The rain had finally stopped, leaving the morning sky over the city a bruised, stormy purple.

Inside the top floor office of Sterling Enterprises, Lucian had not slept a single wink. He stood by his massive desk, a glass of untouched whiskey in his hand, staring blindly at the city below. His mind was a toxic loop of the night before: Zara's cold eyes, Julian's protective hand on her waist, and that tiny beige jacket.

Julian's nephew.

The heavy office doors clicked open. Marcus stepped inside, carrying a thick manila folder and a silver tablet. He looked exhausted, having spent the entire night tearing apart firewalls and bribing hotel staff.

"You look terrible, Marcus," Lucian muttered, not turning around. "Tell me it was worth it."

"Sir," Marcus said, his voice unusually tight. He walked up to the desk and placed the folder down. "You were right not to trust them."

Lucian turned slowly. He set the whiskey glass down. "Explain."

Marcus opened the folder. "I ran a deep-level background check on Julian Pierce. Birth records, European tax filings, family trees. Everything." Marcus tapped a piece of paper. "Julian Pierce is an only child, Mr. Sterling. He does not have a sister. Which means he definitely does not have a nephew."

The air in the office suddenly felt too thin to breathe.

Lucian stared at the paper. A muscle in his jaw ticked furiously. She lied. She looked him dead in the eyes and lied to his face to protect whoever that child belonged to.

"There's more, sir," Marcus continued softly. He picked up the silver tablet and swiped the screen, handing it to Lucian. "The hotel lobby cameras were wiped. Whoever runs her tech security is a genius. But they missed one blind spot camera in the VIP underground parking garage from two days ago."

Lucian took the tablet. His hands were completely steady, but his heart was hammering against his ribs like a sledgehammer.

The image was grainy and black-and-white. It showed Zara stepping out of a black SUV. Julian was beside her.

But it was the figures emerging from the backseat that made the blood freeze in Lucian's veins.

Three small children.

One little girl holding a stuffed animal, and two little boys. Even in the blurry security footage, Lucian could see the boys were wearing tiny, tailored suits.

"Triplets," Marcus whispered, stepping back to give his boss space. "According to the driver I questioned, they are about four years old. Sir... Ms. Vance disappeared exactly five years ago."

The tablet slipped from Lucian's fingers. It hit the mahogany desk with a sharp clack.

Four years old. The math hit him like a freight train. Five years ago, he threw her out into the freezing rain. Nine months later...

Lucian gripped the edge of the desk, his knuckles turning pure white. His breathing turned ragged. He closed his eyes, and suddenly, the image of the little boy's jacket made perfect, agonizing sense.

She was pregnant when I kicked her out.

A sound escaped Lucian's throat a raw, dangerous sound that was half-growl, half-sob. The guilt, the rage, and the overwhelming possessiveness crashed into him all at once. He had three children. He was a father. And the woman he loved had been hiding them from him with another man.

"Sir?" Marcus asked cautiously. "The final merger meeting with Vance Design is in twenty minutes in the main boardroom. Do you want me to cancel it?"

Lucian opened his eyes. The shock was gone, replaced by a dark, terrifying fire. He straightened his tie, looking every inch the ruthless predator that owned the city.

"Cancel nothing," Lucian said, his voice dropping to a deadly, quiet rumble. "Tell security to lock down the executive floor the moment Ms. Vance arrives. Nobody gets in. And more importantly... nobody gets out."

Twenty Minutes Later...

Zara stepped out of the elevator onto the executive floor, flanked by Julian and Chloe. She wore a sharp black suit today, the color of a funeral. Because today, she was going to bury Lucian's company.

"The contracts are ready, darling," Julian murmured as they walked down the quiet hallway toward the boardroom. "Once he signs, we strip his tech division and absorb it into Vance Design. He won't even know what hit him until it's too late."

"Good," Zara said coldly.

She pushed open the heavy oak doors of the boardroom, expecting to see a table full of Sterling Enterprise lawyers.

Instead, the room was completely empty.

Except for one man.

Lucian was sitting at the head of the long table, leaning back in his leather chair. The room was unnervingly quiet.

Before Zara could even speak, the heavy oak doors behind her suddenly slammed shut. The loud CLICK of the electronic locks echoing through the room.

Julian grabbed the door handle, yanking it violently. "It's locked from the outside. The keycard reader is dead."

Zara's blood ran cold. She turned slowly to face the table.

Lucian stood up. He didn't look angry. He looked completely, terrifyingly calm. He picked up a small remote from the table and pressed a button. The electronic blinds on the glass walls instantly rolled down, plunging the room into absolute privacy.

"Hello, Zara," Lucian said softly, his dark eyes locking onto hers with a burning intensity that made her breath catch. "Or should I say... Mommy?"

His protective instincts were screaming, but he was also a businessman who had just witnessed the impossible."Zara, he handed over a three billion dollar tech division without a single legal fight," Julian said, his voice dropping so the staring employees couldn't hear. "And now this? This isn't a negotiation. It's a psychological siege. You cannot seriously be considering whatever he just demanded in that letter."Zara forced her face into a mask of pure, unbothered ice, even as her traitorous heart continued to hammer against her ribs."I am the CEO of this company, Julian," she said sharply, her tone leaving no room for argument. Marcus stared at the man who had just willingly ordered the financial execution of his own company."The entire greenhouse, sir?" Marcus repeated, his voice completely hollow. He had worked for Lucian Sterling for a decade, and he had never seen the icy, calculating CEO act entirely on raw, unhinged emotion."Every single stem," Lucian growled, his dark eyes fixed on the spot where Zara had been standing moments ago. He could still smell the faint, intoxicating trace of her vanilla and jasmine perfume lingering in the air. It was driving him insane. "If Julian Pierce bought her a dozen roses, I want a thousand. If he bought her orchids, I want the entire harvest imported from South America by tonight. Spare no expense, Marcus. Drain my personal accounts if you have to.""Yes, Mr. Sterling," Marcus swallowed hard, finally realizing that the war for Sterling Enterprises was over. The war for Zara's heart had just begun.Across the city, Zara stepped out of the private elevator and into

"The legal department just received an emergency injunction. Vance Design isn't waiting for the quarterly review. They have officially accelerated the hostile takeover of our tech division. They are moving to freeze our European assets by Friday."Lucian didn't flinch. He didn't even turn around. "Let them.""Sir, if they succeed, they will gut forty percent of our infrastructure.
