swallowed hard, my mouth dry. My brain screamed for me to look away, but my eyes didn’t listen. I caught myself staring at the tattoos on his chest and arms—lines, symbols, words. I didn’t even realize my mouth had dropped open a little until he laughed.“Are you done staring, or should I flex it for you?” he teased.I blinked fast. “What? No—I wasn’t staring!”He raised a brow, clearly enjoying this.“I was just… trying to figure out your tattoos,” I lied quickly. “Yeah, that’s it. What do they mean?”For a second, something in his eyes dimmed. Like he’d hoped I was checking him out for real. Then he shrugged and came closer, setting the tray down beside me.“Some of them,” he said, tapping his shoulder, “are marks of what I used to be. This one means I’ve got a body count of over a hundred.”I froze. “What?”He smiled like it was no big deal. “A hundred people. Give or take.”
