Chapter 2

Auteur: Bubble Experiment
I frowned slightly. How did she find out so quickly?

Nevertheless, I didn’t tell her the truth. Instead, I put on a surprised tone. "No, of course not. I’ve been wearing it the whole time."

On the other end of the call, Jayde’s voice came out fast and tense. "That’s good. Colette, you absolutely cannot lose that charm. When I had it blessed, I bound it to the baby. If you lose it, the baby could be in danger."

I let out a silent sneer. 'The one in danger is you, isn’t it?'

After hanging up, I told @HollowBranch what had happened. They replied immediately.

"Her child’s life essence is currently inside the sow. The body is rejecting it, and that reaction is being transmitted back to her. That’s why she’s feeling unwell."

I nodded to myself. 'Good. It’s about time you felt what this is like.'

The next day, as soon as I got to the office, Sam Morgan, our team lead, walked over. "Colette, you feeling okay today? There’s a client you need to follow up with this afternoon."

Before I could answer, Jayde cut in, "Come on, that’s a bit much, don’t you think? Colette is already so pregnant. What if something happens while she’s out meeting a client? I’ll go instead."

I looked at her coldly.

She’d used this exact move to take several of my clients already.

At first, I thought she was helping me. I’d even been grateful. But now that I knew the truth, all I felt was a chill.

We had gone to the hospital together for our prenatal checkups and agreed not to tell anyone at work.

However, my stomach had grown so large I couldn’t hide it anymore.

Meanwhile, Jayde had managed to conceal her pregnancy perfectly, so lately, she’d been the one handling most of my accounts.

This time, I didn’t let her. I shoved her aside and said, "I’m fine. Jayde, you’ve already taken on so many of my clients. How could I keep troubling you? I’m past the three-month mark now. It’s stable. I’ll go."

She tried to say something else, but I didn’t give her the chance. I grabbed the file from Sam.

After Sam walked away, Jayde looked at me coldly and said, "Did you forget to wear your charm again?"

I froze for a second, then pulled the charm out from under my clothes. "No. I’ve got it on."

To avoid suspicion, I’d deliberately bought an identical fake and wore it instead.

Jayde nodded thoughtfully. "Good. Just make sure you don’t take it off."

Her tone had grown colder, and it sent a wave of discomfort through me.

Not long after, my stomach suddenly seized with violent spasms, swelling again as if someone were inflating a balloon inside me. The pain was so intense I cried out before I could stop myself. In an instant, everyone in the office turned to look at me.

I clutched my stomach, trying to steady myself, but the spasms wouldn’t stop. Sweat beaded across my forehead, and my face drained of color.

Jayde stood nearby and said in an exaggerated tone, "Colette, didn’t you say everything was stable? Why do you look like you’re in so much pain?"

I glared at her, teeth clenched, but the pain was so overwhelming I couldn’t speak.

Hearing the commotion, Sam came back and shook his head when he saw me. "If you’re really not feeling well, go home. Don’t push yourself."

A coworker nearby scoffed. "Wow, the office princess finally slipped up in front of us. It’s only three months. Does it really need to be this dramatic?"

"She probably doesn’t watch what she eats. Look how big she is. That’s not normal. Serves her right."

"If you can’t handle the job, just quit. Don’t hog the position. Our team lead was still working right up until she gave birth."

Hearing their words, tears welled up in my eyes. Northbridge Group was publicly listed and known for taking good care of its employees.

Before getting pregnant, I’d been the top salesperson for months. I was just about to be promoted to assistant team lead. How could I walk away now?

Jayde put on a fake look of concern. "It’s okay, Colette. If you’re not feeling well, go home and rest. Northbridge Group won’t fire you for being pregnant. Just leave your work to me."

I wanted to refuse, but in my current state, there was no way I could keep working. Sam also urged me to take sick leave, so I had no choice but to agree.

As I was heading out, Jayde leaned in close and whispered in my ear, "Don’t forget to keep wearing the charm when you get home. You didn’t wear it yesterday, and look what happened today."

