Chapter 12

Author: Northern Wolf
Everyone turned to look, only to see an old man walking in with a frown on his face.

It was Joshua! Christine immediately recognized him.

Joshua walked up to Kevin and said, "Mr. Young, as a favor to me, could you please let him off the hook today?"

Christine felt a wave of relief, her heart finally falling back in place. Joshua was famous throughout the region and had treated countless major figures.

Normally, if Joshua stepped in, few would dare ignore his request. After all, no one was immune to illness. Who knew when they might need his help? No one was willing to offend a doctor who could save their life unless absolutely necessary.

Since Joshua had gotten involved, Damian wouldn't have to lose his hand anymore. Nevertheless, once Christine got home today, she was determined to get David to find a way to kick Damian out as soon as possible. He caused far too much trouble.

For all she knew, he might one day drag the entire Spencer family down with him.

Frowning, Kevin looked at Joshua and said, "Normally, I would be more than happy to do you a favor, Dr. Sutton. But this punk here slapped me in the face! How am I supposed to maintain my dignity—and my family's as well—if I don't punish him today?"

Joshua's expression fell. Damian had slapped Kevin? This made the situation a whole lot harder to deal with.

Kevin had invited Joshua over to the hotel for a meal today. Partway through the meal, Kevin had excused himself to use the restroom. But when he hadn't returned after some time, Joshua decided to check on him.

When he spotted the crowd, he came over to take a peek out of curiosity, just in time to see Kevin ordering his bodyguards to attack Damian. Thus, he quickly called out to stop them. He had no idea what happened prior to this.

"Why are you people just standing here? Cripple him!" Kevin barked, and his bodyguards swiftly swarmed around Damian once more.

"Hold it, Mr. Young!" Joshua hastily cried out.

"What's the meaning of this, Dr. Sutton?" Kevin's expression had darkened immensely.

After taking a deep breath, Joshua looked at Kevin and said, "You can't lay a finger on him, Mr. Young."

What was that?

Leveling a hostile gaze at Joshua, Kevin questioned icily, "Did you not hear what I just said, Dr. Sutton?"

Meeting his gaze, Joshua said earnestly, "I owe Damian a favor, Mr. Young. If you insist on harming him today, then I apologize, but I won't be able to follow you back to Sengrove to check on your father."

Kevin raised his brow, his eyelids twitching. He was consumed with rage.

"Are you threatening me?"

Joshua shook his head and sighed, saying, "I would never, but I am a man of my word."

"Why, you!" Kevin snarled, though he could think of nothing else to say.

The veins along his forehead popped, and his face was twitching with fury. Clearly, he was doing his best to rein in his temper.

Even so, Joshua remained steadfast. He'd clearly made up his mind and refused to back down.

"Fine. I see how it is!" Kevin scoffed. Staring fixedly at Joshua, he spat out through gritted teeth, "I'll do you this favor, Dr. Sutton."

He came to Cloudcove and invited Joshua out for a meal because he wanted Joshua to go to Sengrove and check on his father, Horace Young. It'd be a huge problem if Joshua refused to do so because of Damian.

"Thank you, Mr. Young!" Joshua said gratefully as he heaved a sigh of relief.

Christine was overjoyed as well. Joshua was indeed a well-respected man. To think that a request from him was all it took to settle things.

However, the next words out of Kevin's mouth made Christine's heart sink once more.

With a mocking smirk, Kevin said, "However, Luxora Hotel cares a lot about its rules, and this punk has caused a scene here. I don't know if Ms. Jones is willing to do you a favor, Dr. Sutton."

Wren got the hint, of course. She pulled out her walkie-talkie and commanded, "Someone's causing trouble in Room 602. Bring some men over!"

Joshua's expression stiffened. "Ms. Jones…"

Alas, Wren simply turned away from him. Evidently, to her, Kevin's words held more weight than Joshua's.

Turning pale, Joshua gave Damian a look of helplessness.

