The cry echoed again.

Soft. Fragile. Impossible.

Lorrie stood frozen in the middle of the corridor. Another cry came from somewhere beneath the stone floor. Her heart twisted.

"That can't be a baby."

Elena's face was still pale. "It is."

Lorenzo looked at her. "You said the child died twenty-five years ago."

"I believed he did."

"Then who is crying?"

Elena shook her head. "I don't know."

Massimo's voice came through the communicator. "Everyone stay where you are."

Lorenzo immediately answered.

  • The Bride He Refused to Lose    The Mother Who Never Died

"Run."The voice came again. Soft. Faint. Almost swallowed by the alarms screaming throughout the underground facility. But Lorenzo knew that voice. He had heard it in childhood dreams. He had heard it in old recordings. He had heard it in the last memory he had of the woman who raised him: His mother.Lorenzo's lips parted. "Mother?"Lorrie grabbed his arm. "Lorenzo, what's wrong?"He didn't answer. He stared into the darkness beyond the corridor. "She's alive."Massimo's dead communicator suddenly crackled, and her voice came through:> «"Lorenzo... Don't come looking for me."»> His heart slammed against his ribs. "Where are you?"Silence. Then—> «"Below the original laboratory."»> The connection died.Lorenzo immediately turned toward the others. "We're going down."Adrian shook his head. "That's exactly what your grandfather wants.""I don't care.""You should."Lorenzo stepped toward him. "That's my mother."Adrian stared at him. "And that's exactly why he'll use her."Elias

  • The Bride He Refused to Lose    The Blood Experiment

"Begin the final experiment."The words echoed through the underground facility. Leo stood frozen.Across the room, the young man inside the glass chamber watched him silently. He looked almost exactly like Lorenzo—the same dark eyes, the same sharp jaw, the same unmistakable Dimitri features. But there was something different in his expression. He looked tired, as though he had spent years waiting for someone.Leo slowly approached the glass. "What's your name?"The young man didn't answer immediately. Then he whispered:> "Daniel."> Leo's eyes widened. "You're Daniel?"Daniel nodded. "The brother everyone thought was dead."Leo looked toward the old man. "Why are you keeping him here?"The old man smiled. "Because Daniel is the missing piece."Daniel's expression hardened. "Don't listen to him."The old man ignored him.> "Your father represents leadership."> "Elias represents protection."> "Adrian represents power."> He looked at Leo. "And you represent the Guardian."Leo shook

  • The Bride He Refused to Lose    The Brother in the Glass

The laboratory fell silent. No one moved. No one seemed capable of speaking.Lorenzo stared at the frozen image on the monitor: Isabella, his missing aunt, the woman his family had mourned for decades. Alive. And somewhere beneath Eden... she had another secret.A brother. Someone who looked exactly like him.Lorrie tightened her grip around Leo. "That woman......She said she's your sister."Lorenzo nodded slowly. "I heard her.""But that's impossible."Massimo's voice came through the communicator. "It isn't."Lorenzo turned sharply. "You knew?""I suspected.""That's not an answer."Massimo sighed. "Your grandfather had another child. His name was Daniel. Daniel Dimitri."Lorenzo's face hardened. "Why have I never heard that name?""Because he was erased."Gabriel immediately moved toward the main terminal. "I may be able to access the research center."Adrian stopped him. "Don't."Gabriel looked at him. "Why?""Because the system is designed to detect unauthorized access.""And?"A

  • The Bride He Refused to Lose    The Shot That Changed Everything

BANG!The gunshot echoed through the laboratory. For one terrifying second... nobody moved.Lorrie's heart stopped. "LORENZO!"The emergency lights flickered back on. Smoke drifted through the room.Lorrie looked toward Leo. He was still standing. Alive. Then her eyes dropped to the floor. A man was lying there. Blood spread slowly across his black shirt. But it wasn't Leo.It was the Director.Adrian stood behind him, holding the smoking gun.The Director stared down at the wound in disbelief. "You..."Adrian's expression was cold. "You were never going to kill the boy. You needed him alive."The Director coughed. "You betrayed me."Adrian smiled. "No. I betrayed the man who betrayed my family."Lorrie ran toward Leo. "Leo!"He rushed into her arms. She held him tightly. "I thought... I thought I'd lost you."Leo buried his face against her shoulder. "I'm okay, Mom."Lorrie kissed the top of his head. "Don't ever scare me like that again."Across the room... Lorenzo stood motionless.

  • The Bride He Refused to Lose    Blood Betrays Blood

Lorrie couldn't breathe. She stared at the black screen long after the image had disappeared. The voice was still ringing in her ears. The person who had taken Leo. The person who had betrayed them. The person standing behind her little brother on that screen...It was someone from her own family. Someone she had trusted. Someone whose blood ran through her veins."No..." Lorrie whispered.Lorenzo stepped closer. "Lorrie."She shook her head. "No.""Tell me who it was."Her eyes filled with tears. "I can't.""Lorrie.""I can't!" Her voice cracked.Everyone in the chamber became silent. Massimo stepped forward. "We need to know."Lorrie closed her eyes, then finally whispered the name."Lucia."Lorenzo frowned. "Your cousin?"Lorrie nodded. "Lucia."Gabriel's expression changed immediately. "Lucia disappeared three years ago. Everyone thought she was dead."Lorrie wiped her tears. "She wasn't."Massimo looked at Elena. "Who is Lucia?"Elena's face became pale. "My sister's daughter."L
