Elena knew she had reached the safe house when the car stopped pretending to be a car.

The engine went silent.

No streetlights. No traffic. No houses close enough to identify. Just a narrow dirt road disappearing into a wall of dark trees.

“Stay inside,” the driver said.

Elena looked at him through the rearview mirror. “You said we were safe.”

“We are.”

“That doesn't sound reassuring.”

“It wasn't meant to.”

He opened his door.

Elena's hand tightened around the small pistol she'd taken from the

POV: Elena’s The first thing I noticed was the date.October 14.The second was the amount.Forty-two million dollars. The third was the name printed beneath it.PROJECT EDEN.I stared at the screen, my fingers frozen above the keyboard.Outside the glass walls of my father’s private study, rain battered the windows. Somewhere downstairs, a clock chimed midnight, each note sounding like a warning I had ignored for far too long.I should have walked away.Instead, I clicked the file.A password prompt appeared.I tried my father’s birthday. Incorrect. My mother’s maiden name. Incorrect. The date of his wedding to my mother.Access granted.A bitter laugh escaped me.Of course. My father had built his entire life on the belief that secrets were safest when disguised as sentiment. The folder opened.Bank transfers. Offshore accounts. Shell companies. Signed agreements. Hundreds of documents arranged in meticulous order, each one stamped with the same two words.Project Eden.I scrolled

POV: ElenaThe secret room smelled of dust, damp wood, and something faintly metallic.Elena stood in the doorway, staring at the room her grandfather had kept locked for nearly twenty years. She had been here once as a child. She remembered the tall bookshelves, the heavy curtains, and her grandfather's warning never to enter without his permission. Back then, she had assumed the room contained business documents and old family photographs. Now she knew better.Three days ago, she had discovered that someone had falsified records connected to Laurent Holdings. Yesterday, a frightened former employee had warned her that her grandfather had hidden something before his death. And this morning, an anonymous message had led her here.Your grandfather left the truth where no one would think to look.Elena glanced over her shoulder. The corridor outside remained empty. She stepped inside and shut the door."All right, Grandfather," she whispered. "What were you so afraid of?"The room offer

POV: Elena (Third-Person Limited)At 11:57 p.m., Elena stood alone on Pier 19, wondering whether the man she had trusted for years was about to save her life or end it.The wind swept across the water, carrying the sharp smell of salt and diesel. Somewhere beyond the rows of abandoned shipping containers, a ship's horn sounded through the darkness. She checked her phone again. No new messages.Marcus had insisted she come alone. Adrian had insisted she stay away. Neither man had given her a reason she could fully trust, and that was precisely what frightened her.For years, she'd believed loyalty meant standing beside the people who stood beside her. She was beginning to understand that sometimes the most dangerous people were the ones who knew exactly how to earn your loyalty.A sound came from behind her.She spun around.Marcus emerged from the shadows, his coat unbuttoned, his face drawn with exhaustion. There was a fresh cut above his left eyebrow.Elena's breath caught."Who did

POV: Elena The first lie came dressed as a warning.“Elena, you need to stay away from Marcus.”Elena looked up from the documents spread across her desk. Vanessa stood in the doorway, pale and visibly shaken, clutching her phone as though it contained something capable of destroying them both.“What happened?”Vanessa closed the door behind her.“Someone accessed the company's confidential files last night. The files relating to Adrian's investigation, the offshore accounts, everything.”Elena's vein tightened. “Who had access?”“Three people.” Vanessa hesitated. “You, Marcus, and me.”For a moment, the office seemed to shrink around Elena.“No.” She shook her head. “Marcus wouldn't do that.”“I said the same thing.” Vanessa crossed the room and placed her phone on the desk. “Until I saw this.”On the screen was a security report showing a login at 11:47 p.m. The credentials belonged to Marcus.Elena stared at the timestamp.Marcus had called her at 11:32 that night. He had sounded

Elena's POVElena stared at the handwritten message on the table.“WE KNOW EVERYTHING YOU PLAN.“The words had been written by someone who had been listening to them.Watching them.Anticipating them. For the first time, Elena understood that hiding wasn't enough. They needed to know exactly how the enemy was getting their information. And there was only one way to find out. They needed to give the enemy something false.Something convincing.Something that only one person would know.Elena looked across the room at Adrian.“We need a trap.”Adrian's eyes narrowed.“What kind?”“One that doesn't require technology.”He understood immediately.“A false plan.”She nodded.“We create information that isn't real, give it to selected people, and wait.”Adrian leaned against the table.“If it leaks, we know who heard it.”“Exactly.”“And if they're monitoring us?”“Then we tell them something different.”A faint smile touched Adrian's mouth.“You're dangerous when you're angry.”Elena didn'

Adrian's POVThe photograph on Adrian's phone refused to leave his mind.Elena walking into the building.Eight months ago. Before she had returned to his life. Before their alliance. Before the threats. Before the falsified DNA report.Someone had been waiting for her.And that meant the cameras were never about Adrian alone. They were about both of them.Adrian called Daniel.“Tell me you traced the camera.”“I’m still working on it.”“Don't work on it remotely. Come back.”“Why?”“Because I think we're looking at this backward.”A pause.“What did you find?”Adrian stared at the photograph.“Our enemy wasn't reacting to our moves.”He lowered his voice.“They were planning them.”Elena sat on the edge of her bed, staring at the phone she had switched back on.Thirty-seven missed calls. Most were from Adrian. She ignored them. She wasn't ready to hear his voice. Not after what had happened. Not after believing, for even one terrible moment, that they might finally have another chanc
