Marvin
“Marvin, wake up.”
“Marvin, can you hear me?”
With pain in my head, I slowly opened my eyes
I focused on the sound of my mom’s voice, trying to fight my way to my blurry vision.
The first thing you usually heard in movies were common words such as, where am I or who am I, but I was not confused. I was aware of my surroundings, and only one thing went through my mind.
I am alive…I survived.
“Marvin, it’s time to wake up.”
“Mom, don’t force him.”
“Is uncle dead?”
“I’m not dead,” I yawned, stretching out my arms. I was supposed to be dead, but I wasn’t. The first thing I felt was my mom’s soft lips on top of my forehead. “I thought we’d lost you as well.” She cried.
Confused, I turned my head to look at my sister, Karina, and my nephew, Cisco. “What does she mean? Where is Tiago—“
“Tiago is fine.”
MarvinToday was Anya’s funeral, and it pained me to know that I couldn’t even be there. She was a good person with a good heart and had a long life ahead of her.A part of me felt guilty for obeying my dad’s wishes, but more so for planning on seeing not only Daniel Stanfield but also Elena today.“I thought I told you to stay out of trouble.”I laughed at the familiar voice and raised my hand to greet Daniel. He had a bouquet in his hands and wore his rare everyday clothes.Seeing him in something other than a uniform was refreshing for a change. “How can I stay out of trouble if others won’t let me?”Daniel chuckled as he placed the flowers on the nightstand. “That’s true.”“So I heard you called for me.” He spoke, sitting down. “Although you were my favorite inmate, I hope you know I’m risking a lot by just coming here.&rdquo
ElenaHours slipped into days, and I had yet to receive a phone call from Panther. It was the only thing keeping me awake, but nothing had happened. Money didn’t grow from a tree, so despite everything, I was back at work.Exhausted, I leaned my head against the bar as I took in the silence of the empty space. Personally, I thought opening the cocktail bar in the morning didn’t even make sense, but it was whatever. Not my business, not my rules.“You’re haunting away the customers.” Rona tapped my shoulder. I raised my head with a lazy expression in my eyes. “Customers?” I yawned. “It’s morning!”“My god.” Rona giggled. “It’s good to see you’re slowly getting your personality back.”“Right,” I mumbled. That was probably because this was the only time of the day where I did not have to be serious. My dad and Alex were
Elena“Please, sit.”Nervously, I fumbled the keys in my hands and followed Marvin’s instructions as I sat down on a chair near the hospital bed. I took a deep breath and raised my head to look at him. Marvin had a gentle smile on his face, and by the looks of it, he seemed to be doing just fine.He wasn’t afraid of eye contact and stared at me as if I was obligated to lead the conversation. What would you say to someone who had taken a bullet for you? What was there to say?I was able to talk to Panther, so why wasn’t I able to talk to Marvin? There were so many names to call him, but there was only one strange thing about this situation. I wasn’t scared. The fear came from not knowing what he would say, but I wasn’t afraid of him. If anything, I felt at ease. “So.” I began. “I’m sorry about Anya&mdas
Marvin—Elena: Good luck♥️Marvin: For?Elena: You’re going home today!Marvin: Already am.Elena: Oh?Elena: Why didn’t you tell me!Elena: 😡😩😢😣—I guess we were back at the emojis.“Who’s blowing up your phone like that? Is the job done?”Victor forced his head over my shoulder, but before he could see anything, I locked my phone. “It’s nothing,” I spoke, annoyed. Any other day I would’ve avoided him, but for now, I was still bound to a wheelchair. It had been two weeks since I’d seen Elena, and other than harassing me with thousandth text messages, she had often visited me at the hospital to tak
Elena“Flower delivery for Elena Torres?”A young delivery man entered the bar with a bouquet in his hands. Rona and I stared at each other at the same time before we turned our heads to the bouquet. “F-for me?”The man read the card. “Elena Torres?” He said. I gave him a nod and grabbed the flowers from his hands. Why would I receive flowers at this time of the day?“Well, come on, read it!” Rona nearly jumped in excitement as the man had left the bar. I grabbed the small card attached to it and read the message.‘Thank you for taking care of me, I appreciate, and I can’t thank you enough -Marvin.’I read the message out loud and moved my finger to the diamond ring attached to it. “Wow,” Rona gasped. “And you’re telling me he’s not interested in you? Give it here!“She grabbed the ring and held it in the air. With sq
MarvinYou killed Anya. You’re a killer. One day had passed, but those words were on repeat, and I couldn’t get them out of my head. I was supposed to be angry, but I couldn’t. I couldn’t blame Tiago for reacting the way he did because I knew it was my fault.“Are you still not moving on from yesterday?”It was never my intention to harm Anya in any way, and I felt just as awful. “This is all because you baby him too much.” Panther stated as we made our way to the living room. “Ever since we were young, you’ve always let him boss you around—and this is what you’ve created.”“I created?” I stopped in my steps and turned around to face Panther, seconds away from choking him. The downside of having your friend work for you was them thinking they could get away with every little thing.“You know how unfair Mario has been, and
Elena“Here you go, dad!” I placed a cup of coffee on his desk. “Watch out. It’s hot.”My dad turned on his lamp and closed his laptop to face me. He was still crazy, but he looked a lot better than he did two weeks ago. “You’re in a good mood.” He smiled. “Why are you all dressed up? Aren’t you going to bed?”I spun around to show him my outfit and made a pose. “I’m going out with Rona, don’t wait up for me.”He shrugged and took a sip from his coffee. “You deserve to have fun.” He spoke. It took a lot to gain back his trust, but I had somehow managed to do it. The poor man thought I had cut off all contact with Marvin, and I did not feel bad for lying to him.I wasn’t the issue, and I didn’t do anything wrong, dad and Alex did.“You know, Victoria misses you.” My dad mentioned her name. Sin
Elena“I don’t know. You’re the one who invited me.” Marvin leaned back. “So you can lead the conversation. What do you want to talk about?”What did I want to talk about?I knew a few subjects, but it wasn’t like I could just jump into the questions. I was known to make mistakes, and the alcohol in my system added to my tricky mouth.“In that case, I want to know why you were in prison.” I decided. “No lies, no excuses—just the truth.”The playful look on Marvin’s face had quickly changed to a serious expression. Unfortunately for him, we were long past the phase of asking each other about our favorite colors. “It seems like it has been on your mind for a while, hasn’t it?” Marvin spoke.I turned my head, knowing I would only pity him if I would look into his eyes. “It has. I need to know who I’m hanging out