Yesterday, Damian had saved Eli from the grasp of death. He'd not only stunned Joshua with his medical skills but also saved Joshua's reputation. For that, Joshua was both grateful and in awe of him. Since Damian was in a tough spot today, he was willing to lend a hand to repay Damian for his help yesterday.

Unfortunately, that devious Kevin simply got Wren to do his bidding instead. Joshua couldn't be of any further help now.

Soon, Greg Lewis, a man with a buzz cut, came bouldering in with a group of men in black. "Who dares cause trouble here, Ms. Jones?"

Wren pointed at Damian and said coldly, "He hit Mr. Young. You know what to do."

Greg was the head of security at Luxora Hotel. After he heard what Wren said, his eyes flashed with hostility. "Understood, Ms. Jones. Get him, men!"

The men in black began marching toward Damian with a menacing air.

Damian abruptly looked over at Wren and asked curtly, "Hang on. Are you sure you want to lay a hand on me?"

Sneering in derision, Wren ignored Damian. A country bumpkin didn't deserve a response from him.

Meanwhile, Kevin cackled before snarling at Damian, "What's the matter? Are you scared now? Well, it's too late! No one can save your ass today!"

Shaking his head, Damian said with an emotionless face, "I'll make a call."

Wren crossed her arms and scoffed contemptuously, remarking, "Oh? Are you trying to find someone to help you? Go right ahead. Let me see who in all of Cloudcove would dare to stand up for you!"

Disregarding Wren, Damian pulled up a number and made a call. "I'll do you a favor today. You can come over and handle this yourself!"

Once he finished speaking, he dropped the call and looked at Wren, saying, "Do you think Fergus Egan will have the audacity to stand up for me?"

Taken aback, Wren asked in disbelief, "You called Mr. Egan?"

"That's right. Got a problem with that?" Damian asked coolly.

Wren burst into laughter, laughing so hard that she nearly teared up. "Did you just say you called Mr. Egan and even say you're doing him a favor? Oh, please! Even if you're trying to act tough, can't you at least make it a bit more believable? I'm going to die of laughter here!"

Standing on the side, Christine bit her lip. She had turned pale with fury. Initially, she'd felt a flicker of hope when she saw Damian calmly making a phone call. Perhaps he did know someone who could reason with Wren.

But she didn't expect the subsequent words that came out of his mouth.

Fergus was the kingpin of Cloudcove's criminal underworld. He was one of the most powerful men in the city. Even Franklin wasn't important enough to be acquainted with Fergus, let alone Damian.

Did Damian think everyone here was a fool? How dare he claim to have called Fergus and even said he was doing Fergus a favor?

His shoddy acting only made him look like a clown!

However, outside the room, Fergus' knees buckled. He nearly fell to the floor. In just moments, his entire body had broken out in a cold sweat.

"Wendell, I was reckless earlier and wrongly accused you. I truly apologize. Do forgive me," Eli said earnestly.Though Wendell was still somewhat displeased, he knew there was a valid reason for what happened, so he didn't press the matter. Waving his hand dismissively, he said with a snort, "Forget it. I can't be bothered to argue with an old fool like you."Eli laughed heartily, knowing that meant Wendell had let it go."Come. Let's have some drinks."The three men proceeded to the living room and sat down. It was obvious that Wendell felt a mix of curiosity and respect toward Damian. After having some coffee, Wendell couldn't resist asking, "Your mastery of the art of geomancy is truly the best I've ever seen, Mr. Luther. You have my deepest respect. May I know who your mentor is?"Eli also raised a brow and glanced over at Damian. He didn't know the name of Damian's mysterious mentor, either. With an apologetic smile, Damian replied, "I'm sorry, but my mentor doesn't let me

