Samantha's POV

With Christmas songs playing on a low pitch, I enjoyed the evening's cool breeze. I tucked in my hair that the wind kept blowing to my face of which I blamed myself for not bringing a hairband with me.

Even though I had a book in my hand that I intended to read, I could barely concentrate because I had a lot on my mind. However, the atmosphere gave me a good escape from the troubles of the mind.

With a low sigh, I dropped the book in my hands on my laps and sat back comfortably

Adrian’s POV“The problem is that it’s convincing.”The words stayed in the space between us longer than either of us moved to break.I leaned forward slightly, resting my forearms against the desk, my eyes still fixed on her. “Convincing enough for who?”“For anyone who doesn’t know you,” she replied.“And you do?”She didn’t answer immediately. That, in itself, was an answer.“I know how you think,” she said finally. “This isn’t you.”A faint smile touched my lips, though there was no humor in it. “That sounds like trust.”“It’s not trust,” she corrected. “It’s pattern recognition.”I studied her for a moment, then nodded slowly. “Fair enough.”Silence settled again, but it wasn’t empty. It carried weight, thought, and calculation.“What exactly have you seen?” I asked. She stepped closer this time, closing the distance between us just enough to shift the dynamic of the room. Her hand moved to the desk, placing her phone down before sliding it toward me.“Look.”I picked it up.File

Adrian’s POV“Thank you, Mr Leigh.” The client I had a meeting with said and forwarded his hand for a shake. I met it halfway with a slight smile.“We look forward to doing business with you.”The man nodded, satisfied with the outcome of the meeting. He turned, his team following closely behind as they prepared to leave.Alex held the door open for them, stepping aside before falling in behind me. I walked with them toward the elevator, my pace unhurried, my thoughts already shifting to the next thing waiting on my desk.“Have an amazing day, Mr Leigh,” the man added as they stepped into the elevator.I gave a brief nod and watched as the doors slid shut. The moment they closed, I turned toward my office. Alex followed. My hands slipped into my pockets as I walked down the corridor, my expression calm, my mind already organizing the rest of the day. Then I stopped.Someone was seated at my secretary’s desk.“You’ve gotten someone?” I asked.“Yes, sir,” Alex replied.I gave a small no

Samantha’s POVBy the time Ryan stepped out of his room, the house no longer felt as quiet. The soft clink of cutlery against ceramic and the faint aroma of food filled the space, grounding me in something almost… normal. It had been a while since I allowed myself something like this. Something that didn’t involve strategy, surveillance, or survival. I loved the feel of this; it reminds me of the peace and warmth of a home that an ordinary person gets.I placed the last plate on the table just as I heard his footsteps approach.“You actually cooked,” he said, his voice carrying a hint of surprise.I glanced up briefly. “You sound shocked.”I would be shocked if I were him too. We weren’t on that kind of terms, I believe.“I am,” he admitted, pulling out a chair. “I didn’t think you were the domestic type.”A faint smile tugged at my lips as I took my seat across from him. “I’m full of surprises.”“That, I’m starting to realize.”For a moment, neither of us spoke. The silence wasn’t un

  • The CEO's Bodyguard   Chapter 52

Samantha’s POVBack in the quiet of Ryan’s house, I sat at the desk with my laptop open and files spread around me like pieces of a puzzle I was determined to solve. The attack earlier had been clean, almost too clean and too precise. Whoever had tried to hit Ryan knew exactly when and where to act. And then there was the trace…the Leigh crest. A breadcrumb, or worse, a trap.I zoomed in on the CCTV frame again, studying every detail: the fold of the handkerchief, the way it brushed the glass, the subtle curve of the crest. Every symbol meant something, and every detail could lead somewhere.David’s reports came in one after the other, notifications pinging as I opened each file. He had traced shell companies, donations, and past investments linked to the Leigh name. Dates, transfers, locations, each entry fell too neatly into place, forming a pattern that felt deliberate.I frowned slightly. This wasn’t just Adrian. It couldn’t be.My instincts pressed hard against the conclusion sta

Adrian’s POV“Good morning, sir.”Alex walked in with a smile.“Alex,” I said without looking up from my screen, “I asked for a new secretary. What’s the update?”He dropped a stack of files on my desk and replied, “I’m on it. You’ll have feedback before the end of the day.”My fingers paused briefly over the keyboard as I glanced up at him. “And what’s the delay?”“There isn’t one, really. Applications are already in, and HR is sorting through them. It shouldn’t take long.”I gave a small nod and returned to my laptop. “How’s the investigation coming along?”“No new leads yet, sir,” he said, hesitating briefly before adding, “but we’ve noticed something. Miss Gray’s been making moves. Quiet ones.”That got my attention, and my hands stilled over the keyboard. “What kind of moves?”“She’s been digging into the Leigh Group, running deep background checks. Some of those checks are brushing up against our major activities.”I leaned back slowly, a faint smile forming on my lips. “She’s l

  • The CEO's Bodyguard   Chapter 50

Ryan’s POVThe house was quieter than usual when I got home. Of course, it was not empty because Samantha was meant to move in earlier today. I could have stayed at home to receive her at least but, I had more important things to attend to.So, yes! The house was not empty. The air was just… alert. It felt like it knew it was being watched.I loosened my tie as I stepped inside, keys landing softly on the console. The lights in the sitting room were on, dimmed low, and a familiar posture caught my attention immediately.Samantha.She sat on the far end of the couch with her laptop open, one leg tucked beneath her. She possibly didn’t know it but she looked calm, and still. It was the kind of stillness that wasn’t rest but readiness. At least, I knew her better now to know she was trouble.“You’re up,” I said, making my presence known. She looked up instantly, eyes sharp before softening. “You said you’d be late.”“I didn’t think you’d wait.”“I wasn’t,” she replied. “Just… settling in.

Ryan’s POVI pulled out my car keys after I was assured I parked the car properly. I reached out to the board I placed my phone on and I picked it up. I opened the car door but before stepping out, I grabbed a plastic bag that I had earlier placed in the car.Letting out a deep

Adrian's POVI stared at the girl who laid on the bed in front of me. Her lips looked dry and her face was pale. I rubbed her cheek with the back of my palm as I stared intently at her. I couldn't help but get worried about her pitiful state. She was going through a lot yet showed off fierceness. "