Both of them were insisting they were right, and for a moment, I had no idea who to believe. However, the pain wracking my body was unbearable. Gritting my teeth, I pressed the talisman Jayde had given me against my stomach. To my shock, the moment it touched my skin, it burst into flames on its own and burned away within seconds.Strangely enough, the pain vanished just as quickly. My body returned to normal, as if nothing had happened.I looked out toward the yard. The sow that had been bowing so eerily before was now calm again, quietly settling back into its pen. That pig couldn’t stay. I’d have to sell it in a few days.I muttered a few curses under my breath, just about to lie down, when I heard a knock at the door. When I opened it, I froze. It was Jayde. She was pounding on the door, calling my name urgently.I yanked it open. "Alright, alright. It’s the middle of the night. Do you want to wake the whole neighborhood?"Her eyes swept over me anxiously. "Colette, how a

The moment I read the message, I froze. Before I could even process it, @HollowBranch sent another long reply."The reason your baby seems to have disappeared is that it’s being concealed by a suffocating, cold energy. Think carefully. Has she come into contact with you in the past few days? She must have taken that opportunity to cast another spell. She’s trying to use your womb to raise something evil and harvest its luck for herself."I immediately thought back to the hospital when Jayde had grabbed my wrist.I quickly looked down. Sure enough, a dark bluish mark had appeared on my skin.At that point, my mind was completely tangled.Jayde told me not to trust @HollowBranch.@HollowBranch told me not to trust Jayde. So who was I supposed to believe?Unfortunately, I had no other choice. I described everything happening in front of me and sent it to @HollowBranch.After a long pause, he finally replied, "She’s more dangerous than I thought. That charm has been sealed with h

Jayde practically ground out her last few words through clenched teeth. She glared at me viciously. "That charm I gave you was made using your birth data. Now you’ve put it on something else. It’s the same as putting your own child into someone else’s body. How could you be this stupid?"I frowned slightly. "Then why was my stomach so big before? What caused that?"Jayde shook her head. "That’s because you have strong vitality. The charm’s effect was especially powerful on you. The baby had soaked up every bit of that power, so of course, your belly grew faster. I wasn’t as fortunate, so mine barely showed."She stared at me, her expression filled with resentment. "I never imagined you'd misinterpret my intentions so severely or truly believe I was out to harm you," she said. And now look at what you’ve done. You ruined me, and you lost your own child, too. Are you satisfied now?"I stared at her in disbelief. After a long pause, I finally asked, "Is what you’re saying true?""Of

Everyone was stunned by what Jayde said. After she spoke, her arm dropped, and she closed her eyes, falling into a deep sleep.I didn’t bother with her anymore and left the hospital. With my stomach finally back to normal, work had been going unusually well these past few days. Some of the clients I’d lost were gradually coming back.Meanwhile, Jayde stayed in the hospital for over ten days, barely able to get out of bed.Liam even came to the office once to cause trouble, but security threw him out.The next time I saw Jayde, she was at the office handling her resignation. When she saw me, her gaze turned ice-cold, staring straight through me.Her stomach had grown even larger, her entire body swollen to an almost grotesque degree. She was so heavy that she had to catch her breath after just a few steps.Everyone in the office was shocked by her condition, whispering among themselves."How many is she carrying? Why is she so big?""Something’s off… It doesn’t look normal at

Seeing the scene, both Oscar and Sam were visibly shaken.Oscar stepped forward and said gently, "Jayde, are you okay?"Upon seeing us, her husband, Liam Baker, who had been at her side, spun around. He strode over and grabbed Oscar by the collar."You’re her boss? You knew she was pregnant, so why did you force her to drink that much?"Startled, Oscar struggled free, frowning. "I had no idea she was pregnant. If I did, why would I have sent her to meet Mr. Whitney?"Liam pointed angrily at Jayde’s stomach. "Her belly’s this obvious, and you’re saying you didn’t know? Even a blind person could see it!"Oscar frowned, confused. "Her stomach wasn’t this big yesterday. You’re her husband. You’re with her every day. How could you not know?"That seemed to take the wind out of Liam. His tone weakened. "I… But no matter what, this happened at your company. You’re responsible."Sam spoke calmly, her expression stern. "I understand you’re upset, but this actually has nothing to do with

The moment Jayde finished speaking, the line went dead. Not long after, the office group chat exploded. "Did you hear? Jayde had sudden massive bleeding while she was out with a client!" "That’s insane! She didn’t even look pregnant at all!" "I heard the client is furious and wants to terminate the contract." Reading the messages, I smiled faintly, turned off my phone, and went to bed for a good night’s sleep. The next morning, as soon as I got to the office, I saw a crowd gathered outside Oscar Barton, the manager’s office. Inside, the enraged voice of the client, Troy Whitney, could be heard shouting. "Mr. Barton, what exactly were you thinking? You sent a pregnant woman to handle our account and didn’t even inform us in advance. If something had happened, who would take responsibility?" Oscar forced a smile. "Mr. Whitney, I’m truly sorry. We honestly had no idea Jayde was pregnant. She never informed us." Troy slammed his hand on the table. "It was a minor issue to
