Ridge’s Pov

What the hell was she talking about? Was she crazy, or was this the effect of the drug she was on? I stared at her as soon as she said those words, unable to say anything at first, then I saw Blake started to walk away out the corner of my eyes, and I looked at her to see the expression on her face.

Oh damn! She looked like someone that was about to cry. She looked as if she was not sure she knew what was happening anymore.

At least, we were the same there.

Right now, my wolf was asleep, but even aside from that, I had met this woman in my wolf form, and I didn't feel she was my mate. I couldn't anyway, because I had already found and had my mate.

“What are you talking about?” I finally asked her.

Erin didn’t flinch as she looked me straight in the eye, like she had been holding that secret in for years and had finally let it loose.

“I’m not lying,” she said quietly. “I’ve felt it since the night we met. It was faint, but it was there. I thought maybe it was bec

Blake’s Pov I stayed away from Ridge for the rest of the day but it was not out of spite. It was because I needed the space, seeing as my heart was still tangled in the images from this morning, and I knew if I spent the day looking at him; if I let myself melt at the way he always tried to fix things with his eyes, I wouldn’t be able to process anything clearly. So instead, I stuck close to Julia and Nina. We stayed in Julia’s sun-filled room, and they gave me a crash course in fashion and personal style. “Don’t let Ridge talk you into wearing boring things,” Julia said, holding up a rich emerald green wrap dress to my frame. “You’re his mate, not his damn assistant. You should look like royalty every time you enter a room.” “Agreed,” Nina added, chewing on the end of a Twizzler. “And if you want to wear jeans and a band tee, do that too. But do it on your terms.” They didn’t bring up Erin, and I was grateful for that. I let them play with my hair, try on heels I couldn’t walk

Ridge’s PovTurning to Erin who had her hands wrapped around my arm, with gritted teeth. “What the heck is wrong with you?” I asked her, my wolf trying to push up again. She reared her head back, as she looked at me. “I'm just saying that you don't have to go after her, that's all.” I was angry, really angry, but I didn't want to do something I was going to regret, or I would have bitten her shoulder off, or a pound of flesh from that sultry neck she was showing off to me. I yanked my arm out of her grip, stepping back like her touch burned. “You don’t ever get to tell me what I do when it comes to my wife,” I snapped, my voice low and shaking with the effort to keep from shifting. My wolf was pacing under my skin, snarling for control. “You crossed a line, Erin. You don’t get to stand in my kitchen, wearing her clothes, touching me, and then act like it’s no big deal.” She blinked, her lashes fluttering like she was offended, or worse, confused. “I was just trying to remind you

Blake’s PovMy throat was so painful, and I really didn't want to believe what was right there in front of me, but could you blame me if I did? Look at how closely together they were standing, and even though I couldn't see Ridge’s face, it still didn't mean I couldn't tell it might be that of… I shook my head, trying not to think about it. “Ridge?” I called, as if trying to make sure it was really him, trying to make sense of it if it was. He stiffened, I could see him tensed in his shoulders, then he turned slowly towards me, and it killed me, because the expression on his face seemed like he was guilty of something. “Oh God!” I mumbled to myself, just as he called my name. “I… sorry,” I said, swallowing hard. I wasn't even sure what I was apologizing for until I spoke again. “I didn’t mean to interrupt. I just… I smelled coffee. I didn’t know anyone else was awake.” My voice sounded too calm, like the calm that always came before the storm. “No. No, Blake. This isn’t wh

Blake’s Pov Something kept trying to pull me out of sleep, but this was too sweet to cut short, so I closed my eyes and tried to deepen back my sleep. Five more minutes, I begged the universe, curling deeper into the warmth that surrounded me. It smelled like Ridge; like pine and firewood and something darker that always made me feel safe. “Wake up, Blake.” There it was again, the darn voice, sharper now. It was lower as well, like a command wrapped in velvet. My brows furrowed even before I opened my eyes. Ugh, no. Whoever you are, go bother someone with a less complicated life. My life was complicated enough to add being unable to sleep. It was just terrible, and I didn't want to have to deal with this. Even my bones disagreed with the idea of movement. They sank further into the bed like they’d been poured there in liquid form, and I groaned, dragging out a long, disappointed hiss. I wasn’t ready for the real world, not yet. Not when I had just started dreaming about somethi

Ridge’s Pov“What the hell do you think you're doing, Erin?” I asked her again when she said nothing but kept her hand on my shoulder, and I pushed back from her, my face scrunched up. I could feel my wolf stir, ready to attack, but I pushed him down mentally. Not now, boy. I didn't want him coming out hot headed to fight something I could handle. “Sorry, Ridge… I mean, Alpha Ridge. I was only trying to talk to you.” she said, shrugging like it was nothing. Well, I knew it wasn't nothing, but I calmed down and squinted my eyes at her. “You had to put your hands on me to do that?” I asked. Erin gave me a small laugh, breathy and fake. “Oh, come on. Don’t be so tense like I'm doing something wrong. It was just a touch.” I took a step back, jaw tight. “That’s not how you just talk to someone, and you know it.” She pouted, actually pouted, like we were in some sort of high school drama. “You used to be a lot more fun back then when I met you, you know that?” I raised a brow. “N

Ridge’s Pov Standing at the balcony of the kitchen, overlooking the beach, with a cup of coffee in my hand, I sipped gently, letting the beverage do its wonders on my senses. I hadn't really slept much, so I had stood up early to make myself a cup of coffee and enjoy it out here in solitude. It was sometimes around five o’clock, or something, and the sky was still a bit dark, but not unusual. With one hand in my pocket and the other one holding the cup, I looked at the sky, wondering what the day would bring. My wolf was awake too, but not alerted because there was nothing to be worried about. The patrol was good, because Henry had made sure to put people up to it, and my family were all still asleep, at least, I thought so. Sighing, I removed my hand from my pocket to rub down my face. The last couple of days had been nothing but trouble, but I was grateful I was able to talk to Blake about it, and I was even more glad that she understood me, believed me as well.
