Chapter 5

- Two weeks later

I wore my dark shades once again before alighting my car and locking the door, making my way into the company and into the elevator almost immediately.

It was some minutes after ten am on a Monday morning, the date my dad had scheduled for me to meet my future wife. My dad and cousin were going to be in the meeting as well, while the girl I was getting married to would be coming with her dad– the owner of the company that was going to get us out of our debts, and one more person so we can all sign the contracts with a witness on both sides.

I got out of the elevator and into the conference room, my dad and cousin already present- as expected.

“I just knew you were going to be late.” My dad drawled out as I sank into the seat on his right hand side.

“Good morning dad.” I murmured, completely letting his comment about my tardiness fly past me..

“Morning son,” He replied immediately and I rolled my eyes behind my shades.

“Good morning dear cousin.” My cousin sang out from his position on the left hand side of my dad and I pursed my lips in irritation, forcing the words threatening to fly out my mouth at him back down.

“Eric,” I acknowledged with a nod of my head to spite him, whipping out my phone in the next moment and dismissing him immediately.

The phone beside my dad rang and he answered it instantly and listened for a few seconds before gushing out, “Show them in right away.”

I puffed out a deep breath, this was it, I’m finally going to meet the girl I’m sure I’d never be able to get it up for but would be getting married to anyways.

The door got pulled open and we all got to our feet as the guests made their way into the conference room, a girl’s heels loudly clicking on the floor as they got closer to the large table. I glanced pointedly at my clasped fingers, still not ready to see what she looked like.

My dad started welcoming them with my cousin jumping in right after him. I quickly tried to calm my fast beating heart as I slowly glanced up from my clasped hand.

“This is my son, Nathaniel.” I heard my dad call out and I glanced up instantly, stretching my hand out for the owner of our former rivalry company.

“Hello sir,” I murmured, breaking the handshake almost immediately.

“And this is his daughter, Marie, whom you’d be getting married to.”

I glanced at Maria and quickly shook hands with her, murmuring a quiet hello to her as well. She looked like every other female; long hair, cute face, tits, hips, bleh.

“Oh and that’s her elder brother, Michael.” I glanced towards where my dad pointed and felt my throat clogged up instantly, feeling like I suddenly got doused with tiny sprinkles of ice when I least expected it.

Michael-

Michael was jack?

The man whom I had cut all ties with was Maria’s brother...

My head started to spin.

I didn’t stretch my hand out for a handshake, and neither did he. He just kept staring at me, an unknown expression crossing his face right before he averted his gaze.

Wait a sec...

Jack was the brother of the girl I’m supposed to get married to?

And I’m supposed to still agree to this so-called marriage?

Was his name even jack?

Just what the fuck is life trying to do to me?

After a few seconds of us standing still without exchanging handshakes, I picked up my briefcase and phone and headed out of the conference room, ignoring my dad’s and cousin’s frantic calls.

I got into my car and drove out from the company as fast as I could, with no particular destination in mind.
