Blake’s Pov She waited until I walked into the dinning room before she started to talk louder. “So, he demands I have a DNA testing, like I would lie about his child.” Clarissa said to one of the pack women sitting beside her, and I shook my head, ignoring her like I didn't see her. I sat down beside Julia. She had been the one to convince me to come downstairs for lunch, because she wanted me to get out of the chamber a bit. I had been cooped up in there mostly anyway, because I didn't want to have to deal with anyone here. Ridge had gone against my wishes and said here was safer and better, and I wouldn't have to deal with Clarissa, but here I was. I picked up the fork, focusing on the plate in front of me like it held the answers to life. Julia gave my knee a quick squeeze under the table, a silent reminder not to take Clarissa’s bait. “She acts like I would try to trap him with a baby that isn’t his,” Clarissa added, her voice pitched just loud enough to carry across the ro
Unknown Pov’s Lining them up, I asked one of my men to remove the clothes that was above their heads. They were still in their filthy orange uniform, the stink of the place they had just escaped all over them. They would get to the base soon, and they would change out of the filthy clothes, fed, before they were introduced to the life they would live from now on. I was building an army for a war that would start soon, and they wouldn't see me coming. “Get off the clothes.” I instructed one of my men, and he nodded before moving forward to do as told. “Who are you?” one of the men asked me, looking around with his eyes squinted because of the lights around. I didn't blame him, the black clothes had been over his head since last night when we took them from the transport van. But, what I didn't appreciate was his voice. I knew he was also curious as to who I was and why I had rescued them out of their miserable life, but he should be thanking me first, then questions later.
Ridge’s Pov“Alpha, you need to see this.” Henry said, barging into my office with a frown on his face. I was going through the financials with Roman when he came in, so I glanced at Roman before looking at him. “See what?” I asked, pushing back in my seat, my arms folded. “See what?” I asked, pushing back in my seat, arms folded tight across my chest. Henry didn’t answer right away. He strode across the room, snatched the remote from the edge of my desk, and flicked on the flat-screen mounted on the wall. “The news. You need to see it for yourself.” The screen blinked to life, and the broadcast cut to a woman at a newsroom desk, her expression grave. Behind her, bold red letters flashed: PRISONER ESCAPE DURING TRANSPORT. I leaned forward as the anchor’s steady voice filled the office. “Earlier today, during a transfer from the Greenbrier Correctional Facility to a maximum-security institution in Fayette County, multiple inmates escaped custody. Reports confirm that several guar
Blake’s PovAfter the back and forth between Ridge and I, I gave up and went to the pack house, but Julia went with me, which I was grateful for. Mostly, I stayed in Ridge’s chamber, but in another room with Julia and not with Ridge. I was still very much angry with him, and I didn't want to talk about it with him, so I gave him the silent treatment instead. Right now though, I was in the sitting area of the chamber, watching the television, waiting for Julia. She had gone down to the main kitchen to fetch some fresh fruit that were delivered to the pack house this morning. The silence in Ridge’s chambers pressed in on me, broken only by the chatter of the television I wasn’t even paying attention to. My arms were folded tight, legs tucked under me on the couch, stewing in that mix of resentment and exhaustion. I hated that I had given in, hated even more that I was here without Ridge, still refusing to speak to him. At least Julia was with me. If it weren’t for her, I probably
Blake’s Pov “I would have loved for you to stay at my mother’s but I don't want you staying where Clarissa is. The only reason I still haven't sent her packing is because we haven't done that test to confirm Honey is mine.” Ridge said, pacing the room. “So you would rather I go to the pack house then?” I asked, almost gritting my teeth at him. I didn't mind staying at Elaine’s house, and I wasn't scared of Clarissa. What worse could she do than she had already done? Beside, Julia and Nina were there, but Ridge wasn't having it. He nodded his head. “Yes, Blake. Don't be stubborn about it. I've told you why you need to go tk the pack house instead. I don't want you and Clarissa in the same space.” he stopped pacing for a moment and turned to me. “If I'm trying to protect you from danger, but allow you stay in the same house with that woman, then what exactly am I protecting you from? She's danger in her own and you know it.” “So you would prefer I stay in a place I'm not welcom
Ridge’s Pov Roman covered his hand with his mouth, and he looked from the hacker’s computer at me. We had called Joe in when we started to investigate the number that called Blake, and he had been working tirelessly to break through the encryption. “Alpha Ridge,” Roman muttered, lowering his hand. “This isn’t just some random burner. Whoever’s behind this… they knew what they were doing. The call was rerouted through three different countries before it landed here.” Joe leaned back from the keyboard, rubbing his temples. “But I got a trace, partial. The signal finally anchored to a device in Charleston. Disposable, but active less than forty-eight hours ago.” My jaw clenched. “Charleston’s too damn close.” Roman gave a sharp nod, his tone grim. “Yeah. And if they’re watching Blake like it looks… then they know exactly where to hit.” “That's not even the maddest part. I have an informant at Charleston and they were telling me that some men were gathering mercenaries and stuff fo