Wendell saw a young man—Damian—standing calmly in front of the door with one hand behind his back. However, the situation inside the room had changed drastically.Despite being in a closed environment, a strange gust of chilly wind stirred up. The lights began to flicker eerily, sending shivers down the spine."You're using your own body as an array? That's… the destructive array! Just who are you?" Wendell cried out in terror.Damian didn't respond. Instead, he suddenly raised his hand to press it against Wendell's forehead. Frightened, Wendell wanted to move away, but the destructive array was holding him in place, sealing his ability to move.Meanwhile, Damian's palm hovered about an inch above Wendell's head. However, Wendell's face instantly turned black and contorted in pain."What are you trying to do? Who on earth are you?" Wendell shouted, his eyes filled with horror.Off to the side, Eli was completely dumbstruck. Was there a ghost in the room? Everything he saw right n

After hearing everything, Horace grew even more confused. "She's just a CEO of a small company?"A small fry like that wouldn't even catch Fergus' attention. Why would Kane, of all people, personally get involved?Something felt off.Horace mulled it over for a moment. Soon, a cold gleam appeared in his eyes. He already had a foolproof plan in mind.…At the break of dawn the next morning, Damian left the house and headed straight for the mountain ten miles away. After arriving at the summit, he didn't begin his exercise. Instead, he searched around."Oh? That woman isn't here today? Did she die of poisoning?"He shook his head when he saw that May was nowhere to be found. Then, he sat down cross-legged and began to meditate. Even after the sun had fully risen, there was still no sign of May. He had no choice but to head back down the mountain and return to the Spencer residence. After breakfast, Christine left the house bright and early to busy herself with the project. Damian

Sneering, Kane said, "Right now, the Young family wouldn't dare clash with us. They're terrified of giving themselves away. Since that's the case, we'll do the opposite of what they want."Fergus, send someone to dump the bodies on the Young family's doorstep. We can test their reaction. If we can provoke them into losing their cool and slipping up, all the better. And if they don't react, that just proves they're hiding something.""I'm on it!"Fergus immediately made the arrangements for some of his men to take the bodies to Sengrove.Damian shot Kane a look of approval. Kane was a sly fox, indeed. Now that they were almost certain Benedict was serving the Young family, they needed to start formulating their plan to get rid of him, the traitor who betrayed the Shadow Sanctum.Damian and Kane continued their discussion late into the night. Eventually, the men Fergus had sent to Sengrove returned.Fergus reported, "Sir, Mr. Swanson, the Young family retrieved the bodies without s

At first, Damian thought May had been poisoned by someone. Now, he realized she was the one playing with poison herself. Unfortunately, she wasn't an expert and ended up poisoning herself instead.Damian looked down at the corpses on the ground, his gaze piercing.…One hour later, Damian was seated in a VIP private dining room at Luxora Hotel with Kane and Fergus on both sides."That bastard Kevin actually dared to go after you, sir? I'll head over to Sengrove right this minute and kill him!" Fergus declared furiously. He immediately tried to march off, but Kane stopped him.Turning to Damian, Kane asked respectfully, "What do you plan to do now, sir?"Damian glanced at Kane. After rubbing his temples, he said calmly, "Kane, Alden left you in charge of the Shadow Sanctum all these years. This proves you're a wise and steady person. What do you think we should do about this?"Kane's eyes gleamed for a moment before he replied, "Kevin sent someone to assassinate you because he t

Damian grabbed a cab and headed straight to Sutton Clinic. However, he was informed that Joshua had left for Sengrove to treat Horace. He bought a few medicinal herbs from the club, but one was out of stock, for it was rarely used. The staff informed him that if he wanted to place an order, the stock would only arrive after three days. After mulling it over, he figured three days wasn't that long to wait. Sean's cancer was still in the early stages, so it wasn't life-threatening.It was just as well that Sean's birthday was next week. Damian decided to give Sean the medicine as a gift. After gathering his shopping, Damian was just about to leave when he heard a crisp voice saying, "I want to buy some medicine."May's graceful figure came into view, but as soon as she entered the clinic, she froze. Her eyes filled with a murderous air as she snarled, "It's you?""What a coincidence!" Damian chuckled. He hadn't expected May, the woman he met on the mountain the other morning, to
