Angelie wasn't expecting the question, she took her aback

She took her time to swallow the water in her mouth, letting the silence linger longer than she intended.

"Is it that obvious?" she finally asked, her voice barely above a whisper, her eyes pleading for mercy, like a child who had been caught sneaking chocolates.

Amaya reached out and held her hand gently.

"Does Lucas know?"

Angelie closed her eyes and bit her lower lip, struggling to find the right words.

"No. He doesn’t know... because he might not be responsible," she confessed.

Amaya's face did not show any surprise. Her calmness made it harder for Angelie to maintain her composure.

"Is it Jeffrey's?" Amaya asked softly.

The question hit Angelie like a thunderbolt. Her mouth opened, then closed again. She hadn’t expected Amaya to be so direct.
