Celeste's POV

"You're done talking. Now it's my turn. Since you've admitted to it, then come with me to court today. It's about time the misunderstanding was settled."

I grabbed her right on her hand, she struggled to get free while I dragged her out.

"Taking me there will only make your sentence quicker." She said and I paused my tracks.

"Judging from your reaction, I don't think you know it yet," Millie said, a smug look on her face. "I'm getting married to the heir of the Evercrest family. Do you still think anyone in this entire town would dare do anything to me?" She asked.

Although I didn't want to believe it, I knew there was some truth to her words. It had been quite a few days since I had been searching for her whereabouts.

Only a powerful family could have her hidden for so long. "I'll advise you to let me go now and try to find your way around the mess." She said, pointing at the approaching figure.

"The moment he sees me with you, then you are truly doomed. One word from me will send you to jail. Not in two days, right now."

I swallowed hard. I never thought today would end up like this. I took a look at the approaching figure and another at her.

I sighed, letting her go and walking off, ignoring the words she said behind her back.

Although I didn't believe her words, holding her by the hand and taking her to court was really a good idea, I had to figure something else out.

I walked slowly across the city, not taking a cap as I wanted to feel the cool city breeze. Memories of us flashed in my head as I strode down the street. I could have sworn Millie wouldn't even say a bad word to me but here I am.

I coughed, feeling my throat tighten. My phone rang and I sniffed, cleaning the tear that had threatened to fall.

"Did you find her?" Yuna asked, but I couldn't respond. What should I tell her? That Millie remained unremorseful and even threatened to send me to jail.

I gritted my teeth, about to speak when Yuna spoke over me. "I've seen the news, she's getting married into one influential family, I'm afraid we can't do anything about her again." She said and I gasped.

"What?" I hadn't really believed Millie's words from back there but hearing Yuna's words confirmed it.

"Are you sure?" I asked the obvious question. I knew how those families operated. They would never let anyone touch one of their own, and today, Millie had become exactly that.

I took a deep breath, my hand dropping slowly, not ready to hear Yuna's words again. A tear threatened to fall but I held it in.

Why should she have the right to run free while I would stay locked up? Why wouldn't I be able to bring her to justice when I have evidence of her crimes? Just because she clung to some heir, would my company be left in shambles?

I shook my head, unwilling to accept my fate. An idea struck me. Millie couldn't have told the family about her misdeeds.

A smile broke out on my face. How about I do her a favour?

"Are you sure that Heather Evercrest will be here today?" I asked Yuna, staring at the long line in front of me.

"Yes. It's a party held for them, she has to be there." She reassured me, and I breathed out heavily, calming myself.

The check looked more strict than the last place I had gone to. I don't think I would have such a smooth entry. Still, I tried my best to hide among the crowd, keeping myself away from their gazes.

But as the line moved, I heard the whispers of the people present.

"The exclusive guests don't have to pass through this line." The speaker shook his head.

"I'm afraid they don't even need our presence there." Another said, and I gulped hard.

It all made sense why there was a line. This was the place for people they had invited out of courtesy.

I grumbled under my breath but kept moving. I had to enter this room today, the guard's deep voice soon snapped me out of my thoughts.

"You can't bring anyone else. Only one person is allowed in with this invitation." He said, and I blinked hard. I stared at the commotion while trying my best to stay hidden.

The man who held his supposed wife by her waist had his face twisted with anger. He looked at his wife's face, reluctant but rather than sending her off. He glared at the guard at the door.

"Move, I want to go in." He said, like he hadn't heard the guards' earlier words.

"If you want to use force, then I'll comply." He said, signalling to his colleague. His colleague moved forward, ready to throw them out of there.

"I'll let her leave." He spoke quickly seeing the huge figure approaching.

He bid his wife farewell and walked in with a grumble. I stared at the scene in horror, my plan couldn't work.

I stumbled out of the line, walking around the venue for a while but I couldn't find another entrance. There was no door reserved for the exclusive guests.

I squinted. Were they all already inside? I asked myself.

"I have to get in no matter what," I said to myself, I wore a weary expression as I returned to the line.

I copied the steps of the high-end clients I had talked with, walking in a way that wouldn't blow my cover.

I stepped in front of the security but I didn't even say a word to him, I just attempted to pass through. I smiled, thinking my trick had worked but the guard pulled me back.

"Where do you think you are going?" I gave him an undercondensed look and turned.

"I just received some bad news. I don't have time to talk to you." I said attempting to walk in but this time he stood right in front.

He sneered, "Do you think an act could get you inside?”

Celeste's POVMy hands began to shake as I stared at his hardened face. Had he already seen through my act? I took in a shaky breath."Act?" I asked, about to crack a smile when he spoke again. "The exclusive guests don't use this entrance. Your act can't trick me." He said, signalling to his colleague at the corner. My eyes widened. I couldn't get thrown out like this, I hadn't talked to Heather yet. I put on a strict face and spoke. "I just want to take this path. What can you do to me?"My voice remained stern and I stared at him with a degrading look but he didn't even shake. "I've seen a lot of your type but you are the strongest so far." He said, and at the end of his words, I felt a cold grip on my shoulder. The hairs on my skin rose immediately.I tried to speak but before I could, someone spoke behind me. "Let her in. She's with me." He said, I recognized that voice. It was the man from the company. The guard's face changed as soon as he saw him standing but he still tri

Celeste's POVI fell backwards, his words hitting me like a wave of shock. "What?"He repeated his words, slowly this time like he was afraid I would ask for it again. I raised a brow at him.I barely knew this man. No, I didn't even know him at all, and he dared propose marriage to me. In such an absurd way too. I took a further step back and he smiled. "Is it really so surprising?" He asked, moving closer. "A contract marriage. I would not only save your company but also your reputation. Those lawsuits..." He paused, locking eyes with me."Just forget about it." He said, and I bit my lip harder. I hated the fact that he was right, he really could be the one who would help me out of this misery and keep me away from it for a few more years but I wouldn't get married to a stranger. My face hardened. "I don't agree with your terms," I said, turning to walk out but he stopped me."I know you won't. This is your first time seeing me after all." He said, taking steady steps forward a

Celeste's POVThe parents looked solemn, but they didn't demand that I pay for their child's life. The child's mother mentioned that he had always been ill and the death wasn't tied to the accident.I breathed a sigh of relief, quickly giving them a little compensation for their fault but I still don't know who the culprit was. I thought that was the peak of it. With no charge like manslaughter on the company's name, at least I would still be able to manoeuvre the others. But, I wasn't prepared for the hidden clause. The Horton family I had just signed with, the one deal that would have made the company one of the best, it was a trap. They demanded forty million dollars in compensation if any issues came up with their project. Far more than the total project itself. Two weeks later, and I am still yet to figure anything out. Millie is nowhere to be found and I only have two days left. I ran my hand through my hair. Sniffing heavily, as I stared at the flowing river below. A th

Celeste's POV“I'll definitely take care of it all. Just focus on finding the money we need.” Yuna assured me. I sniffed, cleaning the tears that fell from my eyes. “Okay,” I replied, cutting the call.My hand fell, and I held on tighter to the railings, letting the tears fall. I had never thought it would end up like this. I had taken over my company with full hopes of reviving it, who knew I would be the one to destroy it?But even so, I still wanted to believe that I wasn't wrong about her. Willow didn't do all these intentionally, there must be something wrong somewhere. Maybe she was even kidnapped. But I was drowning. The lawsuit is less than two days away, and she's still yet to show up. I had thought I would be able to manage it. It was two weeks since the incident happened but the memory still played in my head like it was yesterday."Miss.
